My First Ever Grow And It's With An AG

Well I finally bought my Aerogarden Deluxe and I started the growth today. I'm using the lights it comes with and the nutes it comes with. I set one blueberry strain seed into each of the pods that the set came with. I'm hoping to see something soon. Any tips or advice would be great.

exactly. but what do you do when you want to transplant to say soil?? considering the roots get to be around 1-2 ft in length each ?

When I purchased the piece I understood that it wouldn't produce a large harvest, but I'm just trying it out for now while I'm in a small place. When I move I would like to build my own DWC.

One more thing, I also just put the seeds directly into the foam pod and than placed them in their holes and I'm currently running it on 24 hour lights.

Some of my seeds have started to grow in an opposite direction which I thought was rather strange, so I opened the pod and turned them around in the sponge. They're still growig succesfully and are showing a great start at leafs. Any advice appreciated.

this will happen for a couple reasons...

1. you planted the seeds upside down...

or

2. the roots werent able to penetrate the sponge for some reason...rip the sponge evenly in half...

Peace

From what I can tell I might have just planted them upside down because a couple of the seeds roots were growing into the top of the sponge also ha well I got it slightly better now. Thanks for the input though now I know why.

Well all my sprouts have now grown above the well and I've surrounded 3 of the sides with aluminum foil for more light. I believe I'm supposed to have 24 hour light on them right now but I could be wrong any info on this would be great. Oh and should I surround the entire garden with foil or leave one side out like I currently have. Any advice would be much appreciated.

LOSE THE FOIL IMMEDIATELY!!!! you are only adding heat. it would be better to hang white printer paper taped to the cover of the AG.

here are some options.
1.) mylar at hydro store.
2.) emergency blankets in the camping/hiking department of your local walmart
3.) duct tape white printer paper to AG cover to hang on sides.(love my duct tape ROTFLMAO)

as far as your lights go, there is a big debate about that. from all i have read it seems most logical that the plants need a few hours of dark to produce sugars. and most peeps run 18/6 for veg stage with 12/12 on flower/budding stage.

some peeps are good with 24/7 some like 18/6

think i running 17/7 so my lights are only on when i am home for safety reasons.

also, my roots looked like that. one thin strand. but when i recessed them and gave them a day or two they sprouted mass of network. i will post a picture soon.

you should get an air pump/ they are cheap and easy to run/hook up.

check my post in hydro/aeroponics section i just updated, there is a pic of the pump i use and the airstone i just got. little mini ones. they are so cute. yeah whatever.

the title is AG slow growth update with pics

I'm sorry this is a dumb question, but what do you mean by recessed them? haha. Well I took down my tin foil and added paper.

well to start with the paper should be a little more reflective than the tin foil and should be less heat. BUT the paper could catch fire. just saying. those emergency blankets that you can get from walmart are cheap like 2 bucks and they are made of mylar which is he best stuff you can use.

mylar it self isnt that expensive. this is what i got. 10 bucks have plenty left over.

as far as "recessing" them. when they broke out of seed shell and started to grow, they were stretching alittle for the light.

here's what i did:
1.)carefully remove AG pod. should have one single root.
2.) carefully push up foam pieces. (i cut mine in half. basically just finish the cut already made.)
3.)replant or "recess" the seedling so it sits further down. some of my roots had started to grow into the side of the foam pieces. i just seperated them and moved them down.

when i had everything out i just kept the pod horizontal and removed the top piece of foam. then i laid the seedling on the bottom half keeping the new leafs just from touching the foam. then i replaced the top piece and put pod back.

i will post some new pics and hopefully i will have some that i need to recess so you can see.

so you wanted to know how i recess them here goes.follow the pics and the tag lines.

first foto is of all six. the one i will recess is the one to the right of my biggest one.

next is a shot of the one with stretching as it sits in the AG.

ok removed the pod and here is a shot of that with roots

here is another of the roots.

next is the position to remove the top foam piece.(again mine are split in half)

now with the top piece gone i have set the plant lower or "recessed" it. note the position of the leaves to the plastic pod. (i did not, by the way, have any roots growing into the sides of the foam when i removed the top piece.)

here i replaced the top piece.

next is the recessed plant and the final is the end result.
i put the cover back on to help with moisture until it grows again.

i have done this with all of the plants in the pics. you can see from my biggest one that is only 3-4inches how bushy it has gotten so early.

so, if your AG seedlings stretch, feel free to "recess" them.
