McCain's Integrity
10 Sep 2008 01:40 pm

For me, this surreal moment - like the entire surrealism of the past ten days - is not really about Sarah Palin or Barack Obama or pigs or fish or lipstick. It's about John McCain. The one thing I always thought I knew about him is that he is a decent and honest person. When he knows, as every sane person must, that Obama did not in any conceivable sense mean that Sarah Palin is a pig, what did he do? Did he come out and say so and end this charade? Or did he acquiesce in and thereby enable the mindless Rovianism that is now the core feature of his campaign?

So far, he has let us all down. My guess is he will continue to do so. And that decision, for my part, ends whatever respect I once had for him. On core moral issues, where this man knew what the right thing was, and had to pick between good and evil, he chose evil. When he knew that George W. Bush's war in Iraq was a fiasco and catastrophe, and before Donald Rumsfeld quit, McCain endorsed George W. Bush against his fellow Vietnam vet, John Kerry in 2004. By that decision, McCain lost any credibility that he can ever put country first. He put party first and his own career first ahead of what he knew was best for the country.

And when the Senate and House voted overwhelmingly to condemn and end the torture regime of Bush and Cheney in 2006, McCain again had a clear choice between good and evil, and chose evil.

Yup he says it all in the last paragraph.

"McCain has demonstrated in the last two months that he does not have the character to be president of the United States. And that is why it is more important than ever to ensure that Barack Obama is the next president. The alternative is now unthinkable. And McCain - no one else - has proved it."

There is no question that O'Bama used that pig reference to make an impact. He may have meant it as a joke, but he said it so his audience would make the connection to Palin's reference to lipstick. Listen to O'Bama again. Notice the pause after he says "you can put lipstick on a pig .............. but the pig is still a pig." Is there any question that his audience didn't make the connection? If you have a question about it ... why did the audience laugh during the pause? Its called "comedic timing."

Here's it is said another way: If you put lipstick on a donkey ......... its still a Jackass. :bigjoint:

That's a wise Republican there, that Andrew Sullivan. (Wow, I never thought that phrase would be typed or spoken by me!)

The Lipstick on a pig comment was taken out of context Vi. What was said was continuing with Bush's policies was like pitting lipstick on a pig... If Palin is going to take it personally, well if the shoe fits.
McCain is just being Juvenile over the whole comment.

Not the first time McCain's seemed like a petulant child. When one of his stooges got asked a question he couldn't answer (despite initially implying that he could), McCain cried like a baby and cancelled a Larry King interview. 'Waaaaa, they're pickin' on me!' I don't think he's ever quite grown up and become an adult. I was more of an adult before I turned 20. Maybe that's why he picked a mommy figure as his VP. Along with Cindy, he's got two moms now, three if you count the one that gave birth to him, FOUR if you count Karl Rove. If the White House were South Park, he'd be Butters. 'You're grounded mister!'

Cindy McCain reminds me of a Helga Figure... You know Riding crop, High Boots with spiked heels, leather and a military type cap.... You know, your basic S&M type :D

With all due respect, Dankster ... I call bullshit. And as of this very minute, I don't think Palin has made any comment at all on the controversy.

Say ... you're not supporting O'Bama/Biden are you? Yikes!

I'll support the candidate who takes the least juvenile path to be elected....
So you figure it out.

But I will say that either way the election goes, we are fucked as a country.

Where do you call bullshit Vi? If the shoe fits ware it.... She shouldn't take it personally.
I know you would vote for McCain because he is the lesser of two evils, But realize this, If you go with the lesser of two evils, your still laying down with evil.

Rumor is, Karl Rove is considering joining the McCain campaign as a senior adviser or something. Oh yeah, change is coming. Year 2004, here we come! Er, waitaminute...
