I made the beans so my daughter could use them to make fresh hummus! She has been using canned beans and I wanted to show her the difference.

I`ve always found owl statues to be good bird scares Mo. Little basts got at my sunflowers last year and I got 2 `owls`, never saw them again ... Gotta hate when nature steals the goodies you worked so hard for, I feel your pain brother

Yay, the wee birdy can fly!!!! Phew indeed......

Never heard of Gabanzo beans, but I like beans in general so I would imagine they are tasty too.

Well today was exciting for me and the cats. They spend most of their time in the back room by the pool staring at the outside that they only get to visit for a half hour each day. This morning they were freaking out because there was a duck in the pool! The cats know that the pool is full of water and they steer clear of it because they hate water. So they could not understand how something could just float around in the pool. And then the duck flew away. They lost it! It floats in the pool and it flies!

Next thing that happened was one of the baby birds in a nest decided to try and fly today. He still has a baby mouth and I thought for sure he was going to get eaten by something out there. I had to keep the cats inside when I did my garden rounds. They were not pleased at all!

During my rounds he just stayed perched on top of the old avocado stump. While I was watering I found a giant caterpillar in the strawberries again :( The mockingbirds birds are eating the strawberries when they start to ripen. I think they are the ones swiping my blueberries too.

The baby bird disappeared for a while and I was sure a crow got it or a cat or... Anyway, I went out later when I heard a mockingbird making a big fuss and I looked around in the area where the mockingbird was and there was nothing I could find. I walked back to the pool and looked around and there was the baby bird just standing on the compost pile. I went over to see if it needed help and it flew away perfectly! Whew :)

Garden is grow fast and the greenhouse is still in the layout and planning phase. I am not looking forward to carrying all of that lumber into the back yard. I need to find some young football players that need some weed :)

Anyway - that's all I've got - oh - I made some garbanzo beans today. Soaked them last night and cooked them up today. Mmmmmmm. I wish I hadn't thrown out the soak water. It would have probably been good to add to the worms and compost or even directly to the plants!

Cheers,
Mo

We have real owls - why don't they just eat all of the squirrels? Why!!!! And you should see the hawks and falcons! One day there was a big bang in the living room and when I went in there the cat was in a chair next to the window looking freaked. I walked over to the window and there was a blue falcon on the ground shaking off the impact of his head on my window from when he tried to get my cat!

I will try the bird tape and owl ideas - thanks guys!

... sometimes house cats may appear slightly more apealing than squirrels ;). Whatever is snatchin`your stuff is good at avoiding attention obviously as they keep coming back for a meal. Let us know how you fare Mo

I have a cousin who married a guy in Scotland. She sent me pictures from Christmas and the meal was six kinds of meat and some potatoes :)

More slugs on the lemon last night. Grabbed them with my fingers - yuck uoowewouehouew. I am a grown ass man and I cant stand slimy slugs! Crunched them with my boot :)

3 more caterpillars on the strawberries and a couple of earwigs on the sangria tree. Baby bird is out there again today. The wind is whipping hard and the RH is 0%. The fires have started in the mountains and this wind is going to make it bad. Fortunately the fog will be back in a couple days and it will all be gray and gloomy. May gray!

Watered the hell out of everything. It looks like the sunflowers are getting ready to bloom. Oh, and the avocado in the front yard is growing huge dark green leaves after I dropped 2 bags of chicken manure on the ground around her. I will get some pics today.

Cheers,
Mo

Tried that last year. The beer kept getting drunk by the animal that is feasting on all of my garden! Fuckers are living better than me.

OHS was having a sale on chicken manure so I got a couple bags and put it around my avocado tree in the front yard. The grass gets watered every day so the poor tree was looking a little overwatered and pale. I figured the water would dilute and break down the manure pretty quickly and it would leach the N into the ground for future use by the tree.

Well, there is definitely some N getting to the tree!

I hope I didn't over do it :)

Cheers,
Mo

I wish!

Nope - I am down in SoCal. Get the ProMix from my farm store. I think the sunshine #4 has French also. They are both products of Canada.
