Moving to Colorado to get MMJ (denver maybe)

Hi, I live in the Denver metro. University of Colorado - Boulder. Colorado University - Ft Collins and Colorado School of Mines - Golden.

There are 319 dispensaries in Denver and god know 100+ in Boulder and 123 in Fort Collins at last count.

According to the Denver Post, 80% of the MM recommendations have come from like 15 doctors all of which have lost their license to prescribe medicine (DEA stuff).

The scene is CO is in flux. Dispensaries have opened in residential areas and near schools. There is going to be a lot of new laws and regs coming over the next year. They are going to try to restrict it, license it and tax it.

A big problem, to me, are the kids. I go to a dispensary up in Ft Collins (all of them are near Campus) and you have never seen a healthier looking bunch of sick folks in your life. Kids on bikes, kids with skateboards, kids with skis, all coming to get their dope. This will come back to bite us in the ass, I promise you.

$600 isn't going to get you a house in this town unless you get lucky or live in a really bad area. It will get you a 2 bedroom apartment if you're not to choosy about the neighbors and amenities, but finding one in one of the "nice"areas for that price might be tough. You might think about having a couple of roommates or maybe renting from someone thats set their houses basement up as a seperate apartment (fair number of those around most of the campuses close to residential areas).

In my experience you really don't have much trouble with the gang types unless you go looking for it, and we don't have much in the way of drive by shootings or that kind of stuff going on. For someone that's college age the biggest risk is going to be if you run into them while out at the clubs, but unless you're into rap/hip hop or mariachi type music you probably won't be in the right places anyway.

Transportation really depends on where you're at. We have light rail, but only on a few major routes. You can get pretty much anywhere on buses, but it might take you a while to get where you're going if you have to transfer a couple times. I road the buses for a few years, and you can get around on them, but waiting for them is a pain in the rear, especially when it's snowing and the temp is 2 below.

Thanks for the input, what you said helps me out alot. I do have one roommate going with me so we are dividing the cost between the two of us. What is the best area to grow in if we were to grow a dozen plants? Would it be a duplex, house, apt. Im asking because I dont really know the place or what realators tolerate. Some reality agencies might not liek it if im in an apt. but might be okay with it if im in a seperate house.

If i need to throw down an extra hundred to get a house in the right neighborhood then i will. As far as trouble and gangs, i dont hang around anyplace that seems like trouble. I would back in my younger years but not anymore. Thanks for all the info Ill be checking into which area I should be in. Any suggestions on the areas to look at that are realitively close to campus?

Until you decide which school it's tough to say where the best place to look for housing will be. If you're going to one of the downtown campuses I'd say you best bet is to plan on using the light rail, since that will let you live just about anywhere on the light rail corridors and still have a commute of no more then 45-60 minutes.

As for the thing with landlords and MMJ, I'm the wrong person to ask. I've got my own house and don't know anyone thats growing MMJ that's not doing it on their own property, so I have no information to base an answer on. Though if you can find a landlord that's anything like my last one he won't care, as long as you share some with him.

Im coming there to grow just so i can be above the law and not below. Ive already realized that i wont flip a profit off a few plants and so thats out of the question. I want the experience and knowledge of living in a semi legalized state so when my state legalizes it then i can bring the knowledge back and open up shop back home.. thanks

Thanks man.. my girl is looking to do her Mastors of Psychology at CSU and if i did my research correctly then that campus is right downtown. If so, then what area would be good for us. Someplace without gangs and someplace thats not all uptight. Appreciate it bud

CSU is in Fort Collins - about an hour North of Denver, CU is in Boulder with a campus in Denver as well.

Yah i searched there site over really good and there Mastors Psychology in Clinical Studies is right downtown in denver

I'm pretty sure CSU's Denver location is strictly for people who already have the bachelors degree and are working on their masters, but I could be wrong. Anyway, if your going to use the light rail to get downtown you can live anywhere along the rail lines. Just as a general rule of thumb, anything that has an address of 1100 south or higher (1200 , 1550, etc) and that is along the I-25 corridor should be fine, but outside of glendale finding the right rent might be tough. I'd suggest you take a look at the Denver map and look at cities/subdivisions alongside I-25 first, then look into what the rents are in each of them. If you have any specific addresses you come across and aren't sure about just post them and I'll give you my opinion of the area. BtW, while I can find virtually any address in this town (I worked for UPS for 8 years) I don't know the North end nearly as well as i do the others, so if there is anyone who lives up in arvada, wheatridge, etc that wants to chime in on that area feel free.

You could just move to Alaska where nobody cares what you do, Anchorage is about 300,000 people i think and weed is everywhere...

My girl lived in alaska when her mom was in the military.. she said its too cold for her to ever go back lol the plants would deffiently go purple up there

Yea if your main focus is getting a good education then that is not a problem here. As others have said plenty of really good schools here.
Engineering - CU Boulder or Colorado School of Mines (very good school)
Business - I know DU has a very good MBA program but not really sure about under grad programs but its kinda expensive.

CSU- another very good 4 year collage but its about 1 hour north of Denver.

Getting your med. card right now is very easy here. Not sure how much longer that will be the case since Romer is trying to screw everyone. NO records no signing over care giver rights 225$ which included 90$ state fee was what I paid.

ft. Collins is the place to be. you wont have any trouble finding a place to live. there aren't any gangs, just college kids everywhere. Denver is expensive and over rated. boulder is cool but all the new age yuppies are pretty annoying. ft. Collins is the best college town in the state.

and as far as your mmj card. it is effective as soon as you get the signed form from the doctor. you have like 2 months to mail in the $90 fee to the state.

you can get your card for as little as $50 if you make a dispensary your caregiver. but between $100 and $200 if you don't.

as far as medical qualifications go...
9news did a report where their intern got a card for an earache. the doctor called it chronic pain....
I doubt that you will have any trouble getting a card.

Im moving to Broomfield, about 15 mins from boulder and Denver. I can't wait to be up their smoking great bud. My last trip was amazing. I'm just affraid that this Romer fellow will screw everything up before or right after I arrive, early April. I guess i could still buy off the street in boulder. just harder than it should be. Seems the problem is these officals don't want college kids using this as medical. What about the college students who really need it. I'm very scared of this happening. And the only reason I'm skeptical about moving. Part of me tells me though that Colorado is going to overtake Cali in the legalization movement... Atleast I hope. I've just smoked some bud I got in boulder so I probably don't make sense.

lmao. says who? people are still moving to cali and oregon and making plenty. im sure they will be fine here as well. proper curing+proper trichs=$$ just about everywhere in the world, including co and ca. its about as sure as trading gold. i would know since i have traded gold.
