I got the best idea for you ... very easy to install.

Go buy some Fog Lights from Auto zone ,Pep Boys , Napa whatever part store. The lights will be 20-50bucks on the high and there usually 55watt halogen bulbs,It'll even come with a switch . All you got to do is go into your fuse box and look at the diagram itll say cigarette lighter pull the fuse out and replace with a 30amp fuse but FIRST You take the power wire from the fog light and push into the hole then put the 30 amp fuse in to hold the wire for the fog lights. Now for a negative , just look in your trunk . Pull a panel / carpet back and look for a bolt you can wrap that wire around.

If you got tools then drill a tiny hole on the trunk then screw a bolt into the hole .

Pull the carpet / panel and find a nice piece of sheet metal in the trunk , probably near the rear speakers .

This is really easy job

Will halogens be a sufficient source of light? I like this idea but the reason I was using the inverter in the first place is because the Plant will be in the back of a box truck. I planned on putting a small computer fan in there as well. I guess I could tap into the pos and neg on the dome light of the truck if it has a sufficient fuse. Great idea man!

that inverter should really be able to supply those lights, thats not much power. its possible you have a bad altenator or battery also. is the inverter over heating? car floors get hotter than africa so it could be heating it up and thats whats causeing it to go into alarm mode. or the battery on your car cant provide that voltage for long periods of time and the alarm is coming on because it doesnt have the required power.

newer car? how old is the battery
The battery im using is good, trust me I work on DC power for a living and can tell. Besides when the inverter died I was already doing a discharge test for over 3hrs. During this test I monitored the voltage and current every 10min for the first hour then every hour after that. When I went to check on it for the fourth hour the lights were out and the inverter wouldnt turn them back on (think it over heated). At this point the battery voltage was at 12.35 volts (more than enough to start the inverter).

how you planning on concealing them in the car? do they fit in your trunk?
As I started to explain above the plant will be concealed in a 4.5ft tall wardrobe box (the kind you buy at moving places) in the back of a box truck. I would like to hook up a small computer fan in the top of the box for some ventilation. I was gonna put the box in the middle and put boxes all around it so if any one looked in wouldnt be so obvious. Just one box out of many in the truck.

6 weeks is just going to start smelling strong for your drive! I think it would be fine for two days in the dark if it had good ventilation and all. Something to think about though. I've read that keeping your lights on for 1 or two days (continuously) at week 5 causes "double-flowering" where buds send out new pistils and increases yield. I don't think that even messing up your light cycle for 1-2 days is going to seriously mess up your grow.

That being said, I wouldn't travel through most of the Bible belt states with a full-sized plant in your car. People get locked up for a single seed in their ashtray in Kansas, Missouri and the like. If you have a med-permit try to steer through states with reciprocity :)
I am definitely not heading through there heading along the coast down south although thats not to much better. Im just a guy trying to move his shit, not a mexican tryin to transport hundreds of pounds to its final destination. Know what I mean hopefully that will work in my favor if I do have problems. Sorry if I offended any mexicans. :)

I'm really suprised that the inverter couldn't handle it to tell you the truth...

1200 miles, I've made that in a day. literally, took me 22 hrs straight. leave at night when your still alert that way when you start getting tired it will be daylight and easier to stay awake. If it were me, i would make the trip straight and suck it up. But that could also be cuase I'm an impatient son of a b. Also, try using less lights to see if the inverter handles that, it may not be sufficient, but for 2 days it should more than do.

next to that scotts idea ranks #2 to me, plugging them in at the hotel is probably what your going to want to go with.
Hope this was helpful
Maybe stepping up to one large CFL would be better than several small ones. Im pretty sure that each one of those has a built in ballast to make them work. Maybe one ballast instead of four would work better. I Dont Know. My old lady is driving her car and following me. She is unable to drive that far in one shot. I personally would do that but she is worried about driving out there on her own incase she has car trouble. I dont have any problems with the long driving. I once drove from Tampa, Fl to Richmond, VA in one 16 hour shot with no problem. I am a little worried about transporting it into the hotel. I feel like thats when I would get caught, somewhere between the truck and room.

