I ordered an ice bong and another small glass piece off of Grasscity.com back on July 27. I received an email saying that I would receive an email once my item was shipped. Well last Thursday, 1 1/2 weeks later, I emailed them asking about my order. I received a response two days later saying one of my items is a Magic Glass item, which is specially made when it is ordered. Now get this...

In the email, it said that the item would arrive in their warehouse a week after ordering. Well by the time I emailed them, it had already been 1 1/2 weeks. I never emailed them back saying this since they're customer service decided to automatically consider my ticket closed. It is now over two weeks later and still no updates. I'm growing a bit annoyed with Grasscity and unless I hear from them soon, I'll be giving them a really bad review.

As for my Sharpstone grinder and kief press... I'm still waiting on these too! WTF?!? I received an email from the eBay seller last Tuesday saying the item was shipped and gave me a USPS tracking number. Now I know USPS' Track & Confirm is a worthless piece of shit which doesn't too much TRACKING, but in all my experience, at the status is updated from point to point. Since I received the tracking number, the status has remained at "Electronic Shipping Info Received." In my experience, it usually is only on this status for one day. So I emailed the seller just a short while ago, let's see what he says. I really hope the item is shipped and close to being here.

So the waiting game continues...
Two major developments... looks like the lil gremlins or whomever was testing me thinks I've waited long enough.

Alright, so with the grinder and pollen press, two nights ago, I sent an email to the eBay seller (just in case anyone is curious, the vendor's name is hippiekid23) asking if he sent out my package. He hasn't responded yet, BUT... I checked USPS' track & confirm and the status has FINALLY changed and says the order has been processed. One week after the eBay seller said he would ship the item. Completely unacceptable. But hey, at least it's on it's way.

As for my grasscity order... I GOT THE SHIPPING CONFIRMATION EMAIL THIS MORNING! WOOOO HOOOOOO!!! No mention of how long it'll take, but I think it's coming from Amsterdam, so I imagine at least a week or two. With their standard shipping, there is no tracking, so I guess we'll see how long it takes.

Paranoid, hope this is some reassurance that your item will be on it's way soon.

Great start to a gloomy day! Looking forward to going home after work today to do some weighing and jarring. Check back tonight for the dry weight count for Lois Lane and Jean Grey.

Well, Jean Grey and Lois Lane were weighed and jarred up tonight... and it was a bit disappointing.

The end dry weight for Jean Grey was approximately 1 oz. while Lois Lane was about 4/5 oz. The buds seem really loose compared to some of the stuff I've bought... not those tight nugs. Does that come with curing?

My scale was a bit weird... you could put a nug a little larger than a quarter (the coin) and it would read 0.0 oz on the scale. There's a pic of that below. Any thoughts?

Also, I'm not sure if I over-dried the buds. What should the text of the buds be?

But in the end, I'm still just happy it turned out as well as it did. I'm just going to have to pick up my game for the second grow. :weed:

Pics
1. Jean Grey after drying

2. Jean Grey after clipped and divided into tenth of an ounce. The piles actually look a lot bigger than in the pic, you can't really see the depth of these piles.

3. Heres a nug that I was talking about earlier... check it out, it's 0.0 oz. WTF?

4. Lois Lane after drying.

5. Lois Lane after clipped, each pile a tenth of an ounce.

6. This bud of LL was extremely tight, and this small amount, the size of a lighter was a tenth of an oz.

7. Jarred up... yeah, the jars are just a tad big. Should I go get some smaller ones?

8. Clippings all divided. The big bags are the fan leaves, the small bags are the shake. Threw these bags in the freezer. Will be making special brownies as soon as I get my grinder.

9. The jars are in my wine fridge, set t0 55 degrees. I blocked the glass so no light gets in.

Weird on the scale. Is that reading ounces. There is no way that nug doesn't weigh at least .3 of a gram. No way.

I only got 2+ ounces from my last grow of 4 plants.

The density doesn't really change with a cure.

The texture should be like when you buy it. Not squishy from being moist, but not so that it crumbles to dust when you squeeze it.

You could stick a tiny part of a leaf off the one still growing into a jar to moiten thngs up a bit?

