Mars 300w half off?

Hello everyone,

Been looking at buying or building a new LED light, and I stumbled on the Mars lights on amazon. They're currently half off, and I cant really find any information as to why. I assume it would be them phasing out the original series and moving on with the Mars II lights or something.

Anyway, with the prices pretty low I wanted to see what the community thought of these lights. They any good, or should I just save up and build my own cree setup?

I have a smaller Advanced LED fixture, and an 8 bulb t5ho light currently. Id like to move strictly to LEDs though, unless I can figure out a way to fit everything in my space xD

How would you go about picking the cobs for your build? Is there an "ideal" mix you'd throw together, or any resources you can point me towards? I always get overwhelmed looking at the CREE site, not sure which type (ez, GaN, RT, ect) of lights to get.

Ideally id like to light up a 4x4 area like the sun lol.

Ill start sorting through that haystack here in a bit :) ill find that needle eventually!
There is plenty of help to be had. The kit options currently available really simplify the build. Also there are many diy'ers that have built rigs for 4x4 so you can easily find a template to work from.

This ^

Just picked up 3 cobs + a driver and holders for just under 140 shipped via cobkits.
How? I was asking the guy at Cob Kits for a specific set up in a forum he was posting on. He did not answer and preferred talking about tech minutia. Another guy in the thead asked essentially the same question I did. May I ask what you ordered?

Unfortunately most conversations about COBs consist entirely of tech minutia.
I wish I could point you in the direction of one thread or guide that would cover it all. But all the threads here are like 100 page monsters.

I went with citizen 1818's plus the hlg-185, and ideal holders. I'm gonna run them on cpu coolers I have here. I already had some 18ga marine grade 600v wiring from another project, so that's getting used as well.

For bloom you want 3500k. Cree has cxb3590 36v works great you can buy a kit with 8-cxb leds with mounting heat sinks driver all in a kit from plc cutter and a few others. I think 8 cxb at 1050mA would yield pretty good maybe even 10 cxb. Peace

Thanks Vegas and Bubblin, everyone heres been a huge help. I feel like Im looking in the right direction now, so all's that's left is to save up the cash and toy with a configuration until its time to order.
