My only past experience with growing, is with soil. I can't believe how fast plants grow in a hydroponic system.

Those are gorgeous plants. Will you be putting them under HID lights and how long have they been in the system?

They have been growing for about a month now. I just started to bud them 3days ago to determine which are going to be female, then I will revert them back to veg and use the females as mothers. I use florecents for veg, but I have HPS for budding.

Just a note on sexing this way:

Keep a very very close eye on them. When you see a single pistil on a plant you have a female. I would stop the 12/12 at that point and foliar feed them and change the light cycle back to 18/6

If you go too far into flowering it is a mess to revert them back to vegetative and it takes weeks. If you just let them show a single pistil, you can revert them relatively quickly.

I would then grow this female out and take lots of cuts.

You could alternatively take a couple of cuts off of each one and root them seperately under 12/12 light and clone them for sex. This takes about a week longer but you dont have to revert them back to vegetative and you have less problems in the future with cuttings that want to flower when stressed. When you find which ones are female, take lots of cuts off of them and enjoy!

Keep us posted on your progress!

Thanks for the advice. Does sexing the plants in this way have any other negative effects on the clones? (slow growth, prone to desease, low potency, etc...)

They are just more prone to premature flowering if they get stressed. Everything else about them is normal.

Cool, thanks again. Stress sucks, but I try not to worry about it too much, that only causes more stress. ;oP But seriously, I take really good care of my plants so I don't think stress will be an issue.

Out of the six plants three were male, one was a hermaphrodite, only two were female. Now at least I have a source of female clones, so the next crop should be better.

The larger of the two in the pic above turned out to be a male also. So, out of six seeds planted I got one good female.... THAT SUCKS!!! But, I have two rooted clones, which in a couple months should be nice mothers.

Here is my ONLY mature female from this crop. I had to shut down the lights to get a pic. The two lights are 70 watt HPS (lighting on a budget). This check I'm going to head down to the hydro shop to get reflectors and milar.

Quick question man. what is ur feeding schedule. Do u leave ur water pump on all day? 12 hours a day or just a couple time a day for acouple minutes. Im using a similar system just with rockwoll instead of those stones/pellets. Mine is just a little larger amnd im having trouble figuring out the best feeding schedule

yeah i have those sprinklers too dude, but I use the cage style dripprs that ur using. Man yeah im really curious about ur feeding schedule man

I started them off (in veg) feeding three times per day durring daylight hours for 15 minutes each feeding. Once I switched to 12/12 I started feeding six times (every four hours) per day for 15 minutes each feeding.

Still getting bigger. Just started using Sweet in the res. we'll see what happens. I still haven't baught milar or reflectors, but I rigged up some reflectors out of the ones that came with the lights. I have a leaf ? real quick also. Why do the leaves start out as 3 point, then 5, then 7, etc... as they move up the plant until about the hight when flowering was started, then start going back down 11 point, 9 point, 7 point, etc...?

Finished with week 5 of flowering and going into week 6. Plant is still doing great, looks healthy and is starting to get frosty leaves. Also she is still growing about 2 inches per week now at 30.5" tall and roughly 24" in diameter.

Did you revert them back to vegetative from flowering? WHen you do this the leaf sets do exactly that, they go down to a single blade, then start going back up, 3 blades, 5 blades... that is the reverting process. Weird, isnt it?
