MH bulb differences: Industrial vs Grow

I'm curious what the difference is between MH bulbs designed for growing and MH bulbs designed for industrial lighting. The industrial ones are much, much cheaper. Are they a different spectrum? Produce more lumens, less heat? Hit me back, cuz I have no clue!

just the spectrum would be different. but then i'm sure different manufacturers use different spectrums from their lighting sources, since most ballasts and bulbs are made from seperate companies you might end up with practically the same type of Mh found in something sold for growing.

that is just a guess, though.

whatever wattage the ballast is, u can put any mh same wattage bulb in it, and it will work.

same goes with both.

Industrial lighting in theory would be designed for a wider spread of light and at a much higher distance to do so. So really industrial lights should be alot hotter. Horticultural bulbs would be designed for minimal heat without lumen reduction. This is only in theory because im not actually sure how manufactures go about deciding on Lumens and kelvins and all the technical specs of the lamp. But thats what you would assume right? Someone should do a side by side test, its the only way to know for sure.

Good call. Who's got the initiative? I'm growing under an industrial right now, but I only have one fixture, so I can't compare. They're growing short and fat though...
