With the Gun Rights movement just like with Marijuana its about the passion for a product and the fear of the government taking away the rights to have that beloved product they so love so much. Just like how so many potheads are so defensive about their marijuana and worship it. Many gun owners also worship their guns like a god. Lots of anti government conspiracies with gun and pot fanatics. Both fear the government is out to get them. Both use them for self defense. Gun owners need their guns to defend themselves against armed criminals. Pot smokers need pot to defend themselves against cancer, aids, ms, glaucoma, pain and boredom. Only guns are a conservative issue and marijuana is a liberal issue.
With the gay rights movement its not about a product but about a group of people. That side has the government protecting them while with marijuana its the government doing the attacking. Gay people suffered mostly from populist oppression where its the religious fanatics violating their rights and the government steps up to save them. With marijuana consumers its the government doing the oppression putting them in jail and marijuana consumers rely on votes of the people through ballot measures to get those rights back. Only similarity is the polling numbers for some strange reason lining up. Liberals and young people overwhelmingly support both and conservatives and old people are overwhelmingly against both and both are shooting up like rockets in the polls at the same time.
The pro life movement and marijuana share the same states vs feds, David vs Goliath battle. Pro Lifers want Roe v Wade overturned. Pot supporters want pot legalized federally, taken off the controlled substance act and off the international treaties. Both have to try and break federal law at the state level to get their way as an attempt to bypass the feds.
Who would you rather see pro marijuana supporters be allied more with?
