i know males can spread their pollen quite far
question is how far
i do want to collect some pollen for later use, so killing male isn't an option
as title says, male will be in a room with door kept closed
rooms are about 15 feet apart
female in another room with door open, but in a closed grow chamber
male is also in a closed grow chamber
+rep for anyone with experiences

well pollen is very light and can travel far with only wind..so you could do it fine just make sure you wear like a coat and take it off before entering the other room

yeah, that's pretty much what i had in mind
planned on showering after working in there, and changing clothes
i think his will be good, but actual breeder's experiences are the best info, +rep for look and suggestion

thanks romano, i've been reading up as fast as i can, the male popping up took me off guard a bit
from what i've read, it can vary quite a bit, generally the dryer the air, the longer it stays viable
if you use a mist bottle, you can 'decontaminate' pollen coated surfaces
anyhow, may have found a better method, cut off branch before the flowers are mature
tie a clear plastic bag around the branch stem, put stem in water
this will supposedly get you some mature pollen contained inside the airtight bag
planning on taking it outdoors to transfer to some storage containers

I would try that thing with the plastic bag that you just mentioned maybe you could take a cutting and try to root it with the plastic over it kind of like a ''pollen dome'' instead of a clone dome

'pollen dome', you should trademark that ;)
that is not a bad thought though
I've never tried to clone a flowering male before If it works well let me know. The concept of cloning a male flower but keeping it contained in a dome could be very useful in breeding it could greatly reduce the amount of space needed.

i probably won't take it back to veg, just going let it set by a window and hopefully continue flowering
but i see your point, that is useful to a breeder
actually, this could be standard practice, nirvana is known for their purple male skunk which is used in a lot of their crosses, makes sense this might be what they do

I wouldn't try to take it back either to veg either waste of time if your just trying to get some pollen, I think the main part of getting this to work would be pinpointing the appropriate time to take the cutting, If it is standard practice I'm happy I thought of it also just means I'm on the right track, I wish I had the opportunity to do a full scale breeding project

the more i think back to some breeder logs, i remember accounts of putting males back into veg
they watch for unstable characteristics in males, just like females, female traits can show in a male reveg
my breeding reading has been pretty sparse so far, but i have seen how important the male is for breeding, seems the male strain is really big in determining latter generations potency
this seems to what the big time breeders have, chosen males that they keep, presumably by revegging
nirvana has its purple skunk, cannacopia has a deep chunk male(i think)
