Must Stash Crop! Curing Fast?

I just harvested my last two plants and must leave on a trip soon! I could be gone as long as a month. I know ideally you would be cracking open jars daily so the buds can breath, but I don't have weeks to do that. If they are somewhat dry, will they be safe from molding? I would hate to get home and find my whole harvest moldy or mushy! How dry should I go?????

I like the way you think. I would of said dry them really good but then they would taste bad. +rep just incase I'm ever in that position
 
I was considering that freezer option, but I read that somehow freezing the buds draws the moisture to the outside and can harm trichomes, reducing potency. has anyone ever stored in the freezer and noticed anything? I have no first hand experience with it...

Its true, freezing it can harm the trichs a lil bit... but it'll be fine. Its a lot better than a hasty dry which will make it taste like ass.
 
I think you will end up with a reduction in potency either way. I would stick with the freezer method to reduce chances of mold or mildew during curing, and avoid that hasty dry.

Maybe I'll go half and half and see what happens, cut my chances.

I am on my 6th day drying with half, and on day 3 with the rest of the crop. I have almost a week to cure with the first batch. Still not enough time??
 
id say 1 weeks gets em a little cured but if your going away you cant take chances on getting mold. you can also try those little humidity catchers that come in pill bottles. they might not work for a whole month but im sure they will do some good in a cool dark place. id agree with your original plan go half and half, then you got comparison for future storage.
 
I know someone that would go quail hunting.When he got back and did what ever it is you do to them he placed them in a ziplock bag and filled it with water, sealed it and threw it in the freezer. He said it helped keep them from getting freezer burned and kept it fresher a lot longer. Might be something to look into, the idea sounds plausible to me any way.

Submerging buds in water? I wouldn't do that... but thats just me.
 
silica sounds like an interesting option, the only problem is that my time constraints and schedule make it hard to order that stuff online at this point. Would have to find them locally at a store. Any idea who might carry them?

Has anyone ever cured with these pellets?
 
If you had like 12 days you could always do the water cure method. Someone made a thread about it on here once. It takes seven days to cure in distilled water, through osmosis, and then you dry them. If you're able to get them totally dry in five days, then that would be 12 for the whole procedure. Now you could probably get away with six days of curing and four days of drying and be done in ten...

It doesn't hurt the buds because THC is non polar (same with all the other cannabinoids) and will not dissolve in water. However, all the other crap like chlorophyll and left over nutes (nitrogen is a big one) will.

yea just buy a shit load of little beef jerky bags:mrgreen: they have those "freshness" packets with little silica balls.

Why did you call him "jackass"? Having someone cure it for you isn't a very good idea either. If it's a lot of weed, I wouldn't trust anyone to cure it for me. But then again, I'm old and wise...

Ha, yeh you could noticed a huge difference in weight between the dry and wet stages! ;)

Is there no way of putting them in say a drafty room, in an almost, but not really airtight box? Like a loosely made cardboard box and they could dry out gradually, but not too fast. Fast enough to prevent mold and slow enough not to taste like shit.. I mean the longer you cure it the better, right? Some people go upto 6 months. Why not take advantage of the fact you won't be tempted to touch it for a month or so?

That's just my 2c, haven't teased myself before by investigating the curing side of things in too much detail, waiting until I get there to find the perfect method. (I know low temps and no direct sunlight is perfect to save from deterioration)
 
Hey you should try some damprid to get them nice and dry. I know they get shrooms dry in about 2 days. But you can find it at walmart by the detergents it will probably be in a little bucket for about 3 bucks. It does pretty much the same thing as silica gel except that its not reusable.
