Mutated plant? Nute burn? Could use a little help.

So I have 3 plants, they are feminized ladyburn 1974 from green house seed co. One is 10 days old and the other 2 are 7 days old. All planted in the same soil. Watered the same, everything the same. 55% humidity. But 2 don’t look healthy and the 3rd beginning to show the sign the other 2 did before things got worse which is a twisted leaf. I keep the lights 3 55W CFL ( each plant has there own light) on 18/6 a day. I plan on moving them outside very soon but want to correct this problem first. I know many of you have been growing a long time and know your stuff so advice would be VERY much appreciated. The first picture is the plant that looks the healthiest EXCEPT 1 of the leafs are beginning to twist.. and that’s what happened to the other 2 before it got worse. The second picture well there’s uneven fan fan leafs and discoloration (possibly magnesium deficiency??) and the last 2 are of the oldest (10 days old) and man a lot going on here... brown tips, looks like it is beginning to shrivel and 3 fan leafs growing out instead of the normal 2. I haven’t gave them ANY nutrients at all yet besides what’s in the soil.

Brown spots could mean a calcium deficiency. If the stems are turning puple you most likely got a magnesium deficiency. The leaves also look like they are taking on that taco shape which usually means the lights are too close, temps are too hot or both. Basic grow nutes would contain sufficient amount of calcium and magnesium. I would raise the lights a bit even though they are CFLs and water with a tad bit of grow nutes.

What soil are you using?

Picture 1 to me looks hungry.

Picture 2 looks like you’re getting variegation happening which could be caused by an incorrect pH imbalance in the “soil” (again don’t forget to say what soil)

Picture 3 looks slightly over fed and possible pH imbalance.

Picture 4 looks like the same plant as pic 3.

your the 2nd person to mention magnesium deficiency.. but aren’t these too young to have that? I always heard not to add nutrients until week 3.

Deficiencies can occur at any time but it's defo more common in the bloom stage. I mentioned a mag deficiency because some of the leaves look as though they are getting lighter between the margins. They're also a bit blotchy. People say not to feed until week 3 to avoid burning plants. Yours seem to be eating all the food in the soil and asking you for more. I would supplement with a bit of calmag every now and again before actually switching to grow nutes.

I heard spraying them with Epson salt could help? Not sure about this though.

Yeah that works to. Sometimes when I have a mag deficiency I spray with epsom salt which helps a lot. I personally recommend calmag though.. A lot of the time calcium deficiencies will follow a mag deficiency. It's like the two seem to come as a pair.. I believe thats why they make cal/mag but who knows

Okay tonight before the lights go out I’m going to lightly spray them with a little bit of epson salt, hopefully it will help.

That soil you’ve chosen says it has feed for 9 months of growth.

My guess is too many nutrients and a pH imbalance causing issues with uptake.

9 months of sustained Feed!!! This must have some form of slow release pellets in it to sustain growth for that length of time.

Slow release pellets work by dissolving a little at a time every time you water.


Personally I think this soil maybe your issue.

Did you cut it with anything like perlite or coco to lighten the mix?