Jigs, I'm almost wondering if maybe my scale isn't sensitive enough and debating buying another one. The scale is definitely accurate with weight... I weighed a quarter (the coin) and it was correct in reading that it weighs 20 oz. (fun useless fact for everyone).

The picture of that nug was measured in oz, but even if I switched to grams, it couldn't pick it up. What scale are you using? And how much did you pay for it? I'm debating getting another on Amazon for $14, and seems like it has good reviews with precision measurements. Heck, for $14, I figured it's worth a try.

Thanks for the idea about the leaf! I will definitely do that. I think I need to moisten up the buds just a little.

Jigfresh, the fluffyness of the buds also has me thinking of doing a SCROG for the next grow. I noticed that the nugs from the main colas were very dense and nice and tight. It's the small buds from below the canopy that is like "popcorn." Whether I do a SCROG or not, for my next grow, I will be trimming off all of the small buds below the canopy and forcing the plant to direct it's energy to growing the main colas. Does this make sense? Your thoughts?

I'm going to be reading through your first journal again to learn all about SCROG all over and see if it's what I want to do next.

I have a blade scale... it's cheap, but not $14 cheap. Here's a link to the product.

http://www.americanweigh.com/product_info.php?cPath=29&products_id=247&osCsid=6ef5eee4c24f546883cdb23931d7f100

I bought it at my local smoke shop (my guy is a cool mountain man like me who was giving out free cd's of his band while I was there).

The fluffy is from the light. The closer the light the denser the buds. That's why people like getting the light as close as possible. Also why people like giant lights. Big lights = dense buds.

Scrog is a lot of work, but it rocks. Pruning the bottom also works... that's what bigjesse is about to do in his grow, you might want to check that out:

https://www.rollitup.org/grow-journals/211503-big-js-legal-1k-watt-14.html

You are talking about lolli-popping... many people do it, and it seems to work quite well.

Another thing I used that I beleived helped with density was that Humboldt County's Own - Gravity.

And do you mean a quarter weighs 20 grams??? Can't weigh 20 oz. I looked it up right now and says they are 5 or 6 grams. Clad, eagle reverse resumed (1977 to 1998)
Designer: John Flanagan
Weight: 5.67 grams

Anyways, your scale sounds shitty. Good luck with everything else man.

Jigs, if you're endorsing the scale, then I'm gonna take your word for it. You haven't lead me wrong yet. As for the quarter, I forgot the period, so it's actually 0.20 oz. Sorry about that. Man, a 20 oz quarter? That would be some pocket change.

Okay, so onto everything else you talked about regarding my next grow. The amount of work that goes into a SCROG is definitely a concern of mine and something I'm considering. Fall is a very busy time for work with me, and not only that, but all the holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc). So I need to evaluate to make sure I can manage it. I may decide to put the SCROG idea to my third grow (if I get to a third).

As for bud density... that totally makes sense. I think what might have hurt the density of my buds is that I had to pull the colas off to the side away from the HID. And the tops of a lot of the colas were above the light line. SO... with that said, I will definitely be making a cooltube (read in your journal that you can get those candle glass things from Michaels... I'll be checking that out). This way, I can get the buds closer to the light source. On top of that, I plan on making my next grow box at least 5 ft tall. And as for lollipopping, I will definitely be doing that... if not something similar to it. Thanks for the suggestion with that nute. I'll look into it. I also plan on getting a digital ph tester and a PPM meter.

I think with all this, I will see better results next time. But again, I'm not complaining about the results from my first grow.

I'm going to spend some time tonight writing up a lil post discussing things I've learned and ideas for my next grow. As always, will appreciate your feedback after I write what is expected to be a novel. Thanks Jigs.

I took another clipping from Mary Jane and she's getting, there... slowly, but she's getting there. I would say at least another week.

So the big news of the day? I got my grinder and pollen press... and holy crap I don't know how I've gone so long without owning one. The herb smokes so much easier and not only that, but I felt like I needed less bud. I could just be crazy... or stoned. Either way, the grinder is a permanent deal now.

As for the press, it'll be some time before I will be able to use it, but I'm excited already.

This is something for myself, but figured I might as well include it in the journal for other first-time growers to learn from. The following are things I learned from my first grow, and what I plan on doing differently in future grows.

