Mold?

Ok so i have just haversted my lowryder 2 a week or so ago maybe a bit longer, grrrr, and yet again my buds are going moldy! I give up with trying to cure this grow now, so i was wondering if the mold can still spread even if you chop the mold off? I was thinking i was just going to let it dry out completly cos i don't want to loose anymore of my bud. May sound stupid but can it be too dry? Can it change the effects if the weed is too dry at all? Like make it less potent? Apart from it being a harsher smoke are there any other downsides? Cheers. :peace:

mm...im not sure how mold works -- but i think the mold spreads by making spores, so i would guess everything is ruined...

what did you do with it when you harvested it? where did you put it immediately, where is it now?

Lack of curing can affect how it burns, it may burn to fast, not enough smoke since it burns more efficiently, and may be useless as far as a joint goes. But still smokeable and it sounds like thats the goal this time around since your alternative is a complete loss. Sorry to hear it, how long did you dry it before you started curing?

Okay, here is the best way to PREVENT mold.

1.) Do not water the tops of your plants once bud colas are developed.

2.) If outside, cover them with a greenhouse film to prevent night rain.

3.) Do not water two days prior to harvesting (let the soil dry out)

4.) Once harvested, cut the main fan leaves off and hang remainder in a dark DRY room for 10 days or so.... branches should start to SNAP. (Save stems and fans for making hash if you wish)

5.) Do one more trim of smaller leaves and add to hash mix box (optional)

6.) Cut buds close to the stem and fill mason jars. (do not pack too tightly). Store in a dark room. (if your jars are sealed the humidity of the room is not important.

7.) Check on your stash every 12 hours or so for the first three days, open them and breathe deeply. this does two things, it mixes the air inside the jar and lets you smell bud rot. Bud rot will have an ammonia smell to it.

8.) After three days you can change air once a day. In two to three weeks you will have some sweet buds.

9.) Repack your stash once cured more tightly. You can now freeze your weed in mason jars for a year or more. It will age like fine wine.

If you have mold, cut away as best you can and repack....keep smelling the stash, that'll tell you. And yes they reproduce via spores.

Hope this helps....

You can't cut it apart and put it back wet numbnuts. Mold spores are everywhere by the time you see jack shit.

Excuse me... I'm sorry.

I mean to say that you are mistaken fellow athiest. He will have to dry it out. Period. You get shitty tasting dry smoke but at least there is still smoke. Don't smoke the mold part it can give nasty lung infections.

HO HO I wish I had a Ho

"If you have mold, cut away as best you can and repack....keep smelling the stash, that'll tell you."

How was I supposed to interpret this? Keep smelling the stash? If it were dry there's nothing to keep checking, mold is dead without moisture. But you said repack you didn't say dry and repack.

Two weeks ago he cut, now he is curing he says. It's not dry now, you didn't say to dry it out. He has to dry it out all the way now.

wat u can do is throw them in a water cure and ull get rid of everything but the weight of ur buds will decrease and so will the taste/smell but u will have more potent buds

put mold in water?

Umm do you have references to how mold won't like the water or something? What happens when it comes back out?

I don't consider 10 days of hanging to be "wet" weed. The mold should be cut off at the first trim. I didn't think I needed to explain that. I mean only a dumb ass would knowingly put mold in a mason jar.....k?
You keep smelling them in any case, so if you missed some, you can salvage the jar, that's all.... wow.

You can't leave moisture in the bud and stick it back in to cure or store. It has mold so he started curing too wet to begin with.

Not worth arguing about. I at least want to argue about something more significant.

I agree.... my post was how to PREVENT mold in the future. He's pretty well screwed at this point I'm afraid.

It is possible to drown the mold as posted earlier. Bud mold is an AIR born mold. It will not survive being totally immersed in aqua. It's probably the only alternative at this point tho....

Thanks, for the replies i already know i fucked up this time round i was just wondering if there is anyway of saving my buds, there was only i tiny a bit i have been checking them everyday so i think i caught it fairly soon. Well i complety dryed it out so now it's all crispy not the best but better than a whole bud of mold i guess! Can i put it back in a jar now? Or will the mold still grow even though my buds are now complety dry? Sorry if it's a dumb question! I don't really want to soak my buds with water unless its the only option i have. :(

No moisture = no mold. Fine for a jar again.

If you like you can rehydrate a little ea day so it's not so nasty but only what you will use that day. Stick it in a plastic bag with lettuce or something in the AM and it will suck moisture up from the lettuce. (Or anything wet really, even a sponge.)
