My buds have lost their crystals and smell! Is this a regular thing?

hi folks.
wanted to comment on the curing of my buds i harvested some 13 days ago.
as a new comer to growing, i m not sure if i ve gone wrong somewhere down the line or if things are going ok but patience is needed.
i ve had my buds hung dry for 5/6 days until crisp almost brittle, then paper bagged for further 4/5 days and then recently i ve jarred them, burping once/twice aday.
since cutting them, the crystals have kinda vanished! the smell we all love has also gone. smells like hay or something. far from the smell i was expecting. smoking it now is harsh and for a very little hi pointless.
the plant was flushed in fact it only was fed with water and harvested with lights on.
have i gone wrong somewhere? is this a normal occurance? will the jarring stage bring back the smell and crystals?
all advice is welcome, cheers.

u see i did have the same problem :) they dont smell at all until u touch them then aroma is stunning :) and i think they use some different kind of curing maybe water curing or something and i think it takes alot of time to do it right i mean nice couple of months so no worries just enjoy :)

Yeah, it's pretty much the norm for the smell to fade in cure. It's still inside, as are the trichs.
I'd guess this was an unknown strain, and if it's not getting you very hi, that won't change enough to make it good weed, IMO.

I grew one once that was a covered with as many trichs as any I'd seen at that time (looked perfect) but that weed would not get anyone hi at all . . . smelled good, tho.

seems to be a strain thing...... some you smell in your pockets and some you only notice while cutting up... Me I don't worry about smell..I go for buzzzzzzzzzzz.. :)

Sorry to hear what's happened with your crop.

You should hang the buds in a dark room and when harvesting cut the plants before the light cycle is due to come on, this is because light degrades the tricromes (Some peeps turn there's lights off for the last day or two).

Good luck next time round!

you say they smell/taste like hay usually an immature plant will taste more like grass than weed did you let the plant finish up? the smell and taste seems to set-up in the plant better late in flower. also the trychs dissappeared if the plant was immature the trychs would be visable while the plant was growing but they shrivel up when the bud dries. mature trychs get pretty big and plentyful and even with shrinking they would still be visable. put up a pic, im curious

definatly a early harvest, dont think curing for a lifetime will ever fix a hay smell.
only comes from immature plants......

simple fix let em ripen

Hey roxistar,
Great article on proper drying and curing. I use pretty much have been using the same method for a few yrs and a few other tricks to make buds become more dense if needed.

Trick One - For making a say little more fluffy bud dense up more. I will rough trim my buds down ready for hanging. I take them down off the lines usually half the normal time to line dry properly and at this point break them further down.

Next I put them into the large oven turkey cooking bags and suck all the air out getting nice and compressed. I open bags once a day let them breath for 1/2 hr and mix up the buds and repeat suck all air out and get the bags real tight. I find that usually after 3 days of doing this they had really densed up nice and are ready for the paper bag method of drying more before the cure.

NOTE - Please keep in mind I only do this for certain buds and not all my drying and curing. I have founf this little trick works wonders.

But I do use the oven roasting bags for all curing after they come out of the grocery paper bags.

The reasons I usually am drying somwhere around 30-40 lbs and to use even the 1 gal pickle jars would just not work out.

I do however use the 1 gal pickle jars for curing select buds I keep for personal and stash I give out to friends throughout the yr :)

Could it have been a ruderalis strain? Those don't have the THC content of sativa and indica.
Huh?? Can you explain that bro?

Appreciated

And to the OP, it's normal and a cure should revive em. If they are to crispy which sometimes can cause a hay smell then just rehydrate by adding a fresh fan leaf for a few hours.

According to many authorities there is officially only one species in the genus cannabis that being cannabis sativa, there are as many people now know three species, broadly speaking asian indica, equatorial sativa and russian ruderalis.Ruderalis sometimes known as "ditch weed" can be seen growing at the side of the road in parts of russia. It stayed under the radar for quite a while being low in the properties that make cannabis important. However it does have one unique quality that is not genetic in the other two and that is it is "autoflowering",ie.it flowers according to chronological age rather than hours of sunlight recieved in 24hours.af..
