These tubs have Golden Teachers.

Went down this morning and I had a lot more mushrooms, but some other stuff growing has me concerned.

These are my most current pics taken about an hour ago.

Now when I google Mycelium and images, I do see some images similar to the white areas that are concerning to me. But this black area is concerning me most, since my area is in the basement, might it be black mold? The holes in the monotub are covered with breathable tape, however, I have opened them several times.

I've also noticed the substrate has contracted away from the walls of the tub a bit. It's damp....wondering if that's because of the Mycelium growing in the substrate?

Any constructive advice or knowledge would be appreciated.

My first post showing past couple of days are here:

Lots of shrooms....I picked them all but in the upper left/middle is some black stuff.....can't tell if that's normal or black mold. In the lower right is some white. Based on pics I've googled of Mycelium, this could be normal.

A close up of the white stuff.

I poked on it with my alcohol washed finger......and this clear liquid came out.

My second tub has the white stuff, no black stuff.

Slightly blurry pic of the 2nd tubs white stuff.

Any positive criticism and advice would be welcome.

Thank you in advance. 8-)8-)8-)8-)8-)

Did your caps drop spores? The black could be that, you should pick right before they open, unless you are making prints.

YES, in that corner a whole bunch opened......should I just leave it? Thanks so much for taking the time to reply.

I've started more spawning bags.......that'll take awhile. So I'm going to let these two tubs keep going until they just fail......my mushrooms don't get that big......

What will the spores do? Wouldn't they grow too? Yes, I bet you're right.....

I had some cobweb mold and am trying this technique in the link below. Spraying with hydrogen peroxide.

First time......so......experimentation is good no?

I'mma gunna study up on how to make spore prints........

Thanks again for responding.:p:p:p

Am watching this one video where a guy uses 60% horse manure 20% coir 15% vermiculite 5% gypsum. How does one sterilize this????

He also has the filters on the monotub holes.....I can't tell if they are flattened poly fill or a special filter?

Any input?

Looks like cobweb mold. Nast stuff. It will reduce your fruit to mush. Static air flow, a little too wet. Salt should hold the stuff at bay. It rarely goes into your substrate.

Thanks for the input Canndo. I appreciate your effort in the response. SALT...hmm, haven't tried that. YES it is nasty stuff. I spray hydrogen peroxide on it. But I'll try salt.

I switched from breathable tape for the holes to polyester batting. Maybe I'll put a fan in there to encourage more airflow. I've since enclosed the shelving with cheap shower curtains. Maybe that's slowing down airflow...hmmmm.

I ran across this particular article online......This guy proposed 'encasing.' I've mixed up a batch and ave put it on. I'm getting larger mushrooms but the middle, mehhhh, not so much.

I've learned a lot from this first time. Got some more bags inoculating, and will alter a few methods.

Here's the link to his article. Pretty good read actually.

Thanks again and have a great week !

When you step at peace with contamination you will succeed. You cannot beat it. You live with it. You allow the contamination God's their due. You adjust ph, moisture. Air flow and co2 to favor your target species and disfavor everything else.

Then you watch. Eventually everything will attain the ph green mold will like. The trick is to sense that, surrender what ever you have growing and cut your losses.

You will feel it. And there is a secret. Blue and red LEDs. Under that combination you can tell at a glance, even when it is not apparent in white light, if contains are starting.

Fruiting mycelium . At least the ones I've experienced, glow differently than everything else.
