Just curious on opinions here. Which brand would you go with and why? I know it depends on the specific light vs specific light but let's just say a comparable one from each.

(i have hlg blackbird and effing love it)

I absolutely love my HLGs. Their spectrum is second to none. However I've seen some fabulous grows done under Medic Grow's lights. I'm not sure you could go wrong with either light.

Not everyone agrees but not everyone has been given a fair shake maybe.
I knew I'd finally have lights that weren't going to puke unexpectedly and the TCO was a good thing to figure into the money spent.
I already know that my gear isn't able to complete with the latest and greatest stuff, but I do know my numbers aren't inflated and one thing HLG does do is compare the sphere data from others and the asian stuff is always overinflated. True PAR & PPFD isn't blow up.

It can whip up some trees if I veg em up long and hit em hard in flower but it's not a pageant or competition for me anyway.
:weed:
Straight 3000k (LM 301B & Lumileds 2835HE) and the Rspec FR is going to be the first mixed spectrum of theirs.
More than 60 blurples have gone through these doors and I'm not proud of it either lol
One thing they had in common was they were inefficient, ran hot and I had to put real fans on the MCPCB's and they failed REGULARLY.
I have a few passive cooled asian QB klonez and they will grow flower too but just not quite the way several thousand mid powers mixed up by HLG's will to compare results.

Every interaction I've ever had with HLG (and this is regarding tech help with) questions were answered rather promptly.
Stephen and Co have never steered me wrong and I think you can't say that about most asian fly by nights.

I'd rather: "Buy once, and cry once" has worked out best over the years for many things including outdoor gear and my horticulture lighting.
I'd rather a product last far beyond it is likely to compared to the warranty coverage - driven softly the chips last a bit longer. Just think about all the HLG gear I could have if I wouldn't have just spent all that wasted blurple and florescent money? lol
With only about 750 watts 3456 LEDs in a 4*8 guys will brag up a strip build and it's going to grow some bud but nobody mentions it works on QB's too...
Guess what? It sho' do!

I've also bought enough of the imitation of life cheap crap enough to know the saying: "I regret, and I remember why"...
HLG For Me!

@Budzbuddha I believe has some of the original QB304s IIRC and they also would bring the dank righteously.
He probably still runs them because they're still going and going and going...:fire:

Yep - bought end of 2015 ( first gen with handwritten Vf on board ) - back then you had to request Vf matching boards when you ordered.
LM561c ( 3500k )

I have some prototype 90cri from them and don’t remember the led diode on those ( nichia ? )

Back then they sold COB kits and sold cob rigs too.

I was on the fence about my QB288's at first but the Lumileds 2835HE was comparable with the LM561c LEDs but they were getting the same or better results from them with lower cost.
I forgot I have a sunboard build with 9 strips 3P*3S on a 150w Inventronics driver tugs around 137 at the array.
Works OK but it's no bud stacker.
Over engineered, yeppers.
Hefty ⅛ wall extrusions and 2*2" angle over the backs keeps em from getting too angry and I doubt they really ARE Sammy LEDs lol
Worked OK with 200 w drive but pretty warm with older sink fab. Some where around 175 might be ideal but I would have to change the driver at least and I've got other boards to deploy lol!

I do not believe Medic Grow uses the better Samsung diodes. Please check.

If op is in the US id lean HLG: service and quality and nowadays they have some cheaper offerings aswell.
Especially if youre looking at anything with the Diablo boards, the EVO H is added value.
If you like the UV and far red id just get some bars for that, they have several offerings from kingbrite on alibubbers or in other sites.

Outside US is trickier, figure out who gives good service or build something diy and keep a few spare parts and never worry about warranty: what you build you can repair.

Sweet baby Jesus.. how far we have come since we were all building DIY COBs off the back of growmau5s (and other great contributing members) videos and guidance.

I'm not one for tech and pointless additions but that little controller is sweet.

can’t compare the two as i have all hlg boards. hlg diablo boards will get you that 1000 watt hps bud look, and will do so at cooler temps than most other boards.

never had to rma or any tech issues, but i hear they’re great about that too.

i own two hlg scorpion diablos and i run them in a co2 enriched room and the flower quality is great. i also own an hlg veg pro. the quality of the lights is great, customer service was also excellent when i wanted to purchase i explained to the salesman i wanted to switch over from hps to led and i wanted the cords on the new lights to reach my existing flipbox outside of the room where the ballasts used to be mounted and they cut custom cord lengths to accommodate my existing setup. when i bought the veg pro they forgot to include a cord by accident in the box and i didnt even have to send an email i just phoned and spoke to the guys on the phone and they shipped it out the next day. overall i would take hlg just because of the customer service.