Shit man, it's only two days. Put the bitch in the ventilated box and stop worrying about it. Water it well before you leave. Park far away from everyone else at the rest stops and ventilate the back of the tuck, i.e., open the door. Keepin her cool is the key. Two days in the dark is no big deal.
Relax, smoke a bowl.
Happy trails,
Fred

I'm not sure where you are moving to , but on the West Coast , they have agriculture check points on the freeways. They look for fruits and plants. I wouldn't risk it . Just move and start another.
How the fuck is that legal????

Also you could always plan your trip out for us and maybe theres a RIU member on the way whos willing to let a plant and fellow RIU member crash for the night.

I dunno, I've tried networking with other texans on rui, the problems is growers are paranoid by nature, its the site's anonimity that allows us to get as far as we do in our interactions...Granted I personally wouldn't have a problem with it, I wouldn't suggest driving through SA, TX either ;)

You may have a point about west Texas. Immigration is thick down there, when they see UHauls they get a woody!
Yes, yes they do...but keep in mind they profile. IE. looked like a middle age professional white guy moving with his family, your probably not going to get any shit as long as you drive like a saint.

Look like a young punk they'll be on you like stink on shit just because of that uhaul...

Yeah you are probably right, as far as keeping her cool I was gonna try getting some dry ice and put it in a bucket near the bottom of the box. Do you think this will help? If im not mistaken dry ice is made of frozen co2 and the plants love co2. so that should be a good thing right

I once drove from Key West Fl to Fairbanks AK in one marathon pull.
Was one whipped puppy by the time I finally got there.
Nice haul, from there it probably took like 15hrs just to get out of FL. I once tag teamed a trip from Tampa to Alberta Canada. We drove 3 days straight, I would sleep and he would drive and vise versa. Shit that was a long trip!

OK but im one of the paranoid ones! I would love to do that but I can think of so many reasons thats a bad idea! My luck I would pick the only cop on this site! :-)

The middle aged white guy is exactly what im going for :) Even thinking of shaving my goatee. Driving like a saint isn't gonna be a problem either because the damn box truck is governed down to 65. Probably for the best considering I have a habit of driving fast

Well after some more experimenting I realized that the inverter was cutting off due to low voltage. Its weird because the newer inverter I have is capable of running the battery down to almost 11 volts without problems but it wont power the lights for some reason. The older one is capable of powering the lights but will cut off at 12.10 volts. Im working on paralleling in some more batteries to up the run time some. Got a test going on now and it has been running for 3 hrs. Im gonna let it run for 10hrs if it will handle it. I am attempting to run a computer fan and one 100w (equivalent) 2700k cfl for 10hrs thats how long it will take me to get where im going to charge the batteries. Thinking of running some 4inch duct around the bottom of the box and filling it with dry ice and allowing the computer fan to pull the air through the tube and blowing cold air out the other side. If anyone else has some advice for me please feel free to suggest it. I enjoy this project because its going to be a complicated task. :-)

†LOL† brother, that is stealth defined, I'm going to be cheering you on. as far as ideas, thought about solar cells? If most of your driving is during the day that could supplement your batteries to help get extended life...

I have thought of the solar panel idea. Unfortunately they are very expensive and dont give a whole lot back to the system. I have one now that is capable of putting out 0.5 amps. Not much considering that the whole thing should pull 4+ amps. Might give me a little bit more but for the price I could have bought 2 car batteries and that would have easily covered me for the duration.

Well my old lady is trying to convince me to cut her down before the move :( She has some valid points for her argument though. We dont have a place to live when we get there and no one I know there has any idea that I do this, so its difficult to ask someone to babysit while I go house hunting. Dont know yet what I want to do. I have continued with my experimenting though. Was able to construct a primitive ac unit out of a foam cooler, 4" ducting, a fan, and some dry ice. Cut holes in the cooler for the duct then ran a fan in the grow box blowing air out of the box and into the cooler then back into the box. Without a light on it was able to cool the box down to 60F. I think I could make this work for the trip out there but dont know what to do when I get there. If you guys have some advice feel free to express it.
