Michigan NORML

For anyone who doesn't know about NORML, check 'em out. I had a Political Science class in college and and I had to join an advocacy group... I volunteered with NORML when Medical Marijuana initiave was on the ballot in Ferndale. This is a great organization that has been working on decriminalizing Medical Marijuana for a very long time. I plan on getting back to volunteering with them and wanted to let you all know in case you are interested.

There seems to be problems with the UPNORML, they broke off onto their own private group or some shit. I cannot get any info on anything NORML in the UP. If anyone has info on UP norml please PM me or something. Also any locations to sign petitions I would like to know. If you type in UPNORML it automatically goes to a private website and I haven't been able to get any info about them or NORML. lol. Fucking strange is all I got to say. Anyone affiliated with MINORML that has any insight or info that would like to share publicly or privately, please do.
Great thread Reloca!

NORML is good if you are in Detroit, I have yet to see them any further north than GR. UPNORML was good for a laugh or two when Glasscock was running it, good meds if you could break into the trusted circle. Save your $$ and go it alone and rely on noone.

I've gone it alone. Now that I am legal, I think I will start planning on moving back to southeast Michigan. I lived in Detroit area until I was thirty, this is truly a different country up here. I have longs lists of the pros and cons of both areas. I know of the person you are talking about and certainly have mixed emotions on that. I am more interested in helping others and trying to further legalization. I am in the wrong area for sure.

I wouldn't say I know him, but I certainly know of him. I will PM a quick run down of that. I do not know Mal, and they could very well be fighting the cause and doing great. I am not dis-crediting them or anything, just don't know how people are supposed to get involved up here. NORML used to have meetings in the library, but I guess that is no longer the case.

MiNorml just had a meeting last week Saturday in Houghton Lake at the east bay lodge. i do however think it had to do with the petitions for repeal today. i didnt go to that one, but i hear it was a good time.

It's really disappointing to hear it's like that up north. If you were really interested though and felt like it you could probably get your own chapter going. If you feel the way that you do there are probably others too.... But I know it's a different culture up there. I saw on the website that there were a couple chapters in the UP, maybe one of the other chapters could be more helpful. Anyways, I just e-mailed someone yesterday to start getting involved again so I will post any info I get here about upcoming events and any other relevant information. :leaf:

I have emailed those subchapters. I am a member of one of the subchapters. lmao. Memeber of what? lol. I asked, I got one very vague response that they split from MINORML. Now everyone is entitled to do their own shit. If they got there own club, so what. My question is and was, when I type in UPNORML, it goes to their site, then I ask what their site is and they don't really know, but they split from NORML. They want the site up for others, - who? Maybe it sounds like I am making a big deal, I was going to go to a few meetings and check it out, and found this weird shit going on. Asked a few questions and never got any answers. Honestly that is how a lot of things are ran up here, lol. I'm a city boy. For many people, if you like to hunt and fish, can't beat it. You can get almost double for your meds. Many will read that and get on craigslist looking for property. lol. I've been up here seven years, was wrapped up in a fed case for five, maybe that is another reason I am ready to go back home. lol

I know a normal chapter rep got charged with a felony manufacturing and normal didn't do shit to get him off.normal didn't protect the dispensaries did they. If I were you I would just save your cash like joc said and make your own t shirt.

Yea, I'm pretty disappointed, I don't know what happened to the chapter in my county. I tried to e-mail the "leader" early in the week and no response. I am going to still try to get in touch with a leader at a nearby county and see what I can find out about what's going on. I have been also checking out other advocacy groups.... I know last time I did volunteer with NORML I was pleasantly suprised with how well organized the group was... I just want to try to continue to raise awareness and get people who care involved. Really, I want to go full force and get some good stuff started with or without NORML. Any ideas are welcome! It's a little tough for me right now because I'm working two jobs but I'm trying to use my extra time to do as much research as possible.

People of Michigan we need to stand together! I remember how happy I was when the Medical Marijuana Initiative passed in Ferndale... and then still happier when it passed for Michigan. However, I feel the law is so fragile and I don't want to see the day when my Grandma becomes a criminal again because she smokes weed to help her with the pain of degenerative disc disease (she has a steel rod in her back with a mesh cage around her spine and takes no narcotics!). And it's not just that, IMO Marijuana needs to be decriminalized for personal use PERIOD!

Anyhow, once I get some info about anything valuable we can do I will start a new thread. Now at the risk of sounding so cheesy, I'm jut going to say it, knowledge is power and there are a lot of people out there that simply don't know the benefits of medical marijuana use, and if we can help spread the knowledge we can help this law stick and turn into something better than it is now!

Ok, there's my positive energy I'm sending it out into the universe. Stay optimistic fellow Michiganders, we can do this! :weed::mrgreen:
