!$@!$@! Mold in Buds!

This sux! I thought everything was going good, and then i spot mold IN my buds.....fuck!

Ok so these buds have been curing for almost 2 weeks now, they hung dry for only 2 days before becoming bone dry, so i decided to jar em up. I let them sit in jars for 24 hours, took them out 24 hours, them put them back in and have been burping them once a day ever since, until today.
Here is the weird thing that i dont get. Im pretty posative the mold didnt come from curing. Just a few days before i chopped them all down, i waited for them to get super dry. Didnt water them for about a week, and just a few days before i chopped i was inspecting some of the bigger buds, and i looked kinda deep into the side of one of the bigger buds, and i couldnt tell if i was seeing massive amounts of trichs....or mold. Well now i know it was indeed mold, but why the hell was there mold in the middle of the bud before i even chopped it down?

my guess would be your grow didn't have sufficient air exchange...
maybe you need to dial in your temp and humidity during flowering?

ya man i do need to kno that stuff, well i just learned first hand lol. Figured i wouldnt have to worry about that too much cause im growing in an open area but i guess ill add more fans in there for sure.

So what should i do about the moldy bud? I took them out the jars. I thinking maybe put them in the freezer? i think i read somewhere that kills mold. 1 more thing, should i wait awhile to sell it? can i even sell it? im guessing people would be pissed to buy good weed and find mold in it. do i tell them and sell it cheaper. ugggg im stumped

I wouldn't smoke it either...mold spores can easily survive a trip in a common freezer...i think they mean frozen like liquid nitrogen, and even then, i donno
mold spores really like dark humid environments...like lungs.
and before fire ever hits the bud, your gonna be sucking up tons of em

(i'd probably try to extract the THC from the lot honestly...probably not a good idea though)

CHUBBYSOAP's right! DON'T SMOKE OR SELL IT!!! Mould spores will fuck you up.. They best thing to do is turn all the mouldy buds into ICE HASH.. this way it wont feel like such a waste.. n the result will be good to smoke or sell

Yeah mould in buds that are still growing is largely down to high humidity and crowded plants with poor air exchange.

hey don't smoke it or sell it! it is very harmful. you can make hash with it though.
anyway, why you had mold, it's because your humidity was not low enough in late flowering. on the upside though, you have managed to grow thick enough buds that they got mold inside them. yes, i get mold consistently in the thickest buds no matter how well i vent if i don't use my dehumidifier. that's why i always run it 24/7 after 5-6weeks into flowering. never seen mold since i used it. invest in a dehumidifier, worth every penny

If you're having recurring budrot problems, change your genetics. Some plants mold easy as hell, and with others you never see it.

omg i didnt realize it was that bad. ive smoked lots of moldy bud in my day and never bothered me. Well, dam....i was looking forward to making a little extra cash out of this but i guess not. few people are gonna be disapointed. that totally makes sense what yall are saying tho, i had a sog going on, plants very close together, only 1 ocsilating fan on them, but they were in an open area like i mentioned before.
Well you better believe im gonna smoke every bit of it, but what about the smaller buds? They dont seems to have any mold. Would those be ok to sell?

i would say that unless your SURE they dont have mold, i wouldn't sell it but thats just my opinion. you really shouldn't smoke that stuff tho its really really bad for you man

I'm almost 100% sure that moldy bud is the reason I ended up in the emergency room and had to stay overnight cuz they couldn't find out whatwas wrong with me. Seriously almost flatlined when I first got in there and I'm not exaggerating. After hitting two different joints a few times each I ended up passing out and stopped breathing for awhile. Looked in the mirror and looked like death. I liked to think it was the potency of the pot but I've smoked much killer bud than that . It did have a bit of a moldy look to it. Doctors released me a day later and could not give me an answer of why I lookedlike I was gonna die or even why I almost flatlined. Never will I smoke anything that even looks a little moldy . Life is good, mold is not.

Its only just the biggest, fattest, densest buds that are moldy, all the fluffy light ones seem to be fine, thats what ive been smoking for the past 2 weeks. And today i thought....im gonna smoke a big fat bud today, i deserve it. And so as the day goes on, i worked my way up the bud, all seemed fine. But when i get to the very top area, i spotted mold in the middle as i was breaking it up. Ive only inspect 2 of the bigger buds, and they both seemed to have mold in them in the same area, so im guessing all of my big buds are like that I dont want to go crazy and break up all my best buds looking for mold, so ill just assume their all in the same condintion. So i guess the best thing to do now is let them dry out completly and then put in freezer?

i had a similar thing happen to me, years ago when i was just a little guy, i came across some dank ass weed, when breaking it up i hit a purple fuzzy patch inside maybe 2cmx2cmx2cm. i examined it closely and was convinced it was some kind of mold. i took the majority out but i still smoked what looked clean to me, it was one bag, maybe 2 grams. but even the bud i thought was clean WASNT. I had respiratory problems for a week after, i swear ive never had a harder time breathing, like i just ran a mile.

freezer doesnt help. you can smoke the thin buds with no mold. i never saw mold on smaller buds and several times on the thick ones. as i mentioned before dehumidifier is priceless. i'd say just trim away the infected part and smoke the rest. make hash with moldy weed

omg thats terrible! something similar happened to me and now that i think about it, i think the bud i was smoking was moldy. It was my first grow, super lemon haze, and not long after i harvested i went on a lil trip to colorado springs came back and found mold in the jars. such a simple mistake i made by leaving in the jar for over a week with moister. But anyway, i remember i was smoking a joint on the backporch, and suddenly i started feeling slightly lightheaded, light a cigerette buzz or something, then as minutes go by, the dizzyness gets a little worst, worst, worst, then got to the point where i knew i was about to pass out. It was 2 am too, gf asleep in bed, all i thought was, i need to pass out in the house, not outside, but i felt like i was aobut to fallout any sec. so i stumble in the house, made it about 4 feet, fell on my knees, and i sat there for about 5 minutes, and it felt like a loud bass going off in my head going BOOM BOOM BOOM, and i remeber out of nowhere realizing im covered in sweat, then i lay on my back for about 10 minutes and i could feel everything slowing getting normal again. then i was ok, scared the shit out of me tho.

Freezing the buds will not kill the spores.

And I've smoked moldy buds too without any adverse effects, but I will not do it again... Budrot is most likely caused by Botrytis, which is a well known pathogen that's actually desired in some forms of winemaking.

I would try some form of wet extraction if I were you... Preferrably butane or alcohol, but water too in a pinch.

And if you get instantly ill as some of you describes, the mold has most likely produced mycotoxins, and it's not a lung infection but rather a poisoning that's going on.

I think thats a good idea. Smoke what i can and make hash out of the rest. Maybe make some butter? Ill definatly look into buying a dehumidifier. i really appreciat all the info

Almost 10 years ago i punchured my lunge in a car accident(was in a police chase haha,i was a dum kid) and in the hospitol my lunges got staff infection. one of them had a huge something on it and so they had to basically cut off a large chunk of my lunge.

crap i'm not in the states. over here cops are not allowed to chase you except with a warrant. they cannot just go chasing a car for speeding or for not stopping when asked to. there were several incidents where people died in the chase when really they were only dumb scared kids with no liscence or other minor things. it's off subject but i think it sucks and against civil liberties to go chasing cars in the streets, and cops never pull you over, only place you are asked for driving liscence is if you encounter a roadblock and thats it. US is a strict police state imo
