400 watt HPS for flowering and a 400 watt MH for Veg. (is 400 too much for the Veg.? If it is could I just hang the light higher to correct?)

Yes ventilation is one of the last things I'm working out.... I'd like to cool the exhaust before I port it out of the house... I'm still researching different options for this.

Thanks for the info on the water level. That's pretty much what I thought.... but with some of the pictures I've seen I just wasn't sure. :D
400w for veg works perfect for a closet. I'm not using ventilation either.:peace:

To lcarify, "As cloes as you can" for me was around 15Inch, If you have good ventalation and really good air movement you may sqeeze anouther couple of inches in.

Awesome blunted, I was hoping i wouldn't have to do much for ventilation. I'm running 400 watt MH/HPS (its switchable) as well :-) Or i will be when my bulbs get here. They broke during freight :-/

I have a question conserning color tempataure. Supposively the bulbs i'll be recieving are Eiko 4k, both of em. Are those worth a crap? I may end up getting a better bulb for flowering a the very least

Here's a chart you can check out.

Colour Temperature Chart

Don't know about those lights. For veg I use a 6500k light. Around 3500k for flower. I use shitty bulbs for my veg. (I get them for free) But I will spend top $$$ on my 1000w for flowering.

Here are some new pics. I see alil dryness in a few of the leaves and some light yellowing close to the veins, but this might be me being alil over loving... idk. The new 400 watt's in, running a 4000 kelvin MH untill I can pick up a 5500-6500. The temp has gone up a little bit... from 77 to around 83 (40% humidity) during the day at 15" hood to tops of plants. I'll have to wait and see how low the temp will be at night.

Peace

LoL "foils for baking not growing" roger, thx email & mr. green Tin foils down. Working on the white prolly later tonight. I got some ceiling paint (flat white). Noted on the heat/HID problem. I was thinking cool tube but my HPS bulb is like 3 inches diameter. Yeah I got the ballast and light today, heh. On a higher note, they're doing well =). Did there res change, and using 1/4 str nutes for this week. Changing to 1/2, next then full probably. Thats saying everything goes fine till then =P Pics later tonight, so stay tunes hehe.
to the loacal hydro store or order online i batch of mylar. it pretty cheap. and is the best so i have read

Hmmm looks like one of my root clinging to an irrigation hose and is in the process of rotting off... Should I be worried?

Man its been along time since i've updated on these girls. They seem to be doing well. I just started flowering, these pics are taken 2 days into flowering. Only problem i see is that i'm getting yellow top growth... not like nute burn but more like iron def (from what ive seen in pics). This happened the day after I switched to HPS and 12/12 lightning... was on 24/0. Maybe that shocked the photo on em and turned them yellow. They are getting better tho, as u can see its not extremely noticeable from the pics (lights were off, used cams flash so the color would be closer to what it should be).

I still haven't purchased a TDS/EC meter yet lol :-|. For the most part ive just watched the PH, water level, Temps (res and air). When the water level goes down i just make sure the PH is the same. If the PH rises and the water level goes down it tells me that the plant eating more and drinking less... so I add FULL str nutes to PHed RO water. I just top off with 1/2 str nutes solution and flush every week. So far this has worked pretty well.

The other problem I 've had is with Water temp, though its never gone up above 75... I usually keep it at between 60 and 70. But I hate putting water jugs in there all the time. Though i found a possible solution... yall tell me what you think.

Texas Hydroponics :: Environmental Control :: Reservoir & Aquarium Chillers :: Ice Probe Reservoir Chiller

I think this thing' will help me take my mind off water temps considering i'm using a 10 gallon res

But anyway, wanted to give yall an update and some input if your looking for a reasonable res chiller... I think i've seen one cheaper at an a Marine aquarium place btw.

Peace

they are looking fine to me - i can not see any noticeable yellowing but switching lights -- especially going to more intense lights can cause older growth to yellow - but new growth should be used to it and be green again.

looking good! :leaf:

Well I am still trying to figger out how you are getting water to em from the underside of the lid. Pardon my cornfusion. Thanks.

Well what i did, and I'll be the first to say that I'm no expert. But I used a Water pump and ran hoses to all my plants thru the net pots from the inside of my res. I've also heard of people using a wick of some sorts. I've stopped using the pump since there are plenty of roots now. I just make sure the waters cold and PH and water lvls. But yeah, water levels i keep an inch or two under the net pots (not touching). Hope this helps you out.

Well why put em under the lid? Looks like it be easier to run the hoses on top. You in this for the money or the show? Yall have contests and stuff?

Thanks man! Yeah the yellowing is gone and was almost completely gone when I took the pics. At first I thought it was a def... maybe Iron or PH went completely haywire or something. I Think that's what most noob growers thoughts are at first. Now I think it was a photosynthesis thing, cause it happened on day one of 12/12. But they didn't look unhealthy so i didn't stress it. Then sure enough it was gone that same day... as soon as they got a good 2 or 3 hours of light. Either way its gone and i'm happy :blsmoke:

Well when I designed my setup in my head. I never seen a DWC. I personally have only grown in dirt until now. But my reasoning behind putting the irrigation inside was for light purposes ( i didnt want any light getting to the water) There are better ways of doing this i'm sure (like a drip irrigation with black hoses). But my way worked so I went with it. No i'm in this for my own personal smoke for a lot less $$ and to share my findings and listen to other peoples testimonies for information. I Think they do have contests here (for best grow journals etc.)

I'd say it depends on your water source. You should use plain PHed water for 4 weeks, or when plants have about 4 or 5 set of leaves. Then move up gradually from 1/4 str for a week, 1/2 str the next, then if every thing's going fine move to full str. If you use RO water (which will have less PPM from the tap) you may be able to introduce nutes a LITTLE earlier. If it's one thing I've learned, is that it's really easy to over do nutrients.

I personally use RO water, and I over nuted at first, but since it was using RO water it was more forgiving for whatever reason... Probably cause of the low PPM before i added nutes.

Hope this helps
