Deer, moose, bear and recent bobcat sightings out by the hen house.
Unfortunately they are clear cutting the land above and beside us. So the animals are fleeing the devistation. I believe that's what drove the bobcat down to us.
Exelent hunting and fishing.

Yes there are a lot of set in their way people around here. But we are not all bad. Actually a lot of real good people here.

No. I tried to buy it last yr. But the banks don't want to loan money to hippie dope growers. So we switched our filling to farm..other. instead of farm medical marijuana. Luckily they didn't pull all our notes, but honestly they couldn't. (To many accounts to call in)
The guy that bought it is just wants to harvest the land then sell it. He's been sitting on some lots for 5-10 yrs. I've already spoken with him, so I'm still going to get it.
And when I do there will never be another harvester on this mountain again, even after I'm dead.

When I first moved to OR in 1975 I had some biker buddies with cubensis shrooms that were vac sealed in 3lb coffee tins. They were nice and mellow, weren't near as potent as the local liberty caps we would pic in the dairy fields. 10 to 15 fingernail size shrooms would fuck you up. They all tasted like shit didn't they.
I'm 64 now and don't have the desire to trip any more, but you sure got my memory goin..
Yeah I'm 43 but I still like to do them once and a while. Keeps me in sync with mother nature and reminds me of what's important (like family).

Plus there's nothing better then shrooms and sex. (It brings out the neanderthal in me)
Shrooms have saved me thousands of dollars over the years.

Back in the summer of 84 or 85, I was living on the farm and cutting a couple of yards. Stayed on the river mostly. Had lots of free time, but rarely had beer or smoke money. But that was the best year ever for magic mushrooms. We dried a lot and even sent a couple of pounds of them to NOLA in a weed for shrooms swap. We also tripped a lot. I was not long home from the Navy and used to window pane, and was drinking a lot of the Electric Cool Aid as we called it. Got a little too much and did some serious kidney damage. Being broke with no insurance, I had to stop doing what made it hurt. Right away that was to stop drinking tea. Being a true southerner, I drank close to a gallon a day. Not any longer. That shit would fuck me up so bad. Sick to your stomach type pain. After one time I learned what was causing it, and I stopped.

So a year or so later I notice a six pack of beer is starting to hurt. Also if I have too many sodas. So I cut back. When it hurts, it hurts like hell, so I learned the warning symptoms. It got to where a couple of beers were hurting me, so I all but gave them up. Just drinking one a week. Same with sodas. But because of my cheap ass friends, I was still buying a six pack a week. Back then I had a taste for the dark German beers, so that was 6-7 bucks for one beer you could say. When I got to thinking about it, I didn't ever buy another soda or beer. That was about 23-24 years ago. Lots of money saved. Not to mention all the corn syrup not drank.

These days I drink nothing but water and coffee. Haven't had any kidney pain in years.

I have seen the good and bad in tripping. You don't need to do it if you anything heavy on your mind. I have had pretty bad trips just picking up off the vibes of the folks around you. And I've seen several folks who had pretty well hid emotional problems have them come out for everyone to see. A young man kept yelling "where's my Dad?" as we floated down the river filled with weekend tubers. As soon as we saw one of his close friends at a landing, we got him out of there. He seemed fine before the Electric Cool Aid.

We don't have much real hardwood timber around here. It's mostly planted pines. But lots of wood land is selling. A 40 that was in the heart of my grow opp sold this year. Old family land, so it hurt both ways. Losing it out of the family, plus it making my other patches much harder to get to. After years of it being empty, looks like some sort of camp is going in. Some rich guy paid too much for the land. Hope he is too busy to come around much. Also hopes he runs some spigots out to the edge of the woods. When given lemons. . . . .

It's great that the housing market is coming back. But the only way I'm going to get back into building homes is if I have the money to build them out of pocket. 90% built, A,B or C package through a realitor. Meaning chose your flooring, cabinets, countertops and fixtures. I still have all my equipment from my construction company. The worst part of the job was always dealing with the people, always wanting changes and wanting to nickel and dime you to death. That's why a realitor makes a commotion let them deal with the assholes..!!

As for out of staters buying up land goes. The worst part of it is that they move here to get away from the hell holes they live in, then try to make this place just like the place they left. No respect for Maines culture or Maines waterways. I realy hate the ones that move in then associate the road they live on blocking folks that have lived here their whole lives from fishing that pond or section of river. You can't own a body of water or its contributory and you can't land lock sections of land, it's against the law. Then they wonder why all their windows get broke out or worse when they go back to Mass or Connecticut.

Federal government shouldn't control large sections of land within any state. Look at what's happening out west. The federal government is evicting people off federal land that they have had permission to use for generations, with no reason. You watch they'll sell it to the highest Fracking bidder.
I understand why the women did it. 2 reasons actually. (1) To preserve wilderness land in Maine for everyone to have access to for generations to come. (2) Legacy. Let's face it we only live for so long and are soon forgotten, unless you do something great or realy stupid.
The problem with it is she went about it all wrong. She could of negotiated with the state government. Which most likely would or did turn the offer down due to the financial obligations that would go along with it. Or she could of set up a trust foundation to over see it. Then the trust would manage the land and its resources.

It's always been about money and legacy.
Maybe someday we'll grow up as a society and start doing things because they are the right thing to do and stop keeping score..!!
But I doubt I'll ever see it.

We have those same kind of folks move into NW Florida. They start off with, "we used to do it so and so back home." A common response is, "well, move back home."

As far as the fishing and swimming holes, we went through the same thing a few years back with timber companies leasing their land to hunt clubs. Cables and locks across roads I have been using for 30+ years.

The fellow who built my house also built a house on 10 acres of his land and lived in it two years. Then when he sold it, he didn't have to pay Capital Gains tax on it. He sold at least 4 houses this way over 10-12 years. Like you, he also got out of the business for a few years. He's back at it now though.
