Making Ice Hash Without The Bags - Update

I shared a bit ago about how I'd bought a $50 set of hash bags and got discouraged because I could see most of the resin glands
going to waste. I did the ice and cold water mixture and used the hand mixer for 20-25 minutes just like I was going to use the bags.
I turkey-basted 2 ounces of juice onto a 12" x 16" flat glass microwave plate and let evaporate. At this point the only difference between
me and the traditional bag method is that I am evaporating the water instead of straining it like the bags do. It takes close to 24 hours
to evaporate 2 ounces of juice down to dust. So I went to the thrift store and bought 5 more glass plates and started evaporating. Took me
2 weeks to evaporate the 1 1/2 gallons of juice I started with. I used some of the juice also as tea every day.

After 2 weeks I ended up with about 5 grams of blonde hash dust. I started with about 2 ounces of smokable trim. On the surface it seems
that making hash from smokable (sellable) pot would be a waste of money. HOWEVER -- the hash dust goes a looooong way. I sprinkle a tiny
amount on the top of a new bowl. The dust itself is so fine, like talc, that it falls through a regular pipe screen. That little bit of homemade
hash makes a regular bowl feel super-charged! I have been "dusting" 5 or 6 bowls a day for 3 or 4 weeks and not even used up half a gram.
After giving away a gram and a half I have an eightball left that will take care of my personal use needs for months.

Evaporating is a lot of work but so are the bags. One advantage to using the bags is that the finished product is in a familiar form. The hash dust
I made is more like baby powder and harder to use.

Good luck, BigSteve.

rw --When you run your first batch with the bags notice how much of the ganja juice gets wasted.

Hey, here's something I figured out that may be of interest: mixing time matters. The first trichomes dislodged by the
mixing process are the best and most mature. Translation -- if you are lazy like me you can run the mixer just 3 or 4 minutes
and reap only the cream of the resin glands! It's like shaking a fruit tree, eh? The most ripest fruit is first to fall. So you can
quit mixing after a few minutes and still reap more than 90% of the fruit.

Thanks that good advice. I was reading Matt Rize thread and he subcool makes his that way," Subcool uses a silver spoon and mix for 3 minutes." Well I run leaf and trim first and check it out. Thanks for info....rw

don't buy the cheap bags they suck! the real good bags to buy are really expensive but worth it so spend the extra $$ a good set is going to run you $100-300 depending on bag size and quantity of bags

I think the Dry Ice method would be less time consuming with the same if not better results. Theres pretty cool videos on you tube. What you do is get a 1 gallon bucket, dry ice, cuttings and your hash bags. Take your cuttings and place them in your bucket with dry ice, take your bag(up to you which one) cover the bucket to where your screen covers the opening of the bucket tightly. Let sit 5 -10 minutes turn over and shake vigourously over a tray or mirror and in a few minutes you have a nice pile of blonde hash

Yes, do the dry ice method! It's 10X easier than ice hash and you really only need one bag I've found.
