Mushroom growing pf tek question?

So first time trying this out and my jars were pint size. I did 5 jars and some showed brown in the colinazation so i threw them all away. I still have more spores so i am going to try again....My question is do the size of the jars that are colinizing matter? I thought the jars i bought were too big so im going to walmart to buy half the size jars. My other question is if the jars show brown spots during the colinizing is this bad? or just continue to let them do their thing?..thanks

Size shouldn't matter unless they are really really huge. And then you don't wait enough. Are you doing something wrong with your working area cleaning/sterilization? Or are you messing up on the jar prep? Or is it just what you do after they are inoculated. 5 out of 5 go bad, even for first attempt seems pretty odd. Are you adding too much water to your mix? There has to be something that you are missing.

i sterlize the jars on the stove for 3 hours. Then inserted the spores thru the top. They were only in my closet for 2 weeks, .maybe i should have done 3. but they had brown spots everywhere and i thought they were bad.

Well, your biggest problem is the tech. Save the spores and use them with another method all together.

There are lots of them. Sterilize soaked rye berries - innoculate them, let them colonize (you can shake them), pour them out on a tray or even keep them in the jar and put 50/50 coir vermiculite on top.
