My little experiment HPS vs CFL-AK47

Ok my experimant

I have 9 X ak47 under a 600w cooled HPS in a purpose built room

In another room i have 1 solo (will be joined by another any day) under a my CFL hood, and plenty of CFL's to surround it as it grows

Lets see what happens, so far with the cheap CFL hood and surrounding lights, i have grown 2 sativas and yielded about 2oz per plant

ALL the 10 seedlings are 3 days old ( the one that will be joining the CFL party lol, is germinated and getting potted tomorrow)

So lets see what happens, btw the CFL one is looking better, as its my first time with HPS and the 9 are a little stretched, just filled the pots today to sort the stretching and lowered my light

To compare them properly you should veg them all under the cfl's and only seperate them when they're all ready to flower. HPS is not optimal for flower as you know so the comparison will be totally flawed and unfair from day one.

Plus dude.... Get that HPs way way down it's crazy high off the plants. No more than 18" and you should be able to get less than half that after they get a little stronger. You will have the worst HPS grow ever if you keep it the way it is now.

I'm hoping you meant to say HPS is not optimal for VEG.....:joint:

But he's right about the light height, if you have it aircooled why is it so far away?! I wish mine was air cooled so I could drop it down even further...I mean heats what you're worried about!

The pic of the HPS hood was pictured the day they broke the soil its alot lower now, i wanted to veg them all under my CFL hoods, but another party disagreed, so this is how its got to be

Hey OregoMeds thanks to your advice all my 9 seedlings have heat stress i went down to 18 inch, they will recover as i noticed what was happening and sought advice, the hood is now 4 ft away until they are strong enough to handle the heat, no probs but please look at the pictures before you give advice

according to my findings, 3 feet is the proper distance from seedlings

your study is slightly flawed. CFL's are of course going to veg better. they have the proper light spectrum.

to have a scientific experiment, you should have expected outcomes defined.

Its not really an experiment, i built a room to house 9 under HPS & had 2 seedlings left over, so decided to grow a couple in my old CFL room with the same CFL coverage that has yielded me nearly 4oz from my first and second grow (2 plants)

Im not a scientist im just getting stoned for free and fuking about

Baz Im down to follow this...Very good to see u are able to do an hps grow as well.
LOL CFL vs HPS again huh...
Either way hope u have an awesome grow..
This should be interesting...But like already suggested not a fair competition at all too many facter's involved..
LumensXWattage output cant really even be compared from the 2 light sources.. When it comes to spectrum HPS shall crush during flower...Im sure the cfl's will veg the cfl plant faster tho..
Looking forward to this.

Yea i know it looks like a 1 horse race but alot of people (and i mean alot) were telling me these cheap old cfl's would get me nowhere, i have 20 of them and used them the best way i could, and i got just short of 4oz from 2 bagseed sativas (my first & second grow) so we will see, does HPS usualy yeild slightly under 2oz per plant idk, im totally new to it. Thats why im glad i germinated the 2 spare seeds and kept my CFL room and gheto setup, i was gonna give that little room back to my gf but glad i didn't :bigjoint:

Bro I once yielded close to 2 ounces from 1 plant from 1 50 watt hps side be side of course to the equivelant amount of cfl's...So my experiment was also flawed...
Actually tho in my experiment under the one 50 watt hps...My highest wieghing dried cola was 22 grams from one 50 watt hpas..
Think the cfl colas came in some where around 6-8 grams a piece..
I dunno nice experiment tho..Im sure u will be happy with the new addition..
Think of all the lights ur not gonna have to move around bro.

Man ur ma fuckin hero!

This went under my radar too , but iv found it now so will be checkin back muchose.

looking forqard to my experiment 400w hps + 8 fluoros vs the sun and his mum!

i really gotta get myself a couple cfls tho man , im missing out

i know your not a scientist. i wasnt bein a dick.

if your gonna conduct an experiment though...why not do it right? you will come up with some good info for us...

People are forgetting this is CFL vs. HPS, NOT CFL vs. HID.

Of course it won't be a 'fair' test as plants veg better under MH.

What this will answer is how much does a really good start on a plant (as in great veg growth) but low end light compared to a poor start with amazing finish (hps during flower). I'm quite curious to be honest....

I'm thinking the cfls will be huge plants with smaller nugs, while the HPS ones will be slightly stunted with big fat nugs!

Yea Nice response I like it. I had to retire my M/H Lmao because simply it was growing "vegging"them way to fast and huge for my grow haha..Had to put and keep my moms under cfl's to tame them.
I think cfl's do a great job vegging. Not to be confused with hid in the least. But they are practical for people wanting to grow short stocky plants in a stealth grow before introducing to HPS for flower..

Im sure Baz is going to be completely thrilled about the less fluffy and airy buds he gets from hps in flower.. Id never put down a person that grows cfl I grew this way for a long time and had plenty of great grows. But the quality and density of the buds end product with hps is so much greater...
I think his 600 is gonna produce some insane yields and an insane jungle he gonna have a hard time taming myself.

Ok update

Now the heat stress issues with the HPS have been fixed, both The CFL & HPS grows, are exactly the same hight, same amount of leaves 2 nodes so far and 3rd on the way, both have roughly the same distance between nodes (still small tho)

The only diference i can see is the HPS seedlings have bigger leaves

I will be putting some pics up over the weekend as i have a real crap camera at my disposall and really good one (my dads)

So i'd rather throw some quality pics up rather than the blured ones from the crap cammera, you can prob see what pics were taken with the crap cammera in my previous posts, so clearer pics are worth the wait