This probably will get a bit long...

Grow Area:
The height of the grow box (just shy of 4') is far too short, at least for the strains I was growing. Then they say you should have at least 5', they aren't kidding. Be sure to accommodate for how much height is lost with the reservoir/pot and the lighting... automatically lose at least 1 foot.

The footprint of the grow box (3' x 2') is fine for three plants. In fact, if I didn't do LST, I imagine I could have gotten 4 plants in there, as long as I'm not worried about the light getting to the bottom.

Next Grow: Height of grow box will be at least 5', closer to 6' if possible. I plan on focusing on the buds at the canopy, so maybe just 1 sq ft. per plant?

I'll put together a description of what I have in mind for my next grow box.

Germinating:
I absolutely will not start in soil again. It was so incredibly easy, but the problem was the transplant. Oh man, I still get frustrated thinking about how difficult it was to break the soil loose from the roots. Ripping away half the roots was heartbreaking. Not only that, but my grow slowed for about a week and a half from the shock.

Next Grow: Getting rock wool and giving that a shot.

Lighting:
Really glad I went with the HID. Definitely will stick with the HID and 4 CFLs, especially after what Jigfresh mentioned about getting denser buds with more light.

I had the pull the colas away from the HID to prevent them from burning. I needed about 6 inches between the bulb and the top of the plant/cola (another reason I need more height for the box).

The HID also really heated up the grow box. The temp of my box was, on avg, about 15 degrees hotter than room temperature with little foliage (no plants or very small plants).

As for the type of bulb, if I have the money, I want to get a HPS bulb to use during flowering. It seems like if you are on a budget, you want to invest in the flowering stage. I loved the Agrosun bulb, but I just want more results.

Next grow: Building a homemade cooltube. Will be following Jigfresh's design. HPS bulb if I have the budget.

Reservoir:
Two words: SEPARATE RESERVOIRS! Put each plant in its own reservoir for a number of reasons.
- Roots grow together, if one plant gets hacked down, you might have a problem
- Plants entering different stages of flowering at different times, so you'll want to give them different nutes mixes
- Different harvest times for each plant

Next grow: Maybe around 1.5 - 2 gal tub per plant. Might need another airpump... need to test out the current one to see if it can handle 2 Y-splits.

Flowering:
The bud (non-properly cured that I smoked for a sneakpeak) is still is potent, but I imagine it could have been better with more optimal growing conditions. Except for a couple main colas, my bud was very fluffy and loose, popcorn like. It's not that ideal looking bud that you associate with dank. And last but not least, the yield was great for the first grow, but call me greedy, I want more and better results.

Next grow: Go lolli-popping -- going to cut all small buds below the canopy and force the girls to direct their energy on growing the main colas (thanks jigfresh for the term).

Also look into Humboldt County's Own - Gravity, recommended by jigfresh.

Last, get more accurate water ph readings and start paying attention to ppm. Get a budget meter for next grow.

Low Stress Training:
Though the LST seemed to work in that several main "trunks" grew from one, but I'm not sure if it necessarily resulted in a bigger yield. I guess I'll have to find out with the next grow. Plus with more height, available, I could go without it.

Next grow: Try without LST unless height becomes a major problem.

General Hydroponics Flora Series (Nutrients):
Love it, easy to use, and plants seemed to love it. Might look into what other mixtures people are using to get even better results and make the girls even happier.

Strains:
I've only had the chance to try the non-properly prepped weed and I'm satisfied with the results... for a first grow. This is definitely more potent than the average stuff I've bought over the years, but I want something even more potent next time. Yep, I'm quite a greedy man. I just have high expectations for myself. I can really handle my weed and just always looking to smoke something more potent.

I know a lot of people say White Widow and Northern Lights are two of the most potent... but how difficult are they to grow? Anyone have any suggestions for REALLY potent strains good for a second time grower?

That's about it for now. I'm sure there will be more things, but I'll jot them down along the way.

Low key night tonight, have my best friend's daughter's first birthday party tomorrow... so no hangover allowed when there are gonna be little screaming babies. Time to smoke another bowl and play some PS3. :bongsmilie::bongsmilie::bongsmilie::bongsmilie::bongsmilie:

Alright, so after a LONG day out, I got home about an hour ago and whipped together some pot brownies. I had a big piece and now I'm just waiting to see how this hits me.

Last night, I made some cannabis canola oil with Lois Lane (AK-48) using the recipe/directions in RIU's FAQ section. I took a bunch of the frozen fan leaves, crumbled them up, threw them in there, and threw a "splash" of the better shake. I let it cook in the crock pot for 18 hours (started last night, turned it off when I got home). And literally whipped together the brownies in about 40 mins (including cooking time).

This is the first time I've EVER made pot brownies. Yep, smoking for 14 years and never made it once... and there's a good reason. The only two times I've ever eaten pot brownies... I got some stupidly retarded bad highs. The kind of high where you just want out of it... I guess you can say I wigged out.

So we'll see how this goes. I ingested it about 20 mins ago... still not feeling anything yet. I'll be back on later tonight to give an update.

It's time to get my Madden '10 on!!!

Nice... I love brownies. I hope they work good for you.

Did you get Madden at midnight? You seen the commercial with the guys who both got it at midnight and called eachother... funny stuff.

Really nice write up on the lessons from the grow. You did a really good job on that and I'm sure many will benefit from it.

Well the brownies were a bust. Don't get me wrong, they still got me high. But I didn't get nearly as high as I was hoping. But hey, for fan leaves, I'm very satisfied. Got some use out of them.

I'm actually not planning on making hash this time around, so I plan on making another batch of pot brownies with all shake, hoping that will be more potent.

I ended up eating A LOT of brownies 15 minutes ago, so we'll see what happens today.

Yeah, I picked up Madden last night. And yeah, that commercial is hilarious b/c it's so true. When you get your ass beat by a friend, you want to be able to say "well, you played it a lot more than I did."

That write up is a freakin' novel. :o

Hey, just wanted to let you know that you really helped me with this grow journal. I pretty much copied you in every way and just started my own grow. Thanks for a great journal! You dont have to check it out since its pretty much the same as yours but,

Thanks
stu
awesome stu! i'm glad i could help. i will follow your journal and hopefully i can pass on some pointers i've picked up along the way.

stay tuned, i'm hoping to start another grow towards the end of september.

Is there any way to reduce the stuff you made... the oil or whatever. It will make it stronger... you know what I mean.

Or maybe next time use less oil to start with... all the goods will get out into the oil butter with time, so the less the stronger.

Don't know if that's even possible.

No hash.... awwwwwwww :-(

Actually the main question i have for you is about LST. I just read your post about how you were thinking about not doing LST on your next grow. I mean i have a 2 plants and a decent size box i want to fill. Since it is my first time would you recommend just letting them grow as is? or try the LST?

jigs, yeah, next batch, I intend on definitely using less oil and more weed to increase the concentration. hopefully that will work. but going back to my whole high tolerance thing... i'm wondering if maybe fan leaves just don't do it for me? next pot brownies (probably next week) will be made with shake/high-quality-trim.

Brownies were a bust huh? I plan on making some brownies down the road and have been reading a very interseting thread on them. Now I looked at a lot of ways to make them but this one seems the best. Check it out maybe it will help you out.
https://www.rollitup.org/cooking-cannabis/26105-strongest-canna-butter.html
paranoid, thanks bro. i actually did come across the recipe and it looks really good. i plan on doing that for some cannabutter. brownies need vegetable oil (i used canola).

get this those... so last night before i went to bed, i had the munchies, so what did i eat? the freakin' pot brownies, and i had A LOT too. i think maybe a whole f'ing row. this morning when i get to work, after i settle in, i realize i still had a buzz in my head. so yeah, they do get you stoned, but i just want PO-TENT brownies. :weed:

you would be really surprised, LST is actually very easy to do, if you're worried that it will be complicated. it just takes a little time to do, that's al.

as for whether or not to do it. i mainly did it b/c i did not have enough height in my grow box. so i wanted to make sure the girls rode low while vegetating, and it worked. had i not pulled them down, my girls would have easily been at 12"+, and my box would have been far too short.

so long story short, how tall is your grow area?
