My First Grow 2 x 150watt CFL 15 Pictures!!!

This is my first grow, I got my seeds from bag weed and I was able to get 11 of them above ground. please give me some info or tips.

I'm experiencing some yellowing of these young leaves i just added some miracle grow plant food 8-7-6 1/4 strength tell me how i'm doing these puppies are 13 days old.

Nothing to comment on yet, just observe which ones grow fastest and strongest and separate them hope for females. Under CFL's you should really only have 2-4 plants unless you are LOADED up on more bulbs.

Thanks so much for the responses I did have them very close to my cfl lighting due to the fact i heard cfl were going to be weaker i have now moved them further away from the light.....the soil is wet because i took the pictures right after i added my nutes and water. I plan on adding nutes on every second watering?

One of the good things about CFLs is that you can get them closer to the plants, so nothing wrong with you having them close, they dont get that warm.

Your right about that and i've since come to the conclusion the leaves are cupping due to heat stress not due to the lights being too close.

Its been 15 days since my plants sprouted and jorge cervante's guide says that i can transpalnt to a bigger pot once i notice roots coming out of the water holes in my dixie cups. Is that the case or should i wait one more week before doing my final transplant?

Nice pictures! What type of soil are you using? you probably don't need nutrients yet if your in soil or just use really low strength. I started in seedling soil which is very neutral with little to no nutrients the little guys did fine for 4 weeks before I transplanted them. After transplant I put 3 plants in Miracle grow moisture control soil and they still haven't needed any nutrients and it's going on 6 or 7 weeks. I put 6 in Hempy hydro buckets and added 10-10-10 nutrients to them every watering. They needed more so I got some bat guano 10-2-1 and put that on top. Now I will just water for a bit.

When you go with soil you may be able to get away without ever adding nutrients, if you do need them too much or too little will be offset by the soils natural buffer and you should have pretty healthy plants with little effort. I am not sure about flowering because I have not gotten that big yet but I am sure nutrients are essential at that stage still not heavy though.

I would wait till you develop your first or second node before transplant. What you see now is merely the cotlydon, those will eventually die and fall off do not consider it your first node! Your first node will be the first fan leaves, those are the plants solar panels and are essential for growth. I think it's best to have those started before your transplant but it's really up to you.

Def not a pro but I'm wondering if the light can get thru those cups also do they have drain holes they look pretty wet even if it was just after a watering. Good luck on getting them to come around i'm having a few probs myself. Keep us posted.

I suspect over watering as well. Also agree you don't need to use nutes yet. Remember that over watering can look exactly like underwatering in how the plant responds, the leaves start drooping first then the plant starts to "suffocate" it is unable to take up the nutrients. The soil should get nice and dry in between watering. This helps the roots grow. The soil is looser when dry and the roots want to look for water so they are able to grow longer easily. A good rule of thumb with soil is that you should be able to water once every three days. This is assuming you are using soil with the right amount of aeration(drainage). If the soil is always moist then you are watering to often. Of course different strains and container sizes can change when you need to water. When you start having to water more frequently then every three days it may be time to transplant.

Also, are you using 2 150 watt equivalent cfls?
I have 12 100 watt equivalents for 3 little plants


p.s. They are looking ok so far. Slow growth due to not enough light prob. You should be providing 4k-10k lumens of lighting per square foot. Can you post a few more details? Whats the temp at different times. How often do you water. Are you watering a little or until they are poring water out the bottom? What soil are they in, what is the nutrient ratio of the soil they are in. What are your exact light specifications, you need to post actual wattage not equivalent. So 32 watt inside of 150 or 23 instead of 100 etc. What is the spectrum of your lights. Daylight 6500 is best for veg, bright white 5000 is great for lil babies 2700 soft white is best for flowering. 6500 blue 2700 red...Where are they kept...anything else you can think of

I'm actually using the miracle grow moisture control soil now This is a learning experience as well so i wont be doing that next time.:dunce: Thanks for clearing that up i was considering these first sets of leaves as the first node so i will definitely wait at least another week or until i get my first true node. I really appreciate the advice i willpost some new pictures this weekend when there is a noticeable amount of growth from the last pictures.

I'm not sure if light is penetrating the cup, yes i put pretty sizeable drain holes on the underside of the cups. I will definitely keep you posted on my progress.

I am using 2 150 watt equivalents at 32 watts. The temperature fluctuates from 70 degrees F at night to almost 90 during the day with a small fan set to a timer 18/6. I'm currently watering every other day but after what you advised me i think i will wait a bit longer in between watering. I purchased a small indoor green house and lined the first shelf with aluminum foil and placed a dark fabric over it in order to block light spillage at night. both lights are rated at over 2000 lumens so thats about 4,500 lumens currently. I also added a 2 liter DIY co2 reactor.

After looking at the pictures i took originally they are growing but very slowly and not as plush green as i would like anybody have an answer to the yellowing problem?

there looking pretty nice other than the yellowing which might be cause of the nutes, as you are giving it to them too early.( just a guess though)
