Made it to the end of the first grow

I made it :)
2 plants from 35 year old bagseed
20"x36"x72" tent
SCROG (a sloppy one)
CFL lighting - started with a few ended up with 14 and 2 UVB's
Organic soil and feed and I probably didn't feed often enough
Lots of fuck ups on my part
Bout of fungus gnats and thrips

My original grow thread is here: https://www.rollitup.org/t/old-dude-newbie-looking-for-knowledge-my-first-post.909671/page-1

I really appreciate any and all that helped me on that thread and a few others I posted.

I started 2 seeds in dirt one I knew had about a 95% chance it was from Thai Stick I got in the 80's.
The other had to be some from same era but as they grew one thought to be Thai looked very much like a sativa and the other more like a indica as they grew.

Tonight I trimmed up the smaller plant thought to be indica plant (see images) and the Thai has another day of hang time to go.
I used RM3's boil method to finish and I have to say everyone's description on the outcome is spot on.
Drying a couple buds I clipped from each and I was able to sample smoke after they dried and no hay-lawn clipping taste at all.

The Indica didn't have much of a taste but it is amazingly smooth I can take huge hit like I am a teenager again. Really dense hard buds, it has some taste just not strong enough I can put my finger on it. The high is very clear, like I can remember where my keys are and all that but has a very calming effect. Couple more hits and I got that benefit where things that would normally make me cranky didn't exist. I was in the grocery store line with people talking politics and the overhead vent fan had the rhythm of Golden Earing's "Radar Love"
So that was enjoyable playing in my head still as I walked to the car. It is in a jar now and I can only imagine it will only get better and reveal more in time. So I can't say for sure it is an indica, probably a hybrid.

The Thai tastes like lemon on intake and sorta nutty on the exhale and I only sampled a little bit as it has taken longer to dry and it is in my opinion a "trip weed" like I remember from the late 70's and 80's. More airy buds lot more sugar leafs.
I took a good pull from a bong and it was one of those hits I miss where it feels like something starting in the middle of my head and just cruises out to my limbs. It hit me fast and I sat there looking out my window at the sun reflecting off the doorknob on my garage. And that old brass bastard was fucking shiny. Few minutes later I started laughing at what I don't know and then the perma grin set in. I haven't had that perma grin feeling in years. Just to clarify for the last few decades I smoke roughly 1-1.5 grams a day depending on what it is so I wasn't smoking after a long hiatus or a lightweight occasional smoker. I am excited to see this dry and cure the rest of the way because that is my definition of "high" and I fucking love it.

So far the small plant gave me 36.9 grams trimmed bud and 22.9 grams of sugar leaf and buds smaller than a marble. I expect it to drop a little more weight in time, it is fairly dry now. I handle it all over a pollen catch and I see a lot of keef building up so I got that too. The trimming and tiny buds are all going into edibles.

I will followed up with weights I get out of the Thai plant.

If any newcomers happen to read this I will say this from my experience and observations throughout this:
I am 50 I have been around weed since I was 12, smoked, dealt, went to the concert, got the T-shirt etc.
But that means fuck all to growing.
I have ate a lot of bacon in my life too but I don't know shit about pig farming.
Sure I was around growers, watered a few as I was waiting for my bag to be weighed out but to get on the path to doing this right have to forget the ego.
I know why I like weed and what I want from it and I tried to learn to grow to achieve what I wanted.
With that in mind don't make it a contest for yield or bragging rights you will only step on your dick -see ego.
Learn the basics, go read and learn some basic terminology and at minimum understand basic plant science.
There is a lot of info here, a shitload of opinions, and shitload of people growing fine cannabis so sort it out for what works for you and realize what worked for one may not for the other.
Read for a month before you ask questions
Don't sprout seeds until you have got some education, set up to grow properly or you will be plagued with problems and trying to catch up to what you plants are doing, avoid being in the position where you are responding to your plants instead of nurturing them.
If you ask advice don't challenge it.
Pay attention but don't smother your grow with love - let it grow
Never post asking "how much" and make Google your bitch.

That is about all the advice I am qualified to give at this point, gimmie a few 10-20 grows and maybe I will know something about pig farming.

Very Nice. Nothing like smoking your own hard work and dedication. Best smoke ever.

Very Nice Work There, I am proud of you, whats next?
Moondance
I have a couple nice clones from each plant on deck thinking of doing 4 under the scrog instead of 2.
I can start off with all lights this time instead of adding them throughout grow cus I am sure that influenced my yield as well as my learning curve.

I thought about that but I sorta want to try this scrog again now I know a little more and have better lighting. My scrog was as sloppy as it could be so I plan to clone again and might try a no scrog the 3rd time. Right now I have some time to decide, cleaning the tent and sterilizing it all.
I am a amateur radio op (ham radio) and electronic hobbyist so I just finished a arduino micro-controller project I did to monitor soil, temps, humidity and co2 with a readout and I may make it bluetooth accessible so I look at from my phone. Once I get it into a proper box I will post in the DIY section. I have a lot of 30-35 year old seeds to play with for years but at some point I think I would like to buy seeds and try something specific. I live in legal rec state so weed is not far away about 12 hours a day but after my test of what I did it will be harder to buy any.

Haha, I love this - cracked me up reading it. Been there, haha. I like your style! Congrats on a nice grow, and good luck on the next to come :clap:bongsmilie
Thanks It was seriously fun to be that high again, today was sorta the same as I did stuff around the house - I know I smoked something good when the kids box old legos stored under the stairs starts to catch my attention and yes they are out now all over my office. :)

Thanks all - Heck I got a notification I won a trophy too LOL
Feel like I won an academy award or something - Id like to thank an oppressive childhood, catholicism, Jimi Hendrix and the hippy that lived on my paper route for inspiring me to try cannabis in the first place.

Well I got about 1 oz of decent bud from the Thai plant but the buds are super fluffy and airy.
Real pain to trim.Tons of tiny buds that were somewhat more compact I know more pure sativas can be very airy. Might be an argument for growing it a different method.
I ended up putting loads of small buds in my sugar leaf pile which ended up at almost 3 oz which is just fine since I love to make edibles and that added bud is added fun to the edibles.
I sifted my keef a few times through my silk screens and pressed 1/2 gram puck, still see some green in it but I will stash for something someday.
I am thinking that I might just do the other plant's clones and skip the Thai.
I don't think I can do the Thai justice in my small tent so I will donate my clones to a buddy and let him give it a go.

I currently have a test batch of the bud/shake mix in some coconut oil on the stove.
Been a few years since I made edibles and not sure what I will end up making later.
When I used to make them regularly I started packaging them with a home printed label for fun when I gave them out to friends.
I had a Trailer Park Boys theme (if you are familiar with show if not this won't make sense)
I made a chocolate no bake type and called it "Rays Driveway"
Also some bar cookies with graham cracker crust and chocolate and butterscotch chips on top called "Samsquanch Bars"
There were a few others I need to find my old box of recipes.

Made me some coffee cake muffins 1oz of sugarleaf/popcorn buds to 1/3 cup of coconut oil.
If I start making weird posts in about 3 hours or I don't post at all for days assume they worked.
