Marijuana to treat Alcoholism

I have been using marijuana for quite some time now to battle a long struggle of severe alcoholism and it[MJ] has been the only thing that has ever been able to turn me right off the booze. This, in essence, saved my life. During my years of alcoholism my life was spiralling out of control going from job to job, relationship to relationship and losing friends and family at a ridiculous rate and depression, stress and anxiety hit me hard because of it. It seemed like I had hit rock bottom with no way out, no light.

It wasn't until a very special someone showed me the healing powers of Marijuana that I realised that there is SO much more to life.
Since I started using marijuana therapeutically about two years ago I am nearly completely dry with no signs of a relapse or anything of the sort. I have a few drinks here and there but I always have control. Not only that but I am now in the longest running job I have ever had and the longest running relationship. Marijuana turned my life completely around and I feel better than I ever have in my life, LITERALLY.

Of course all good things have to come to an end sooner or later and my "source" disappeared. So, like any person who needs healing and no longer has access to it I went to see my doctor to get a "prescription". I told him my story of how marijuana turned my life around by not only getting me off the booze but opening my mind up to enjoy the wonders of our life in so many ways. I went in with high hopes and they were soon shot down by the complete lack of interest by my doctor when he heard the word "Marijuana". He fed me the typical bullshit line about how the guidelines set by Health Canada wouldn't allow it.

I know for a fact this is a load of shit because there is a specific form, Form B2, (which I brought to the appointment) for people who do not have MS, a spine injury, a spine disease, cancer, Aids, HIV, arthritis, epilepsy or that are terminally ill and in severe pain. This form looks identical to Form B1, except for instead of having boxes for the above said conditions there are just two paragraphs, one for "Medical Condition" and another for "Symptoms". My doctor continued to feed me these generic lines about how he could not sign the papers and how no other doctor in town would.
This is clearly ignorant nonsense and I need to know what I can do. I live in Southern Ontario and I didn't know if anyone out there in Marijuana Land knew a doctor who will sign these papers somewhere, anywhere in Ontario.
Any help would be greatly appreciated even if you don't know of a doctor around.

Just any support, advice or comments would be great.

Seems like that might be a lot to read if you are stoned so let me summarize for those who don't care to hear my story.

My doctor says he cannot sign my medical marijuana papers because marijuana is not used to treat alcoholism. Yet, marijuana was the only thing that got me, and has kept me, down from over a half decade of poisonous, destructive boozing. I have lost my source and need to be able to get my papers to do this legally. ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED. I live in Ontario so if you know a doctor with an open mind it would be great if I could find out where to go.

:peace::peace::peace:

marijuana helped me quit smoking cigarettes almost 10 years ago.

true story!
Thanks for the reply. Marijuana helps me not smoke cigarettes when I'm at home but unfortunately at work I cannot toke to relieve. Its good to hear Marijuana helped someone else overcome a poisonous addiction.

I know I'm probably barking up the wrong tree considering most people on here are probably from the States but I am still desperately looking for some answers.
Please, any help is appreciated. Mainly I am looking for a doctor in Ontario with an open mind, but any suggestions would be great.

Junk I suppose is heroin. Pretty uncommon term in my neck of the woods.

Why not just grow it yourself? I mean screw the doctor and screw the middle man, grow your own medicine.

Yes, "junk" is slang for heroin, hence the term "junkie". A buddy of mine just got through Paroxetine withdrawal by smoking weed. It was the only thing that worked in the many times he tried.

Such a rude word.....junkie.....

Your buddy shouldn't be smoking weed if he is on an anti-depressant. Paroxetine (Paxil) is one of the worst medications ever made.

Great Topic !!!!

Some people ignorantly look down upon this as just switching one problem for another while missing the big picture .... The inevitable Addiction caused by alcohol versus a casual fondness for MJ

I've got one word for those people...methadone.

To the OP I'd try to find another way around the problem. If your condition does not qualify according to laws in your country I'd try to find something else that does. I know you're not trying to scam here but personally I'd do whatever it took to get my card if the alternative is being an alcoholic.

