MH lights for rooted clones?

Hey Guys new member here. I'll be starting my first RDWC grow pretty soon using 6 5-gallon buckets. The light set up I have is a vivosun cool tube with a 1000w MH bulb (i'll be switching to the HPS bulb during flower) and a dimmable ballast. . After a brief phone call with my local dispensary I was told that the strain of clones i'm looking for (GG#4) will be rooted and ready to buy by next week. So before I buy them I have a few questions about my light set up.
  1. Can I use the 1000w MH for my newly rooted clones?
  2. Which setting should my ballast be at? 100% 75% or 50%? How many days/weeks should it be at this setting?
  3. Which height is the right height for my light? (Not sure if it makes a difference but its a tube light)

Yes you can use 1000w dimmed to 50% but it is still a wasteful amount of light unless you have hundreds of clones.

I keep my dimmable 600w MH 3' above my seedlings and clones, and for young plants, that is usually enough light.

Gradually lower by an inch or two every day until you're 24" from the tops of your clones and you will be in business!

Happy growing :leaf:
