Mix and Match Crop

Well here we go again!
This is going to be only my third grow but the first two were very educational so hopefully we'll be able to avoid some powdery mildew and some spider mites this time around. I have a 5x5 grow tent set up with a hooded 400 watt HPS, ventilation with inline fan and a carbon filter for the smell. I have a fan going at just the level of the top canopy with a CO2 bag and the little vents in the tent open for some decent circulation that showers my girls with CO2 all day.
I wish I had a CO2 tank in there but I need to upgrade to LED, or a 600 watt at least, but all good things come with time.

I have a Bubba Kush that's nice and bushy, needs a trim today actually so maybe I'll be taking some clones for the first time, and a Skywalker OG that's just a little under two weeks younger. Though I plan on keeping them both in veg for a while so by the time they go into flower the age difference won't matter.

I'm about to increase my population though cause I have 8 little sprouts which is amazing considering those seeds were all sitting in a baggie in the back of a closet for over a year and yet, all of them still popped. I built a nice little enclosed closet with a 4 tier resin shelf, some panda paper, a T8 light, a heating mat and some creativity. By creativity, I mean duct tape.
I know all of those, most of them in fact, will most likely be male since I didn't grab any feminized seeds. But the plan is to watch carefully and cull out the males, so we should be alright. I check on the plants obsessively even when things are all good anyways.
Between the seedlings that turn out to be female and the cuttings I plan on taking off my Bubba Kush and Skywalker later today we should have a full crop of at least 6 or more plants. Maybe 8 or more, we'll see.

I'll try to put up some pictures later today.

Hi Mmj , hope its ok calling you that...

Gonna subscribe to this think you will be starting round about the same time as me :)
check my journal out ....

Get the pics up buddy

Peace

Mmj is totally fine, thanks for checking out my journal. I also happen to have pictures with me right now! Oh yes, so excited!

I'll check out your grow soon as I post these :)

Ok, so hopefully there are pictures attached to this message.... and it worked! Awesome!

The first is my Bubba Kush, the second is my Skywalker OG, then both of them together looking pretty. Last picture is my little baby tray. Unfortunately one of my seedlings seems to be unhappy for some reason, just really weak. Could be just a weak plant but I'm watching closely to make sure there's nothing hinky going on that might spread to the other seedlings.

I did trim the Bubba Kush and the Skywalker, though the former much more then the latter, but didn't take any clones. Went to the store to pick up a taller dome for my tray but they wanted 7 bucks and I ain't made of money over here. I'll just grab one when I go to work, there's a better store right next to me and I can get a taller dome much cheaper. Don't want to crush my first crop of clones- I'd be very sad.

I will be taking clones sometime soon, don't want to let my 2 older girls get to far ahead of everyone else. I'll keep updating as changes happen.

Just a quick inject here-
Had a conversation with a couple of my local pharmacies today about selling the product when I cropped out. Of course I'd give them each a nice sample to try before I expected anything to be bought but it was still a nice surprise.
If I'm lucky I'll be able to help some of the other patients around me here in a few months time. Rather exciting isn't it? :D

I don't have a whole lot to add today, just did a little more trimming on the Bubba Kush earlier. I think I'm going to end up with 5 healthy seedlings, maybe 6 if the one still wearing its' seed like a hat gets itself together, but I think the first two that have really started looking fairly sad may not make it very much longer. I thought about putting them out of their misery but I'll give it another few days before I exact death upon my tiny plants.
I'll keep the journal updated :)

Hey Mmj...

your plants in picture looks really good, pity can't see the true colour try turning off your LEDs and putting a normal light in just to take pics ......

And are your lights close enough they look a small but stretched and have you got a fan on them ?

I see the seedling you are on about they do look poorly, maybe just bad genetics... Have you searched for how to treat unhealthy seedlings on the Webb might get some help there.....

I couldn't kill them .. Be to sad lol .... Just leave them see what happens but if they are going to be taking up room where better stronger plants could be get rid of them and get new seeds soon ....

as as for cutting depends when you are wanting to grow them, I take them right before I switch to flowering.

good going so far and great news about helping out with others....

peace

I tried for a bit to get better pictures but with the room being filled with nothing but either grow lights or green lights, my camera just doesn't like it. Next time I flush I'll take some pictures while they're under the regular lights of my bathroom.

Anyways, I'll be back with updates later, got that job thing

This is my view when I peek into the tent, Bubba Kush on the left and Skywalker OG on the right, with a much better picture that shows the color much more then my other camera. It's sad when a cell phone does a better job against my light then my actual camera does, but we'll just put the camera away and pretend it's still worth the money I paid for it a while back. Haha.

These are my seedlings! Not alot of up top growth but at this time they should be working on growing roots, so it's alright. That last plant finally threw off the seed it had been wearing so it looks like I'll have 6 tiny plants out of 8 seeds. Not to bad.

Hey ,

ALot better pictures, yea am sure your camera will come In handy for something else ..... :o

See you card board markers, What I done was you no the plastic white tubes for vitamins or Parmaseian cheese lol
I cut them in to strips and used them- worked really good and is kind of recycling :)

That's a good idea with the old bottles Stevieh- I just had a cardboard bit out of a packing box and just cut it up to make use of it.

Hopefully here pretty soon we'll be putting up a bigger make-shift tent so I can move those two older plants under a T5 to veg for a while so I can clone off of them and fill up my big grow tent a bit. That Bubba Kush will make a good mother plant I think.
But we'll see what happens.

Just a quick update-
Went in to check the plants just like I do every morning and one of my seedlings went sideways on me. I propped it up with part of a bendy straw and moved the plants a little closer to the light- hopefully this will help out. I wonder if I should get a little fan in there, but I don't want to put tender little seedlings through some abuse just because I don't have a weak enough fan.

I'll keep updating in the hopes that all six remaining seedlings will make it to the veg stage.

I moved the thermometer sensor from the big grow tent where it normally hangs right at canopy level, to into the little shelf I put together for the seedlings to check on what sorts of things the humidy and temperature were doing in there.
At first I had the shelf mostly all closed up with a flap left open at the top for access heat to escape- the humidity was in the 80's but the temperature kept keeping up to 90 or just a little below. Tried taking the dome off and closing up the shelf all the way, but the humidity dropped all the way to 57 while the temperature only went down to about 87 or so. Currently have the dome back on and opened the shelf up all the way to see if we can find a good temperature and humidity balance because I don't want steamed seedlings or anything like that.

I'll come back and edit this post after I see the results of the door-open-but-dome-on experiment.

I've started researching this main-lining technique and I think once I move the Bubba Kush and the Skywalker OG I have in the tent now to the mothers' closet (once I have it set up anyways) then I think I'm going to try training the little plants I have growing from seed with the main-lining technique, as well as the clones I plan on taking from Bubba and Sky.

Here is the line to a very useful thread that gave me some really reliable information about main-lining.

Just read that there (Class link) that's what I seen earlier and explains it well, there some plants aren't they ;)

Cheers

Seedlings are looking good- I'll be putting up some pictures here pretty soon. Starting to have some nice top growth which I'm optimistically taking as a sign that root growth is doing well. They spend most of the day hovering around 82 F or so with a humidity of at least 70% - I moved the temperature probe into the spare jiffy pot in the little seeding dome tray.
Bubba Kush and Skywalker OG doing well too and got a light trimming of the larger shade leaves last night.
