I have a large 1000w hps bulbous shaped bulb that I will be replacing soon. I want to dismantle it remove the filiments and turn it I to a nice terrarium.

Any suggestions on taking it apart? Such a nice looking price of glass.

dont even try it it will explode in your face. the bulb is under presser and if you try to take it a part it will blow up. It is called a HIGH PRESSER SODIUM bulb for a reason.

I am aware of the danger. I was going to cover it with heavy cloth and put a protective housing around it, wear gloves and a glasses.

I was hoping someone had done this before. Offer some suggestions on getting the metal base off. I may tape it heavily and Dremel it off.

Drill throuh the base and stick a screw driver in their and bust it up. It doesn't blow up. Wholesalers require you to do this when they refund a store for a bad bulb.

Cool. Thanks. I will post pictures of my mini terrarium when it is compleated. I may keep the metal base on there like your picture and get a spare nonworking socket and use that to mount it horizontally midway up on my window sill.
