Mold growing on bud in jar, any recovery?

I harvested on the April 30th, air dried for 3 days, and then put the bud into jars.

Now last night I saw spots of white spots on the bud while they were inside the jar. (I think I know what happened wrong, not enough air drying and maybe I packed the bud too night into the jars)

Now last night I dumped them all out to prevent all the mold from growing, pretty much I had only 2 jars with no on little mold was visible.

These 2 plates were the buds with least or not visible mold in the jars.


These bags are were the moldy bud was dumped into.


Is there any way to recover some of the bud?

I'm sure others have more experience than I with this but I got some mold on my purple diesel when curing in jars. I cut off the mold and a good bit of the unmolded bud around it then jarred those buds in separate jar to isolate any further molding. This happened to me about 3 or 4 weeks after jarring. Grew about 10 strains but the diesel nugs were just much denser. I burped the jars for a few extra days and have not seen any other mold. The jar with the buds that molded smells only slightly funky but has not molded at all. This all happened about a month ago.

I can't comment on how safe to smoke it is. Been meaning to research it? Anybody know if it is safe to either smoke, make into butter, do an extraction with etc...

Definitely wouldn't recommend smoking it... Use it to make edibles or tincture instead!

I agree, never worth risking it.

I'd say it depends on your health. If you have a weak immune system, don't smoke it... Otherwise, smoke at own risk.

Out of 7 jars I had, I had 5 jars packed with bud (these were hit hardest with mold), about ~45grams per jar, 2 jars were around half filled up the way ~35 grams in each.

Those two 35gram jars, had the least mold, I saw maybe 1 bud or 2 buds in that jar with mold, are these safe?

What I am trying to do here is recover the 5 jars that had mold starting to grow instead, is there any safe to make with the bud, hash/oil/wax? Anyone know I would really hate to throw out all that bud.

Examine each bud under a microscope. Identify which one have moldy fibers on them, discard.

This way you can toke in peace knowing you aren't going to kill yourself.

I found a gram of last years crop about February ,I don't know why but I put it under ax100 mag to see if I could guess which strain I had found anyway it had mould ,I had no dry weed so smoked it as my thinking was if it can survive the heat of the cherry on ya joint I would need to be one hardy bastard! But it was only a gram.tell you the truth I don't recommend just in case but mould is Myclium which gives of no spores until it produces a fruiting body ,a shroom for instant?im only going on my knowledge of growing cubes.it will tear your heart out to bin it but pls think of yourself n sell it to some prick who's done you a wrong un in the past.i hope all goes well Smudge, ps I could be TOTTALLY wrong about mould being Myclium before I get loads of people putting me right.

I talked to friends and they say make oil out of it.

The bud that started growing mold is mixed with bud that has not started growing mold, they told me pick out the mold bud and toss them, and use the bud that was with the moldy bud but has no visible mold growing on it to make it into oil.

I got about 6oz of bud to use up.

I never made any thing from bud, and want to know how much better would it be?

As several people have already said; it's not worth smoking anything which has been in contact with mold.
The health-risk is just not worth it.

I would agree with Kagecog and make oil out of it, if you were to use Isopropyl alcohol for example you would eliminate any carry on effect from the mold and you would end up with a very nice extract (if you follow a good extraction method).

With 6oz you would be able to get a very nice yield of oil which you could turn into a lot of other different extracts, there are a lot of guides in the extract forum if you are curious.

Mold happens because you put it away to wet. Wait for the nugs to dry before you snip them from the stem. This will make it easier to rehang them after the sweat(s).
I use a beer cooler to do the sweats and when it's done it goes in a ziplock.

Alright I plan on turning as much as I can into BHO, I have never made it before but after watching and reading online I got an idea of to do.

I am just not sure on the purging part, should I get a vacuum purge machine like the ones off ebay?

What I am trying to ask is how safe is the bud after you extracted it with butane, does the mold stay with the bud in the extractor or comes out with the oil?

If you can afford it a vacuum purging machine is a nice addition, you could also purge via a stove top baking paper (heat purging).

I know for a fact that Isopropyl alcohol will kill off the spores and any bacteria, I'm not sure whether BHO has the same properties but from what I've heard BHO is fine to use as well, I would still prefer the Iso though.
The extracted product will be safe to ingest yes, assuming you have extracted, filtered and purged it correctly.

If you think the BHO looks grimy or infested (mold can develop in extracts as well) then just give it a nice Iso-bath and re-filter it through a coffee filter (as in the extraction process), that should clear it right up.
