My mother in law sent me this idea on a youtube video, i watched it once and went outside to make it...

Its a plastic 55 gallon drum with a wooden lid i made...
some 2x4's with a 45 cut on the bottom to hammer them in the ground..
An old rake handle drilled through it with a 1" hole saw
a door cut out and attached with an old door hinge i had laying around and locked with a hook and eye latch...
theres some air holes drilled on the bottom and im going to be putting some all-thread through it at diffrent angles so it mixes everything up when it spins but for

seems to me you would want a few coats of some good exterior paint on all surfaces of the wood you are using in your system. will it not eventually compost with the rest of the plant material and fail?

the only wood it touches it the water sealed rake handle thats shoved through the center...if i ever get enough compost in there to make it fall i wouldnt know if i should smile or ask my wife to take it easy at the grocery store

Now you need to hook a pulley to a slow turning motor. Something like an ice cream machine mixer motor would be pretty cheap and torquey and should work well.

Great job!

thanks man! i thought about hooking a motor to it, like an rc motor or something, i have some that would work...but my kids spin the hell out of it when were outside so im do worry about it
hook the motor to a solar panel-
:)
Good idea, but for the money i could prolly just get a self turning composter lol

the plywood lid is pressure treated. i would take years to break down and only if my composter stayed full and it rained everyday...the composter is backed up to a shed and covered by the roof
