More questions about flushing

I am very sorry I do not read that well.
I checked the board and the faqs and I still have questions.

I have not flushed my plants and theyre on a 12/12 lighting schedule. I fertalized once when vegging (fox farm big grow) and once with big bloom on 12-23-09 they have many pre-flowers. My understanding is if you flush the plants 2 weeks before harvest with 3 times as much water then they usually get that it flushes the potentially life threatening fertilizer out of the plant. Would that be good enough? Im open to other ideas to. Thanks Lots in advance

MAke sure you have runoff when you water on regular basis so there is less to flush at the end anyway. But basically yes flushing with 3-4 times the amount of pot should be good flush. Lot of people include Molasses in the final flush

I also think if your in flower start feeding them weekly or every other watering with 1/4 strenth nutes. I do 2 tsp per gal every week with FF tiger bloom. Careful I went gung-ho and did 4 tsp the first week and 3 tsp the next. I burned 1 plant but the other was fine 2 diff strains I think its bagseed. Also get to a bigger pot soon as big as you want to finish in. I just started mine in 5gal buckets and left them there so I wouldnt screw up and shock em during transplanting. This is my first time so I'm no expert

Is it salt buildup.
My last indoor grow (northern lights) had some small salt rock looking things sitting right on top of the soil. Does this mean theres salt down inside the pot/soil also? When you flush arent you trying to flush out the fertilizers youve used? Or is it both. Also it seems like that would kill the plant giving it that much water? And what about all the buds? I was told to flush with 3 times the pot capacity 2 weeks before harvesting and not to give it anymore fert after that. Once again I will be that close to harvesting so 18 gallons of water at once seems like it would make my buds keel over and die. Thanks for your help and understanding in advance.

What soil was used? A lot of bagged potting soils use moisture crystals for water retention. Maybe thats what you were seeing?

Excuse me for being a vague but I spend 40+ hours a week staring at a computer monitor so I will keep this short and simple.

There are two reasons for flushing.
1. To remove excess nutes and minerals right before harvest to produce a cleaner better tasting less harsh smoke.

2. To flush out excessive salts, nutes, chems and beer infused urine (you were skeptical but you were also drunk and it seemed like a good idea at the time) from your grow media to prevent or resolve lock out issues.

Salt buildup is most often a concern amongst hydro and chem fert users because of the use of synthetically bonding minerals and salts. Every time you feed a little more salt is left behind when the plant absorbs the nutrients it needs hence nutrient lock out due to salt build up. Its like ordering a #5 combo with fries everyday and only eating the burger while tossing the drink and fries on the floor. Sure, you filled an immediate craving for "food" but you left a lot of shit behind that you eventually have to deal with. Prolly not the best analogy but if you are as lit as me it may make sense.

Don't worry about the large amount of water, I flush with 5 times the volume of my media. e This is just about the only time during your grow that excessive quantities of anything are ok.

If your soil came with nutrients added then flush two weeks prior to harvest.

If your soil was made of organic matter then maybe flush only one week prior to harvest.

If you want to test your patience then flush one week prior to harvest then wait another week without watering at all to allow the plant to dry out and to help guarantee proper maturity. This is what I have been doing and it works out great for me.

Good luck and I hope I have been of some help.......

the pot is only going to hold so much water so thus all the extra will run out the bottom, the buds are not going to drink up all the water and not allow any to escape. The explanation above is excellent, er make that previous page. Make sure you give smoke report when its ready!!

get a leeching or clearing solution to flush the plants.. a liter of it is like 14 bucks and will last u a few grows.. and it will get all the shit taste and chemicals out of the bud

Please help me out. I started another thread a while back. I said I had been on 12/12 schedule for 1 week 6 days.
Now they have been on 12/12 for 17
I was asking how much sooner do you think ill see bud? And everyone said post pics and now I have and nobodys helping me. Hopefully a kind soul will answer the questions and look at the pics. Also this is an indoor soil grow.

No one has answered you because we can't factually tell you when you will see bud. Do you know anything about the strain you are growing or is this a mystery bag seed project?

It could be anywhere between 7-11 weeks before harvest and then another week to dry and then curing time if you choose to do so. It's just a waiting game until your trichs start get cloudy then you know your a few weeks out.

I really recommend reading the forums a little more and maybe starting here. Check out some of the other members grow journals too. Pretty much everything you need to know has already been posted at least twice by now....you just have to search for it.

Good luck and have fun.
