Maine Outdoor 2020 (first timer)

Took the last remaining plant down yesterday--weather report looking rough the rest of the week including snow so I didn't see the point of waiting a few more days.

This last Chinook Haze plant was the biggest of all. Only found 2 very small spots of budrot on the whole thing.

Will report back with the yield when dry but check out the drying line--almost ran out of room:

Can't complain about the results this year, especially for a first-timer. Guess I got lucky with the weather and certainly benefited from lots of help on the forum--thank you!

The flip side to this success is I'm in Trimming Hell right now. And I'm running out of mason jars which appear to be unavailable anywhere. Does anyone have a source for these? Don't really want to resort to ziplocks.

Will report back later with final tally on yield plus some images and tests of final product. Will be interesting to see how these 5 different strains work as medicine. Anxious to start making some infusion oils and tinctures.

Stay well everyone. I'm glad I took this on...timing was right this year. Thanks again for all the help. Enjoy the fruits of your harvest.

Good job, Farmer! Mason jars are scarce everywhere this year. A cheap alternative until you can get more are oven/turkey bags. They’re airtight assuming you seal them properly. And they hold a lot of bud. Don’t use ziplocks or any other typical plastic bags. They’re not airtight and your buds will dry out. Gamma screw top lids for 2 or 5 gal buckets is another option.

Just found some 1/2g jars on Amazon...said they had a few in stock but we'll see if they actually ship.

5 gal buckets from lowes with a lid work great. I use 18 gal totes with a good tight lid.

True dat I use huge jars. Been harsh times over here so not been able to say much, but disaster struck. I can post more soon in a week or soon. Hope all curing and drying went well with you @NewEnglandFarmer
Sorry to hear things went south. Fill us in when you get a minute.

I'm just getting the last plant trimmed and jarred up. It's been hanging for about 10 days. Be a relief when this is done! Excited to start making some tinctures, oil infusions, and maybe topical balm or two.

Crazy warm weather here in Maine right now--72 degrees here today. Bizarre for November.

Stay well. I'll get some pictures of the final product when done.

Finally got some weights now that everything's jarred up and curing:

Tomahawk: 1 lb. 12 oz.
Orange Blossom Special: 1 lb. 2 oz.
Copper Chem: 1 lb. 1 oz.
Cherry Wine: 1 lb. 6 oz.
Chinook Haze #1: 2 lb. 13 oz.
Chinook Haze #2: 1 lb. 2 oz.

Total 2020 Yield off 6 plants: 9 lb. 4 oz., or a bit over 4 kilograms.

Way more than I expected but then again being my first year I really had no clue.

A whole lotta mason jars to store--the bigger Chinook Haze alone plant filled up 17 half gallon jars!

Time now to make some tinctures, oil infusions, and balms. Going to be a long brutal winter with the pandemic surging again, having some good medicine on hand will certainly be welcome.

Thanks again to everyone for all the help. See you around the forums--I'll be hanging around to discuss curing, preparing various medications, etc. Lots to learn!

Here's the Cherry Wine harvest--excited to check out CBD for the first time:

Here's a shot of a Tomahawk bud--need to work on my bud photography skills--will trim up a few sample buds and try some sunlight shots.

That's what happens when you go in the ground and end up with 10 footers! I'm sure if I was more practiced at topping/fimming/training and had a little more afternoon sunlight the yields would have been even bigger.

No complaints though--way, way more than I can use. Aiming to donate a bunch to vets. if I can find a way to do that legally here in Maine.

Interesting postscript: my wife, who has always been deeply skeptical of cannabis, to her credit did some reading on medical uses and history and is genuinely interested now in medicinal uses. Turning point may have been the documentary film "Weed the People" which profiles some kids with cancer who's families used cannabis to help fight tumors. Really amazing stuff. I don't think THC will be her cup of tea but I'm betting she may find the CBD in the Cherry Wine strain useful for insomnia, stress/anxiety, inflammation, etc. Hoping to make my first infused CBD coconut oil this weekend.

Remarkable how quickly peoples' attitudes are changing these days.

So what I was going to write previously was about the fact we had scheduled a harvest day and driver but my partner took the driver for another errand. Got another driver 3 days later and all died from mold. I lost most of my plants but still got just under a 1000gs. What I've found is I need to use early strains this far north as the buds don't increase much in size when temps drop. For being north of 60 latitude was pretty amazing at all that we got a November harvest. The first harvest buds have cured and burning white ash and very strong. This should last me until next year's harvest (even at my consumption rate haha). I have alot more interesting stories to tell about this fall but I'll still leave it for a later time.

Overall growing at northern latitudes is amazing because of the abundance of light in summer. Unfortunately the light is not strong in the fall so it suffers in harvest weight. Early strains would thrive......as well as having reliable transportation ;)

Sorry to hear about the mold issues, that's a bummer. But sounds like you at least brought home enough to keep your personal supply stocked up.

They should have a strain for you called "Midnight Sun." Maybe "Chilkoot Haze." One that flowers early and finishes up quick!

I think I got lucky on that count this year with my Greenpoint strains.

Stay well.

I'll check it out. Also later can post pics after Xmas. Take care and have a great holiday season!

I was kidding--no such strains that I've ever heard of. Just would be a cool idea for early-finishing strains. I'd buy seeds!

Maybe you should cultivate a new strain up there yourself...
I did get some beans from Columbia :) but yea I am gonna look into some Danish breeders as I've seen massive early strains even though they're to the south. I also heard Early Cindy and these types do well here.

Cherry Wine, the CBD strain, looking nice after 6 weeks of curing in Mason jars. Buds on this plant weren't big or fat, but there were lots and lots of them--one of the bushier plants I grew (topped twice which helped I'm sure). Aroma is subtle compared to the other Greenpoint strains but nice: spicy and forest-y, if that makes sense.

Tried this before bed the other night (tincture)--first time trying CBD--and very relaxing effect. Kind of like that warm feeling when you first get out of a hot bath in the evening. After this f$#&?!#$ pandemic is over I'll fire up the Vapor Brothers to sample the full flavor and aroma of the flower.