Best of luck to you

I have grown it, but I'm tired of feeling like I am breaking the law to stay healthy. I also can't run the risk of being busted, I have worked too hard for what I have and I can't have it taken away from me over a plant.

I don't plant to buy from dispensaries (especially since the nearest one is Toronto and that is far and I loathe Toronto) so will be saying "screw you" to the middle man. Thanks for your support.

You are absolutely right. He should be smoking marijuana INSTEAD of taking an anti-depressant.

Yes, some people use the term "treating like with like" and my doctor said the worst one "the lesser of two evils" and these arr the most ignorant statements to make when comparing marijuana to alcohol. Alcohol is physically, mentally, socially and psychologically destructive. Alcohol leads to violence, dangerous/deadly driving, social and domestic domestic disputes, liver poisoning, stomach ulcers, depression, anxiety... The list goes on and on and on. Marijuana, on the other hand, conquers many of these "issues" by letting the "user" to see into their problems in a different light. This is sometimes all you need to be able to get through problems and obstacles in life.
To compare the two with "like" is to shit on everything factual and reasonable.

Methadone is a terrible, terrible drug. Its just one step down from heroin. I would suggest opium over methadone.

No scam friend, i don't need to scam. I can grow illegally, and I have, but I'm tired of breaking the law because alcohol is more "accepted" for some really fucked up reason.
I want the government to recognize that I use Marijuana to help myself overcome alcoholism, but that means they have to accept the fact that alcohol is, at every angle and aspect, a more dangerous drug. Period.
This is a huge step for our government officials to take. Essentially they would have to accept they [past governments] were wrong about making marijuana illegal and keeping alcohol legal. I think I might be fighting a lost cause but that is why I am here trying to find some type of support. So far the people here have been as much help as they can and I appreciate it.

Thanks all.

I'm not in highschool or college and I have no co-workers, so its not quite that easy. Also, i need a source that is reliable and has the right stuff. And to grow illegally is to miss the whole point. See here

You missed my point when I said methadone. Someone said people say you're just replacing one addiction with another...which just happens to be a very accepted medical practice as far as addictions go and methadone proves that...

Anyway, your original post sounded like you were just looking for a way to get your card so I suggested doing whatever it took (as far as telling a Dr. what problems you have that WOULD qualify) but now you're talking about something different.

Don't get me wrong I applaud you in trying to make such a big change in CA.'s policy for MMJ but I think you're looking more at the role of activist if that is really what you intend to do. Getting "a" doctor to sign your papers is not really going to affect the change you're looking for is it.

Either way my friend I wish you the best of luck!

Sorry if you took what i said wrong, I understood what you meant, thats why i stress how dangerous a drug methadone is. How the government will give an addict methadone, a horrible drug, to treat another horrible drug, but wont give a good drug[marijuana] to treat a horrible drug[alcohol] is beyond me. Pure and simple ignorance.
I fully understood the sarcastic comparison you did there, it shows how the medical community is an absolute joke, ESPECIALLY in Canada.

I started thinking about it and i do think i am going about it wrong. When i really thought about it hard and thought about why i drink and why it seems to help at the time and why i feel marijuana helps me more i have come to the conclusion that my underlying condition is depression and that is what has lead to the alcoholism. Marijuana helps me cope with depression which makes me not feel the need to drink.

I think seeing a "head" doctor might be a better idea. my physician doesnt know jack shit about a depressed soul. I dont know if a psychologist can sign my med papers but if not I'm sure I could get a "letter of reccomendation".

Does anyone know anything about getting a pschologist/therapist to sign "med papers" or at least getting a letter of reccomendation for your doctor?

So does anyone know the governments "policy" for using MMJ for treating depression?
American or Canadian, it doesn't matter, i have a fealing the policies are fairly similar.
Any help would be great

Thanks again all

I am more interested to know if marijuana is commonly used as a treatment for depression. I also need to know if i need to see a "shrink" to either get him to sign my papers or get a letter of recommendation to my doctor so he will man up and sign it.

Does anyone know if a "skrink" can sign my papers?

Any help is greatly appreciated:peace::peace:
