Medical Card Risks???

I qualify for a medical card, however i am reluctant to go out and obtain one because i don't want any blemishes on my record that an employer can use to refuse me a job. I have read certain gov't jobs do not allow you to smoke, I.E. FBI, CIA, etc. Mostly top gov't jobs. I was wondering if i get a medical card is there any risk in hindering my job scope? For example if you applied to be a teacher? Or applied to work in the private sector would they be able to uncover your past?

Another thing i am familiar with is that one needs to get there prescription renewed. 3 months, 6 months, or 1 year. So if i were to have a card for say a few years, and then stopped smoking...etc are there any stipulations.

Finally i read from someone that you don't even need a medical card, as long as you get a doctors recommendation you can make copies and carry that with you? The state that i live in is california, and i know it won't be difficult to get a card...however i have a phobia of having my life ruined by something i can do hush hush. (albeit there is always the risk of being caught by the 5-0... a risk a lot of us run).

Any serious knowledgeable responses would be appreciated, nothing retarded, "Its the government, they can do anything they want" --- No shit sherlock. Did you need watson to help you with that?

There was a reference to this issue in the 1st season of "Weeds" where that local city guy gets a card, but then freaks out because it will ruin his reputation. Now TV isn't the only place i have seen this brought up...but my friends are oblivious to the repercussions of being a club card holder as well.

Lastly if you don't know, please refrain from posting on this thread, misleading information is worse than curiosity killing the cat.

Thanks for reading this long post, now smoke a :joint: and contemplate on it. heh.:hump:

I see the main advantage of the county or state issued cards are that if you are stopped by LEO's they can verify your recommendation easily and hopefully will not harass you further. As I understand the way it is set up, you are listed or only able to be searched by a number (or something like that) so that LEO and employers aren't able to just search this list by name and that it is not tied to a DL or anything like that.

Otherwise, a good alternative is to find a Doctor that will verify 24/7 if you go to one that does then if you run into LEO's they can still verify and you should be fine. This recommendation is between you, your doctor and dispensaries that you get your meds from.

But like you already know of course there is always the possibility that it can be found out if someone like a Gov agency really wanted to, but they are not supposed to be able to, so if you are planning a career in politics or upper level LEO or Intel that needs an FBI background then I would probably suggest you find another med until the federal ban is lifted, you know.... otherwise I don't think there is much risk.

I guess what I said here is a summery of that link... sorry for the duplicate info... peace

PS. I have only the recommendation with a Dr that verifies 24/7.... thought about the card but I don't know kinda on the fence like you said..
