When the description of a strain reads say...24%THC...what does that mean? 24% of what exactly? Sorry for a Q that may be obvious to many.

So is there a formula somewhere to determine final % if one was to make an oil or butter if one knew the % in the bud etc?

% is expressed as parts per 100
If you had bud that was 50% thc, and you added 10 grams of bud to 90 grams of butter (dilute 1:10), your butter is now 5% thc. Every cookie you made would be 5% thc. Does that help?

Say what? No, every cookie you made would be what ever portion of the butter was for the total weight. And it wouldn't be 5% butter either because you wouldn't get 100% of the the into the butter.

Nope, a cookie the size of a dime would be 5% thc and a cookie the size of a frisbee would be 5%. Sorry

I think it is a percentage of dry weight.
Hi Guys,
I've often wondered the same thing. Merlin...I don't believe your idea is correct. That would mean that if you had an ounce of bud...that 20% by weight is THC? The little thc molecules are created in the trichomes and there's just no way that there is that much THC present. You could get all of Peoria high with one ounce.

I believe it's actually quite esoteric and mostly relates to % of cannabinoids.

Grams of weed x percent THC x .75 for loss during infusion x 1000
Divide by volume of butter ( oz, Tbsp, tsp etc)

Example:
21 grams of 20% weed in a pound of butter (1 lbs = 32 Tbsp)
So (21 x 0.20 x 0.75 x 1000)/32 = about 100 mg/ Tbsp

This will give you milligrams per whatever unit your using.

When I make oil or butter I make it overly strong. You can always add less to your recipe.
When I bake I work backward from the number of servings. Say you’re making 60 toll house cookies (Yummm) and you want each cookie to have 25 Mgs. Then you want to add 1500mgs. If each Tbsp of you canna butter has 100 mgs then you add 15 tbsps. As it turns out the recipe calls for 2 sticks that’s 16 tbsp so there you go.

I don’t know, every Cannabis testing report I’ve ever seen was % weight.

I don't know Merlin...that theoretical ounce at 20% would make 58,000 standard 1mg pure thc doses. Just doesn't seem right.

I quote " So the measurement they make is a percentage by weight of the oils in the sample, not of the overall weight of the sample."

This is from another forum post that includes quotes by Richard Mullins, DEA.

I honestly don't know at this point...
