Medicating for Myasthenia Gravis

I was curious as to whether or not anyone here at RIU has experience with using cannabis to help with MG (Myasthenia Gravis; Auto-Immune system disorder) to stimulate both appetite and energy. The most common medication used to treat MG is very nauseating, so one could see the benefits this may have. I wanted to start a threat for any of those (if there is anyone else here) that have this disorder and perhaps start a dialogue about it, to show that you aren't alone in fighting this disease, as well as any other medical benefits (Or negative effects) that cannabis may offer to our immune systems in particular. To those who are not familiar with MG, it can most simply be explained as a particular part of your immune system "short circuits", and begins attacking the neurons of your muscles; preventing your muscles from uptaking protein, creating muscles that weaken very quickly and require long periods of rest for that strength to return. This can be debilitating, and it can be mild, it is a massive spectrum and every case is different. I just hoped I could shed a light on this as I felt alone for a long time. Having a community of others that understand the struggles of this is very helpful, I hope that this thread may accomplish this even if only for one other person. Thank you so much for reading! :)

Ah I see; yes MS and MG are closely related, except to my understanding, MS patients experience pain more severely than MG patients. Just correct me if I am wrong. I'm glad to have someone else in the conversation, and my condolosences as I know MS is a very difficult condition to treat and deal with.

Thx. The pain is sometimes neuropathic, kind of like your nervous system having a seizure or anxiety attack. That is really more unsettling than painful. The main pain is the spasticity oft referred to as the MS band. The muscles in your mid-drift start clenching and at times it can feel like your ribs are being displaced. Other muscle cramping is generally not to hard to deal with like in the legs, feet and even hands.
Your reference to short circuiting is spot on for me to. My immune system has been attacking the protective coating on my nerve fibers (myelin) and destroying it. This creates scar tissue called lesions, which causes the "short circuit". I have some lesions in my brain and in my spinal cord. Science has revealed this can be corrected or even reversed through specific treatment. The two I am focused on are Vitamin D oil and cannabis.
Cheers!

I am finding myself unable to stop gravitating from doing even more research on this. Both my Dad and Grandfather had Alzheimer disease, which essentially is a depletion of acetylcholine. I figured it probably missed my older brother and I since we have consumed cannabis daily, in one form or another, for over 40 years.

I urge you to check out Greenbridge Medical. They have some encouraging articles on trials with great results.

Ciao for now,

Thanks AK. And that reminds me. Since I started eating my homemade cookies with cannabutter (from shake) my gregarious appetite is starting to return. I also no longer experience nausea if I eat in the morning. I start my day with a too strong dark bean coffee and eat a cookie or two for breakfast. About an hour later I suddenly want to eat more. I lost about 7-8lbs over 6 months eating like a bird. My weight never fluctuated more than a few pounds for over 30 years, just a steady 145ish. My Hail Mary is to create 3-4oz of high CBD cannabis oil and shoot for a cure. That will likely cost me north of $5000 which is beyond my pay grade, for now.
Thanks for chiming in.

I am in Ottawa, Ontario. I have been toying with getting a "sniffer" to see how much THC/CBD is in the street pot I buy, but that is still a little pricey. I think in time it will get cheaper like most everything new tech does. Digital scales would be an easy example.

Well, even the lightest sativa's leave me unable to function at any time of day. During the daytime I take Mestinin, and it brings back about 50-85% muscle strength, allows me to eat fine, etc, but has side affects like blurry eyesight and high mucous production. Im in the Tennesse, in the boonies haha. Anyways, I normally start smoking around 9-10pm through as late as 4am, as it calms my nerves and that helps my muscle strength a lot since depression/anxiety causes more weakness than physical stress. Already having anxiety problems, it seems to multiply the MG severity. I do not know the relation between mental stress and MS, but it never hurts to learn info about our problems. I get a bit depressed researching my own disorder, lol. I cannot eat in the morning without nausea or just being disgusted by food. I would be interested in doing a CBD strain and low THC for daytime use though.

What is a sniffer? Haha sorry, a bit smoked out at the moment. I am going to check out GreenBridge Medical asap! And that sounds worse than raw pain to me, have you ever tried CBD oils or something mainly with CBDs and other cannabanoids? It sounds like relaxing your muscles would help a lot symptom wise, or the frequency. I know there is a surgery for me and I may or may not have it idk yet, but that is amazing that legions, if I am correct, a kind of scar tissue, can be made to recede or removed now.
I am sorry for rambling, lol.......

Also Zoic, I think I have heard or read about acetylcholine in relation to MG's cause or treatments, idk for sure might have it mixed up with a few things. Sounds like each cause is a short circuit of some sort, it will be nice when they figure out the causes of these "short circuits" from hell lol.

There are a number of them on the market, this is just one example to give you the idea of what it is.

Not yet. My goal is to make my own but for my hail mary (a cure) but that is going to be expensive since I want 3-4 ounces to do what I feel may work.

I have discovered that making cookies with shake seems to be working. I had a seven day supply and on day two I was almost in full remission. During the two days I ran out I started relapsing again. Now I am on day two of my new batch and I am in full remission. I used shake (trimming from 4 different stains) and there is little in the way of a head high. but the effect on my body is awesome. It makes me feel relaxed and at ease. I stimulates my appetite and leaves me feeling energized. It significantly reduces the muscle clenching. It is a "work in progress"

Check out this page on Leafly for a quick overview of some basic info, notably the effects of CBD (Cannabidiol). Click Here

Wow I just so happen to have a few ounces of dried trim from a couple years ago, very old I know lol, do you think I should make edibles out of it? It isn't very potent trim, but if I don't make edibles then I'll use it for hash but thats a pain. I have always had anxiety problems, idk about you, and I am perscribed Klonopin. I would really love to find a way to mitigate my anxiety in the daytime, as I've been physically dependant on klonopin for years now...I am definitely interested in your methods though. It seems you are producing exactly what I have in mind as a replacement for my anxiety meds. I am curious as to if it could have the same remission affects, even though we have different immune system disorders?
And I will check out the leafly link as soon as I get the time, thanks bud! :)

I decided to check with my wife first. She suffers from anxiety and depression. She did try one of the cookies and said it relaxed her and she did not experience any anxiety which was one of her worries. Changes or new meds often trigger it for her, so I feel comfortable that you should do fine with edibles.

I am going to start a thread with my edible adventures, including cooking instructions for the butter, and my choice of cookie or brownies. Coming to a theater near you, LOL
I will try and get it started tomorrow.

LOL count me in bud! I've literally never even baked a normal cookie before not to mention a special one, so I'm sure the guidance (whenever you start the thread) will be of much help! :) And that is very encouraging for me, as I suffered from both quite severely for most of my life, a non-narcotic relief of my anxiety would be nothing short of an absolute miracle....I have to freak out worrying if I have enough pills to make it from doctor app to doctor app, and it gets old. Tolerances develop...etc. I am also a recovering addict, so that adds another paradime to my situation and another area of treatment that cannabis helps a lot with. Thank you so much Zoic, you have inspired me to try a new avenue of treatment (edibles)!

You are quite welcome. I put up the cannabutter procedure I used already here

Next I will post my cookie and my fudge recipe. Go ahead and make the butter when you are ready, it will keep in the fridge. I really need to find something else for my wife, like an elixir or tincture. She will not do cookies are fudge because she avoids all grains. They exacerbate her fibro.

I want to do the responsible thing here, so as always I checked for drug interactions at drug.com. So here it is:
Code:
Drug interactions between cannabis and Klonopin: Moderate (Moderately clinically significant. Usually avoid combinations; use it only under special circumstances.)
Using clonazePAM together with cannabis (Schedule I substance) may increase side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, and difficulty concentrating. Some people, especially the elderly, may also experience impairment in thinking, judgment, and motor coordination.

May increase side effects, or just seem to because your stoned.

Speaking of INCREASE. After you eat some you will notice you get a little higher than usual. I, my wife and my friend all noticed this independently Just an FYI.

I've been on Klonopin for about 5 years. My MG actually seems to improve after taking my klon, perhaps because of the mental stress relief, maybe it is just an illusion idk. I really appreciate your concern though! :) And I've actually seen CBD Oil Tinctures and vials on Amazon for both human and pet consumption....it isn't cheap...but it's available. Now how this would compare to the effects of your edibles I have no idea. Also, have you ever heard of Kava tea/capsules/concentrate?....It relaxes the skeletal muscles, mildly relieves pain and inflammation, and is 100% legal, pretty cheap, and very safe. It's affects are quite mild but can require large doses depending on the potency of that batch. I used to drink it myself in my addict days to relieve withdrawals, like cramps and body aches. Idk, just thought I'd run it by you!
Thanks though Zoic I can't wait too see your recipes! Ill have to follow you, it would appear that you are full of interesting information lol. Lord knows I need as much help as I can get, haha.
