My first indoor grow, should I cut fan leaves?

hello everybody, I am a total rookie and I have been growing with cfl's for about two months now. my veg went great (thanks to a bunch of you who took the time to explain and teach me!) I have done a bunch of reading and I was torn about cutting fan leaves or not. well I decided to cut them off. i have been flowering for 12 days now and have very many bud sites and the leaves were in the way. I was using CFL's to flower(2700k) and i don't think i was using enough. my plants were looking deprived. maybe it was shock maybe not. on the 9th day of flowering I installed an LED light. since then my plants have looked great. People were right though, LED's do not penetrate the leaves well. So I cut em off!(not all, but a bunch) I can now see very bright light all the way to the dirt. and yes, i grow in dirt. And I also use nutes. My questions are:

1. what do people think of cutting the fan leaves once the plants starts to bud?
providing I am feeding the nutes.

2. will my CO2 be less effective with less fan leaves?

3. Attached is photos of my leaves, can someone please tell me why the tips are curled and why so flat? and yes, they looked this way before i cut them off. they looked worse before I put the LED light on. I am hoping they look like this due to insufficent lumens.

Thank you all for reading my very long message!

I'm curious about this as well. I could use to trim some fan leaves, certainly not all but some. 26 days in to flowering, I'll be watching this for ideas.

As for the leaf, I too have some like that, I believe it has to do with ventilation, as in not enough air flow in your room. Or lack of nutrients in the soil due to high PH or under feeding.

I have no excuse, I know I need a 400 CFM fan to exhaust the air out of my room instead I leave the grow room door open w/ two floor fans, one out and one in, but when I hit the plants with the nutes they straighten right out.

What's your grow setup like, and what are your temps and RH? Might shed some light on the curl...

I never cut off fan leaves, they act as solar panels and absorb the light through photosynthesis...the more leaves the more light it is able to absorb!!!

my setup is also not vented well. just a fan blowing into a grow box with the door open. I have only given them nutes once and they got better looking after that. I am in a box 36" x 36" x 52" and the area is very dry and about 70-73F inside the box (70 at the dirt, 73 at the colla's) I think you're on to something we sound to hve similar setups and similar issues...mmm I'll start with a more agressive nute feed, especially since I cut the fan leaves.

some people say the only reason a plant needs fan leaves for photosynthesis to provide nutrients. I'm already doing that...

and some people believe they need them to provide things we can't... no offense Bob but I am still on the fence on this one... I did leave one plant of the exact strain in the same cycle and did not cut a single leaf as a control. I guess I will find out on a month or so..

I didn't intend to upset you gean pool. I didn't think what I was doing was "brutal torture". in fact my test was leaving one untouched, that is far from brutal IMO. and as for my info I got all of it here from reading, so it goes to show some people are correct and some arn't and some just speak a bunch of crap. how am I to know who is correct. so I try things with my plants. You may feel they are Brutal torture tests but I'm sure others would agree with me.... enjoy your smoke

I would love to see the results of your test stoney...and I really hate it when people start putting out dumb advice! It's fuckin' ridiculous! Leaves also help the plant to absorb Co2, btw...GL!

SLB I was afraid I screwed it up for the CO2 but it was to late and I figured oh well, i'm in deep now. I'll see what happens. this is my very first grow and I am only using bag seed but I need to have a very short learning curve because I have a few great looking blueberries from homegrown-fantaseeds in veg right now. I understand genetics is everything but I should know soon if I did a horrible thing or not. Thanks for your advice, I will try to keep the thread with some updates along the way......

unfortunately the right to think is earned. you need to understand what u are doing and u dont. there have been so many people who have tried this stuff with there plants YOUR NOT ORIGINAL!! check there research! any one can tortue a plant but a true knowledge seeker will see if there was another person before them and go from there you did none of that. and bob i am on my way to a masters in advanced horticulture fron the university of california...what u got a book from the Internet? oh yea because and you have to steal bob Marley because you cant think of your own name original.. and you are a poser a fraud and i hope to meat u some day

gean mother fucked pool ps ill be in sf this week talking at an patient seminar because im smart enough to say some thing and the people off line know that
Does bashing on people and personally attacking users online make you feel better about your pathetic life! I'm not about to turn this into an "I know more than you!" argument...Your extremely childish and probably lacking self-esteem...and BTW, he has the right to do whatever he wants, and if he chooses to learn from his own mistakes, rather than taking advice from some one like you online, then he is smart enough to know that the best way to learn is from trial and error...so fuck off and go wave your up-coming master's degree in someone who cares face...fucking pathetic...

Alot of people assume that because someone is speaking that they are able to think. Get a life dude.

P.S. Dont cut fan leaves. I think the plants like them:)

chill out pool, you haven't provided any useful information at all on this thread so I will just ignore anything else you have to say..

Smokeslikebob, I'm sorry you got drug in the pool like that.... I was just trying to learn from what you were telling me. thanks again!!

rombomb420 and assasinofyouth420 Thank you very much for your advise I will not cut them again. I was just following advise from indoormarijuanaseeds.com reposted by TillthedayiDIE420. and I did agree with the pool boy about the whole energy thing. I just figured if people(myself included) can cut the top off to get 4 collas why can't I cut a few leaves. Experts do say cutting the top off does damage the plant and it will never reach full maturity. I thought since I already damaged the plant be cutting off the top I wouldn't hurt it anymore by trimming the leaves... live and learn.. and I have learned.

If anyone is interested here are a few pics of my plants (blueberry vegging for 23 days) and the butchered bagseed plants under the LED light. one bud is under a 2700k CFL to see which is better. I also have a few clones of the blueberry that I just began LST on.

Thanks again for your opinions on the matter!!

yea, I topped em' about a week before flowering. and my friend started a blueberry from the same pack of seeds and his looks funny like that to. He also mentioned genetics. I won't care at all if it makes sticky buds!

One more question: I have always seen people spray thier plants with water, I also do the same just because everybody else I know does. Is this good/bad/or it doesn't mater?
