moldy colas!!!!

So I had an unfortunate mishap that caused me to leave my plants in the care of someone else for their final weeks. I was going to come back the day that I expected to harvest, but a week before that day a power outage forced me to change plans. The second day with no power and I made the call to cut them down a week early...only problem though is it wasn't me. So they were cut and hung up to dry by my caretaker, who didn't trim properly.......and now all the top colas have mold on them. Some are pretty damn moldy. Seems the rest of the plants are fine, but I'm reading all these terrible things about smoking moldy bud and Im starting to second guess my judgement. I have the colas in the freezer in bags (I might as well try first) but wondering if some of the buds on the same plant got that moldy, is it still safe to smoke what I think are the non moldy buds from the same plant???

would making cannabutter with it fix the problem? when you make the butter i would think the mold might be filtered out with the leaves... i dont know for sure but it is just a though.

Be careful with moldy buds, the mold can grow and reproduce in your lungs and cause serious health issues.

Are you implying that if a plant is not "trimmed properly" that that would cause mold?! I've never heard of this before and would like to know if this is true.

Ouch. dude, sorry to hear that shit about the mold n all. First I would throw that shit away. Don't smoke it!!! You can examine all you want, for any of the buds that could potentially be ok, But chances are that your batch contains mold. I wouldn't risk it. I heard the only thing you could do is get oil out of it. Try and search for that shit. Good, luck. PS, remember you only have one set of lungs. DON'T FUCK THEM UP!!!

Water cure the moldy shit. I think that may remove toxins and perhaps wash away spores. If you're still worried about smokin' it, then to the hash machine it goes.

when i have found bud rot/mold on a cola i take all the bud off the stem and lay it out on paper somewhere like an airing cupboard.

after a day or two the affected parts of the bud are dry, hard and brown while the good bud is still wet and soft. I then use a sharp pair of fine nosed scissors to cut that hard shit out until i'm back to soft green bud.

you still lose a lot but at least have something.

I have done this plenty of times in the past with no ill effects, although if you miss a bit you'll soon know cos it tastes like fucking shit.:spew:

Please Dont Do this. People dont understand that mold and mildew is ALWAYS present. Once your seeing it then it means its reproducing.

Man, it doesnt matter how much mold or mildew you scrape off the outside of your buds.....it permeates the weed, its IN the buds.

Water curing wont help, drying and scraping wont help. Unless you want mold reproducing in your LUNGs or other serious health hazzards then DO NOT smoke ANY of your moldy buds no matter what people say "works"

The only "safe" thing to do with moldy weed is to make oil. Even hash, bubble hash, any hash is NOT Safe, cooking the mold/mildew WILL NOT kill it all. PERIOD.

The ONLY safe thing to do is to make oil, the only method I would EVER use for molded buds is Butane extraction. The cold will instantly freeze and kill off any mold or mildew spores, and you only end up getting Pure honey oil Anyway....

Yeah it sucks to lose a crop, but be brave, not stupid.....dont smoke it untill its SAFELY processed.

Good luck bro

I've never heard of cold killing any sort of spore. I mean, if it were true then you could freeze moldy bud and smoke it (assuming you aren't worried about toxins from the mold).

At least with water curing, you have the chance of removing toxins and washing away loose spores.

....liquid butane is just a bit colder then your freezer....you cant get instant frostbite from your freezer. Butane is so cold boils at room temperature...any spores in there would be killed, which there wont be if you have a proper extractor.

 I think you smoked a bit too much moldy bud, you need to do some research

Water curing wont do anything to a bud infested with spores, neither will bubble hash, your gonna have spores mixed with trichromes....

I dont think anything could survive in a pressurized canister of liquid butane boiling and dripping out liquid oil. There are no solid particles in the honey oil anyway, it would just be THC if you dried the buds properly.

Also I just want to say, I would never do this with grey mold (botryitis) just the powdery white mildew. And only if the buds still looked salvageable.

u don't know what your talking about,

if that's the case do you throw out the entire plant when u find a spot of mould?

I also was not talking about 'scraping' mould off but cutting out ALL the necrotic tissue, which is easier to do when the bud has dried for a day or two.

bud rot is two things, first its a bacterial infection which kills plant cells, then mould grows on the dead tissue. with experience you can see when a plant is infected before any mould appears.

also, please point me to the strain of mildew who's spores can 'grow' in my healthy lungs? fungus spores are being inhaled constantly by humans. google 'lung infection fungus'.

The dangers of mouldy bud, as has been pointed out before, are in toxins that can exist in the mould (depending on strain). These toxins can cause damage to the lungs, which in turn can become infected. however, people with extremely poor lung condition and suppressed immunity can succumb to lung infections from common moulds, but it is quite rare and easily treated with a course of penicillin.
