Making Hash

What do you guys think is better for making hash from popcorn bud and sugar trim?

Water extraction or Dry ice?

If it is water then I have a question. I have been watching a lot of videos online and its about 50/50 on technique. Some people put all 8 bags in a bucket and start that way and some do it in a separate bucket and pour the water in to the bags when they are finished. Which is better? Or does it not matter?

Also, from what I been seeing it seems dry ice extraction is superior. Has anyone done this? Is it correct in assuming it is quicker and better?

Thanks for any help

There is good and bad about both. The dry ice is way easy and much faster then bubble bags. I think the bubble has better/stronger taste and for the most part better high. But I doubt i'll ever use ice and water again.

Man I dunno I made some with alcohol about a month ago out of my trim and popcorn and it turned out great. Came out about the consistency of caramel. I'm not much of a hash connoisseur but I'm guessing that is the least favorable way to make it?

I think with alcohol it's an extract. you get a bunch of stuff from the plant along with the trich's. not bad just deferent. If you can Find a 200 micron bag or work bag in bubble terms. that's all you need for the dry ice method and a big piece of glass or something hard and smooth to scrape up the keif. Mi first batch went into a baggie ran under hot water and pressed by hand. worked ok'ish pollen press works better. the one that looks to have black in it is a mix of bubble and sco2e haha or dry ice hash. The other is pure dry ice.

Haven't went that small yet. So I can't answer. I do see threads where they use 100ish micron. So i'll use the work bag til it stops working then move to the next one and see how it works. I want to find 100-200 mesh stainless Steele. and glue it in a 5 gal bucket w/lid and make a shaker bucket. I checked the dry ice under the trich scope and saw nothing but trich's. in the bubble hash saw 2-4 maybe 6 trich heads on a piece of leaf. But I think the dry ice just frags the leaf and it turns to a very fine powder. Like I said tho, I only saw trich in the scope. around 40 power to hard to see stuff for me at 60.

does it matter how fine the weed? should i grind it up or will a quick cut do the trick?
If you're making dry ice I wouldn't worry about grinding it up. By the time you shake it a little the dry ice will will break it down, just make sure whatever you're using has been dried.

Why is a work bag 220 micron used for dry ice hash over the smaller microns like the 25 or 73?
i plan on doing my first dry ice run sometime next week and i've been reading all about it. from what i gather the smaller micron bags actually end up with more plant matter in the finished product due to the fact that the herb has become so pulverized by the dry ice that the actual plant matter fits through the mesh. with the smaller micron you have to shake longer and the weed gets really powdered.

i'm going to run mine through a 160. i'm hoping that's a sweet spot. it's for personal use only so i'm not going to go through all the mess of resifting through a smaller micron. if people are getting acceptable results with a 220 i'm hoping a single run through a 160 will be just what i'm looking for.

you'll love the way it works. we played around with how long to shake. there wasn't much change from the first to last stuff out of the bag. might be a slight color change but the scope showed pure trich's even at the end.

I love this method, makes nice kief you can heat press etc. The problem isn't so much the micron size, but rather how long to shake. Even nice bud turns to dust very quickly, and when the plant material sifts through it makes for chlorophyll tasting kief.

So would sifting the finished product through a smaller micron get rid of the extra plant material?

I didn't try it. What ever is there seems to be a very fine dust. Can't see it with the scope. Seems to get just the slightest green color.
My buddy said something about running threw the ice bags and see what happens. don't know if he ever did it.

O.K. Has anyone determined which size bags to use...I see 220, 180 & 73 being used the first try/shake...I have a 15+ WW harvest coming up in the next 2 weeks and wanted to try the Dry Ice ...Can some one tell me what size they used and maybe why they started with that first size and the end results.....Thanks Rick

Hello...

I picked this trim box up on the internet....The top screen is a SS wire mesh at 160 micron
Tray #2 is....140 micron
tray #3 is.....107 micron
tray #4 is......70 micron

I take my dryed bud trim and break it up with the wire basket....then I build a fire in the wood stove until it feels dry....then it is like panning for gold.... then I put the ground up trim back it the wire basket and shake it over the trim box a little at a time....

I think the thrid box down is the best quality....When I am done I go out to the shop and use my press and press it into a brick...

here's pic's
