Hey guys...

I'm currently growing El Nino and Sweet Tooth. My ladies are on day 18 from seed. The first pic shows all of them... the front row is El Nino and the back row is Sweet Tooth. The second pic is a close-up of the El Nino. The third is a close-up of Sweet Tooth. I'll post new pics in a week.

OK everyone, here's the updated photos of my latest crop :-D So far everything is looking great. I'm really impressed with the Sweet Tooth and El Nino. They've both exhibited fantastic growth, very short spacing between nodes, and quite a lot of branching. The Big Bang is doing well also, but so far the Sweet Tooth and El Nino are just looking better to me. Of course that could all change as time goes on. Big Bang is supposed to be an excellent producer, so we'll have to measure the final success on the yield.

You'll notice that one grouping of plants is larger than the other. The smaller plants were started one week after the first group. The first grouping was started 24 days ago. The last 6 pictures show close-ups of the three strains. The first shot is the profile, and the second shot is directly overhead. From left to right its Sweet Tooth, Big Bang, and El Nino.

Questions and comments are very welcome, as always :-D

Yeah I love Sweet Tooth. I was in Amsterdam back in 1998 when Sweet Tooth won the Bio Cup at the Cannabis Cup, and I've been hooked on it ever since.

Those grow-bags are 3gal, and are the permanent home for my ladies. I start my seedlings off in 1/2gal containers and transplant into the 3gal grow-bags at the end of week 2. I've found that 3gal containers are the perfect size to carry out a 6 week veg cycle and the entire flowering cycle. I used to use 5gal containers, and I still would if I veg'd them for more than 6 weeks. Using 5gal containers, I go through soil, nutes, and water almost twice as fast as with the 3gal bags. So, this way I save money and make efficient use of all my available grow space.

Saw a few of your posts and decided to check out your journal.

You really prefer the 3gal grow bags to 5gal buckets? Do you notice any difference in yield?

What's your mix?

What nute line?

Looks like a good setup you've got here, those are some healthy girls! I'll be watching :)

I'm also curious as to what nutes and soil. I used FoxFarm nutes and soil for this first grow and have been pretty pleased, but I'm looking for nutes that are a little more tuned for one specific plant, ifyaknowwhatImean ;-)

A friend of mine turned me onto the 3gal containers a few crops ago. Prior to that I used 5gal containers and was quite satisfied with them. I did a side-by-side comparison and here's how it went down:

I had a stable Sweet Tooth mother plant that I had been cloning off of for about a year. For my experiment, I took two nearly identical clones and rooted them in Jiffy Pots (peat pellets that expand into little pots when you soak them in water). After taking root and growing under florescent tubes on a 24/0 schedule for two weeks, I transplanted one of them into a 5gal container, and the other into a 3gal container. On an 18/6 lighting schedule, they were fed and watered exactly the same amounts at exactly the same time for a period of four weeks. At the end of the four weeks, the plant in the 5gal container was exactly 3" taller than the plant in the 3gal container. It also had a lateral span approximately 2" wider than the plant in the 3gal container. I cut the light back to 12/12 and began the flowering phase which continued for exactly 8 weeks (56 days). As with the vegetative phase, the nutrient and water amounts and schedule remained identical for both plants for the duration. The plant in the 5gal container grew a little faster than the one in the 3gal container for the first 3 weeks. But after that, the 3gal plant caught up and they remained nearly identical in appearance all the way to the finish line. My final measurements revealed the 5gal plant to be 2 1/2" taller and 3 1/2" wider than the 3gal plant. I then plucked all the big fan leaves from both plants and, keeping each plant whole, hung them upside down to dry. After spending one week in my dry room, both plants were fulled trimmed and manicured. The buds were then cured for a period of two weeks using the paper & plastic bag method. After the two week cure, I weighed the finished buds of each plant separately. The 5gal plant produced 58.4g and the 3gal plant produced 51.5g, a difference of 6.9g (<1/4oz.)

Given that the 5gal plant required 67% more soil and nutrients than the 3gal plant, I determined that the additional 6.9g of finished bud did not justify the extra cost of maintaining the larger container. Since then, I've been a believer of the 3gal container. I prefer using grow-bags over regular buckets because they are ultra lightweight and ridiculously cheap (they only cost $0.15/each).

As my grow medium, I use FoxFarms Ocean Forest straight out of the bag with nothing else added. I know a lot of people who use Ocean Forest like supplementing it with Perlite or Light Warrior, but I've never had any problems with it as-is and have not found it to be necessary. As for nutrients, I primarily stick with the FoxFarms product line. For my vegetative phase, I use GrowBig and BigBloom supplemented with SuperThrive and Hygrozyme. For my flowering phase, I use TigerBloom and BigBloom supplemented with Hygrozyme, along with Open Sesame, Beastie Bloomz, and Cha Ching. I do a flush with RO water supplemented with Clearex one week before I begin the 12/12 light cycle, and once again 2 weeks prior to harvest.

Sounds good, I tried the grow bags once, wasn't too impressed, I noticed a dramatic increase in yield after the switch from 3 gal pots to 5 gallon buckets. They seemed overall more happy to have more root room... I use Advanced nutes.

I'll be watching, hope everything goes well for you.

Your avatar looks like Jeff Tek, I'm a facebook friend of his... You aren't him are you?

I wantto getthese sweet toothe bangon but as i have always worked form clones up until now i could do with some seed tips

I just started from seed for the first time in a long time. I forgot how long it takes them to become established. Clones are soooo much faster from cutting to flower.

I documented everything in my journal... I just took the first set of clones, and everythings maturing and I'm about to start the bloom.

Link's in the sig.

So I went out of town for a few days... I know a bunch of you have tried getting in touch, but I was up in the Catskills without net access, so sorry :-D

Anyway, first thing I did was run down to check on my ladies and... well GODDAAMM they got big in the short time I was gone. My whole basement stinks like a ganja factory despite my big-ass carbon filter. Oh well... Guess the neighborhood is gonna stink like herb from now on :-D

I'm gonna go take some new pics and post them in a few, so stay tuned! And anyone who is waiting for a response from me in PM... hang in there, i'm going through emails and shit now so I'll be responding in the next few hours.
