My first DWC/Aero grow --- 3 Durban Poison/600w/Closet SCROG

First, let me introduce myself:

I have browsed RIU for about a year, slowly gathering research, knowledge, and wisdom from lurking around. I am a Colorado Medical Marijuana patient, and look forward to sharing my first grow with everybody.

Because Colorado Law only allows me to grow 3 plants, I am going to attempt to grow 3 trees in a closet Scrog.

Closet space is 4x2x9

Materials/Specs:

54 Gallon Tote
3 6'' Netti Pots
600w HPS with Air Cooled Hood
11 sprayer aeroponic assembly
250gph submersible pump.
2 site ECOPlus air pump
2 air stones

GH NUTES: Flora/Micro/Bloom

Im a little short on cashflow right now, so i havent bought everything yet.

Still Need to buy:

PH/EC/TDS Meter
Inline CFM fan (454 cfm)
Carbon filter (can wait a month or so till it starts getting stinky)

GENETICS:

I am getting 3 durban poison clones from my local dispensary: I went in to pick em up yesterday and was dissapointed to hear that the whole tray was dropped and the clones got fucked up, so I'm due to pick up 3 more from the next batch on monday 9/21

Im hoping that my lack of PH/PPM meter wont fuck up plants, I suppose i am just gonna add reccomended amounts from the GH feed charts. by the time im done vegging I should have the PH meter and inline fan all bought up and ready!

  • Is this a bad idea? Are there any foolproof methods to not fuck up PH etc for the first couple weeks of Veg? I can get water from the grocery store for now...Please, any input is appreciated!
  • Also have some questions about mixing nutes, topping of the res, and supplements (are they necessary?), but i suppose we can get to that later

Any input is greatly appreciated, I will post pictures as I see fit.

Oh, and I know this is my first grow, but i believe goals are necessary:

I want to get .45g/w, or about 10 ounces.

I believe this is extremely optomistic at aabout 3+ ounces per plant, but the way I see it, I have aboout 8 sq feet of screen and can easily get an oz/sqft. Also because I am going to veg each plant out, it should be a fuckin jungle in that bitch.

The dispensary is saying that this durban poison mom is known for being extremely resilient, and having heavy sugar coated nugs. He says "Expect forearm sized colas, especially in a SCROG"

availability, and because i was told its extremely resiliant to mold/bugs, PH imbalances etc.

Also, we're having a mad shortage on clones in the Denver area, none of the dispensarys have shit, and if they do they are shitty company clones.

Anything i should be wary about the DP?

lol , so i think that u wud pry only wanna veg for about a month n a half... then flip it to 12/12
yea, im thinkin about 5 or 6 week veg, or whenever that screen is close to full then flipping it.Im just worried about my initial mixing of nutes because i have no idea what the PH of the water is here (or in store water), and i dont wanna kill the babies

UPDATE:

Today I got my clones. Turns out there was only 1 Durban Poison, and 2 Randoms..These could be either FLO, Nevilles Haze, Great White Shark, or Durban Poison, he doesnt know cuz they got mixed up.

I transplanted the Rapid Rooter clones into the Aero/Hydro System after cleaning all the Hydroton

Added to 15 Gallons of Distilled Water:

55ML GH Micro
40ML GH Bloom
130ML GH Grow

I decided i would rather add nutes than to overdo it without a meter. Im still mad worried about my PH being fucked up and the clones not getting what they need

Had a few leak problems but i think they are taken care of for now

TEMP 74 degrees
HUMIDITY 20%

calculated that the ratio i used was

G M B
8.6/3.6/2.6

all are ML/gallon..is this too much to be running for rooted clones?

..im top feeding every few hours beause i dont think the rapid rooters are getting enough water from the sprayers. Im hoping they will respond to the nutrients well, but i cant tell cuz i dont ahve ppm meter or ph meter...

Today - Day 3 from transplanting, The plants are doing okay

My roomate dropped a neti pot in the reservoir with one of the clones in it (the hole is just a hair too big)..he instantly got it out and put it back into the neti pot with the hydroton..Im hoping this doesnt shock the shit outta it, but chances are it will... IT gave us a chance to look at the roots coming out of the rapid rooter...They looked pretty good...one was about an inch long...that means the other 2 (who look fairly healthy), are sure to have some roots going into the hydroton

Been top feeding with distilled water, starting to see some plant nodes growing at the top of the plant..Im hoping in about a week the plants will be over their transplant shock, and will be ready for some sprayers on + Nutes...and then the growth will take off

thats about it for now

Plants are starting to grow new leafs. One of them is really taking off. The durban poison in the middle is still the runt of the group, but it looks like shes fighting to put out a new set of nodes. Probably gonna feed with distilled water for 5 more days to get some strong roots (hopefully out of the netti pot) before turning on the sprayers

Thats about it

Update 9/29 Day 8 Veg

Still have no ppm meter or ph meter, but plants seem to be doing okay. The roots have started to drop out of all of the neti pots .The durban poison in the middle is still looking a bit weak, but the other two seem to be growing pretty steady..Their roots look healthy and look to be developing strongly. No new pics, my camera phone doesnt get into the best detail

Update 10.20

Day 29

I dont think anyone is reading this, nor cares since this grow is so small but heres a couple pics:

First is day 18 and second is day 29. Moved the plants to a new location with more closet space. Changed the res, and instead of using distilled im running brita water outta the tap! ahha, Im so broke its not even funny. Still havent bought a ph/ppm meter, been giving pretty low dosage of nutes, plants havent reacted negatively at all so imma go with it for now.

thats about it.

Looking pretty good, Check out your local hydro shop they sell ph test kits for 7.50 (they're drops but they'll work for letting you know where you are) good luck
