I'm not saying that it was there to begin with, but there's a good chance it was already forming inside the bigger buds, and you may not have discovered it, which led to more serious growth by not burping jars. just a suggestion. one strain i've only ever had that problem with, i'll be checking diligently around week 7 this time around....

Yeah the mold was only on the outside

I found mold in several of my jars (I had over 75), mostly on the bottom where a bud was up against glass. They molded even when they were left open, so I removed the worst ones, saved the so-so, lightly moldy ones for cooking. The rest I dumped onto a sheet on the floor. I had to dump twice. I now have over dried weed but I had over 20 pounds to process. I couldn't keep up with the jars, it was better than losing it all. That's a lot of weed.
