So... I got stupid high on some white rhino X haze last night and i think I have an ingenious idea! So I have a work space of about 17.7-19", w/ lights this is reduced to 15", add a pot or party cup and i am down to 11" 12 if i am lucky. So even with a SCROG or LST that seems way to low. On top of that I am keen to do hydro, not for yield or potency, just cause I like the concept, however it quickly became apparent fitting a res in there that wouldn't need to be filled 3 times a day was out of the question. Here is my potential solution, please tell me if its stupid or if you think it will work also any probs you can think of, keeping in mind this gives me a full 17" from top of pot to lights. Thanks so much guys, happy growing and schematic below.

If you could hang the CFLs so they are both above and around your plants that might be best. Like 1 above each plant and 1 CFL in between to fatten them up a little. A computer fan would be perfect, one going in one going out. for smell you can make a spoof out of dryer sheets and rubberband them to the exhaust fan. Also, if that is tin foil, you gotta rip it down. Tin foil hold heat way better than it reflects light.

Ok, so firstly, no it is not aluminum foil(its an emergency reflective tent lol), secondly there are already 2 fans in there, take a better look, thirdly I am yet to put the scrog in which will act as a shelf for seedlings to put em up next to the light, as well as the lights are at half mast at the moment, ran out of cash before getting last 2 Y connectors and 3 15W cfls (total light = 2x 26w 6500 CFL 1x26w 2700 CFL + 3x15w 6500 CFL = 123w of light in a 1.5ftx1.5ftx0.75 space)
The only feedback I am asking for is about the hydro setup...

Sorry bud but when you directly infer someone has no idea what they are doing they do tend to get there back up, especially when the advice they are being giving is irrelevant to the topic.

Never said you didn't know what you were doing. Sounds like your ego is tied too much into this. Best of luck.

Aluminium foil? classic noob mistake, and yes I do have my ego in this, I am proud of it. I did say infer, as to not directly say. Anyhow this thread has been hijacked by this argument, enough, I just want to know if the hydro system will be ok?

Agreed. Yes it will be okay. Just be sure to clean it like crazy and top it off daily. Smaller reservoirs typically swing pH and ppm/EC more than larger ones which have more solution to dilute into. The maintenance might be high. You might be better with one long res you could probably manage to get flush against the bottom of the computer. THat way your mixing and balancing work is cut in half.

I am not found of pc grow cases but i love what u did. u put the water containers under the case and make holes in the ccase for the plant to grow into the case so u maximize your space. i would suggest to move the cfls over the holes where the plants will be. i really want to see how your grow goes so hurry up :P

EDIT: Hydro is fine but u have little space so u wont have alot of roots but u are nto growing tall either so i would suggest like the plasic coffee cans should be enough space for roots and airstone down there :)

Awesome man tyvm for tips, I had not thought about the lighting yet, but you are definately right, 4" away from plants as I understand it is what you are looking for with cfls correct? originally I was going to do soil and a scrog and sit the seedlings on top of the scrog till high enough, drop them down and use the light sockets with a socket and 2 plugs (you know the longer str8 shape ones) to get them down. Given what I have to work with how would you suggest I rig the lights? I am open to "creative" solutions I am thinking maybe a power bar hanging on a chain inserted into the hook holes on base of power bar? That way its adjustable, I could do 3 Y connectors and have 2 cfls above each pot and 2 in mid. Also the coffee cans I like the idea but maybe a tad to high. do you know what size net pot I would need to grow a plant roughly 16"? From there I can fig out the shallowest container i could use, I do not mind filling res 2-3 times a day, kind of accepted no matter what format or media I grow in its gonna need constant watering at some stage.

well at this point i don't care for nonsensical fighting lemme just see this grow box when its complete i can't wait to see this i've been looking for something like this and have been considering a speaker but 15" is pretty good for auto flowering grow space and with whatever size rez you want this is an ingenious idea

hopefully have pics up by the end of the weekend, depends if I have a hole saw here or not.. If not I may do first grow soil, if thats the case I will do a journal soon.
