Remember Sal Agro!

A Michigan man who spoke out last week about police tactics after an August 25 medical marijuana raid at his home died on Thursday.

Sal Agro, 67, died due to a heart attack, according to family members. He recently had hip surgery, reports Carol Hopkins of The Oakland Press.

After the raids, Agro, a retired GM worker and beloved Lake Orion sports coach, walked through areas of his home to show where police had ripped apart beds and clothing, looking for marijuana.

Several marijuana plants he was growing for medical use were torn out and confiscated by police.

"They had ski masks on and acted like the Gestapo," Agro said. "I don't understand the mentality of it, why they did what they did. I'm lost for words."

Agro said his sons, Nick and Tony Agro, ran the Clinical Relief dispensary in Ferndale. Sal said both he and his wife had state-issued cards that allow them to have marijuana plants.

Sal said his family ran the Ferndale dispensary professionally, and had actually invited government officials to tour the operation.

But when the "tour" came, it was the kind where they kick in the door, wear ski masks, and put guns in your face.

Cecelia Vellucci of Lake Orion said she had known Agro for almost 40 years.

"He was very caring for our children," Vellucci said. "He was always there first to train and guide them."

"He was very friendly, kidding and joking," said Vellucci, whose five sons went to school with the Agros' sons.

"He wasn't afraid to speak up," she said.

A Facebook posting at 2:45 p.m. on Thursday poignantly spoke about Coach Agro's sports background.

"Lake Orion suffered a devastating loss this early afternoon," the posting read. "Our hearts go out to the Agro family and the passing of Sal Agro after complications following his recent hip replacement sugery. RIP Coach!"

"Sal was the best coach I've ever had and my favorite!" wrote Jennifer Chapdelaine. "He will be missed greatly!"

Yeah Sal looked like a real danger to everyone.... This system has to change

I am at a loss for words...

This kind of shit just sucks. The people make a decision for the good of the community and the police and government could care less. Makes you wonder if we will really ever be truly safe. Even if the President himself declared full legalization. Seems like some sections of government will all ways do what ever they feel like. Total Bullshit.

i will be at the protest in ferndale, i think its wed, ill find out more info soon...

He was both small and legal so whats your point?

Sub

he wasnt small, he was affiliated with clinical relief. granted the operation in his bedroom was small and legal he was somewhat involved with the bigger operation (or at least the cops believe so). im not defending the police whatsoever, only defending JoC.

I will leave it but I strongly disagree.

People following laws voted in by the US public should not be subjected to this crap.
These aren't drug dealers but compassionate people.
The number of plants Sal had was minuscule IMO.

i agree 100% and i really feel horrible for the whole family. im sure they were very excited to enter the community and offer their services but im sure they would all take it back now if they could.

sorry for my ignorance, but what is "clinical relief"? I can't believe that they did that for a small number of plants. It sounds like it will never really be legal. I don't think they are that hard on marijuana here, and it's far from legal in my area. It's barely a slap on the wrist.

clinical relief is the name of a dispensary that was raided and sals home was allegedly raided for being affiliated (somehow) with them.

wtf ! the police got tiped off and some one rated on this man he needed the cannabis to curb the pain ! Im sick and tired of the zionest controlled american government !

But it just go's to show right here. That even if that little piece of paper gets signed that it's only law for those police departments that choose to acknowledge that it's a law. Sure it will help. But The Michigan Medical Law sure didn't help this guy keep from being Terrorized by Law enforcement. I read all the time about how places keep getting raided in Cali. Even tho these people are within local law. Legalization is a wonderful dream. Then again so is Freedom. ;)

There is always going to be strife in the world and this guy is not going to be the last person to have his rights violated. Things don't change overnight they progress gradually. When the civil rights bill was passed things didn't change immediately and all of the people that suffered after the fact did so continuing to stand up for what is right making sure future generations wouldn't have to suffer as they did. Humans are stubborn creatures of habit and don't like change. The one thing people don't want to admit to is that they are wrong and the only thing that will change peoples perception is time. The older generations will die out and hopefully the younger generations will understand how their predecessors were just brainwashed to believe things that weren't true. It's sad that as a whole people are simple minded but it's the truth. In the end all we can do is take small steps and make sure to educate people to try and get them to think for themselves. I'm not saying every person is like this just a majority. It's easier for people to fall in line rather than care about something that may or may not concern them. Out of sight, out of mind. Most people don't take the time to worry about or fully understand something that doesn't directly effect them or that is a belief based purely on tradition. The simple fact is it's hard for some people to start questioning something they consider as truth or reality because it opens so many other doors and because of that people let fear control there lives and stay between the lines. What really gets me is these people don't even realize the effect that there close minded mentality has on other others.
