Media Hysteria ~THC Carts~

THC Cartridges and vaping in general are getting a lot of attention in our society right now. There is a ton of misinformation going around and not enough facts. Which is leading to speculation and generalization about the vape industry.
The fact of the matter is; there are batches of black market THC carts going around right now causing severe lung illness and possibly even a death. Be careful what you buy off the streets!
For all of us DIYers on here, make sure you know what you are putting in your carts. Weather it be liquidizers, terpenes or knockoff ccells, there are a lot of products coming out right now with very little regulation.
Make sure to winterize your concentrate or filter it! Lipoid pneumonia can be serious!

It seems most likely that some sort of synthetic THC or pesticide grown concentrate was the root cause, but until we know more it is all speculation.

Figured it would be good to have some place to post truth and fake information regarding all this craziness with vaping right now! Stay Safe!

Vitamins E acetate looks like it’s causing some of the serious lung infections.. wonder why this is being put into cartridges...

Its being sold (or was up until they all removed the ig act, Facebook, YouTube vids, and being sold and available their their websites.

The companies are or already HAVE deleted all the web pages that had these products listed for sale.

“The three companies that have received subpoenas are Mass Terpenes, an Amherst, Massachusetts-based company that sells Pure Diluent; Honey Cut, a Santa Monica, California-based company that sells Honey Cut Diluting Agent; and Floraplex Terpenes, an Ypsilanti, Michigan-based manufacturer that sells Uber Thick. All three of these companies have pulled its products from the market”

There have been several companies lately that are/were selling "Flavorless" (impossible) terpene extenders
Like this:
https://www.buyterpenesonline.com/terpenes-for-sale/terpene-diluent-flavorless-thickener/?attribute_pa_size=5-ml&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIj-fK79_J5AIVxh6tBh33qg2uEAQYASABEgKhEPD_BwE
This is impossible, this product cannot be a terpene, I will go into more detail in a moment.

Let me rant first...

There are also way too many companies that have been withholding the ingredients of their vapes on the basis that the ingredients are "not toxic" and therefore because they aren't toxic they don't have to disclose them.
This is the result of no regulations.
Not that I am an advocate for strict regulations, but we now see what happens when people are allowed to self-regulate and what happens when greed gets mixed in...
I predicted and I wrote about it here on RIU that due to these companies greed that in the near future there would be strict and harsh regulations because of the companies who were taking advantage.
Now for the first time ever, because of their greed there have been deaths associated to THC...

FUCK!!!
There is no coming back from this!!!
The cannabis industry is now stuck with this FOREVER!!!!
60 years from now, people will be like "but weren't there a few people who died because of vaping?"
All because of GREED!!!

Thousands of years of use and up until now, the only deaths were a couple of college kids who ate some edibles, consumed too much too fast, freaked out and committed suicide.

What do you think the public will remember, that it was some random chemical in the counterfeit vape that killed these people or that it was a "scary THC vape" that killed these people.
Let's be honest the general public are fucking idiots who only read headlines and do not read any further.
TL;DR...right?

Ok, general rant done...
Now onto the flavorless terpene rant...

The reason these "flavorless" terpenes cannot exist is simple science.
Terpenes are aromatic hydrocarbons (VOC's) so when they stop smelling it's because they have evaporated.
Yet these companies claim their products are 100% terpenes.
Terpenoids maybe, but not terpenes...
Tocotrienols and tocophenols (Vitamin E) is a terpenoid.
So this is probably what they have been using, not to keep the vape from turning dark, or as in tiny amounts as some preservative, but as the bulk liquidizer, because it's cheap!
So when these companies began using this crap, I was totally against it and I bitched about it here on RIU, though at the time I suspected the "flavorless" terpene were derived from olive oil or MCT oil and I predicted that the reason the companies didn't disclose the ingredients was because whatever it was, it was probably something very cheap and easily purchased.
I have also warned people to not be guinea pigs.

So, where does this leave us?
Well, now the US congress is contemplating banning ALL flavored THC based vapes.

It's step backward for the cannabis industry!

Because now any movements forward will be tarnished by the deaths...

So we can basically kiss federal legalization goodbye for the next 40 years.

While the ban hasn't passed yet, I am sure some form of this ban will pass and in the near future (congress time so perhaps 2-3 years) there will be regulations on the vaping industry as well.
Which is exactly what the people who did this don't want.

None of us do!

So their greed caused the very thing they claim to not want.
Instead of being honest and making money honestly (and slowly like it should be made), no they had to be greedy and now people are dead and the rest of us are now going to have to conform to stupid regulations.
Which if they hadn't been greedy, wouldn't be necessary!

Ok, I am done bitching about it (for now)...

I notice Mr. Extractor (D.B. as CONNOISSEUR CONCENTRATES, LLC) has also removed several of his products
#46 Drew’s Earth
#47 The Thickener
#48 The Flavorless
#49 The Funkifier

Also they removed the product "Clear Cut" but I don't have the number for that one.
#46 - #49 are still listed on the terpene page but not on the price list page.

The companies owner Drew Jones has taken it upon himself to "double down" and defend the use of Vitamin E...
Wow, that won't bite him in the ass later, will it?

This is greed...Pure greed, these companies were charging $120-$200 for something that costs $18 (retail).

Now there will be bans (besides Michigan's) and more and more regulations...
For the next several years this will be the national debate, instead of legalization...
Yay, for the whole industry being set back about 40 years...

I knew this was going to happen...

I tried to warn people...
