Ok, if any of you guys live in canada I'm sure you have come across a strain called M39 I will not even smoke the stuff if I can't find anything I hate it hands down, but I have never seen a breeder that I deal with or realy know of anyone who grows it but yet its always around all the time no matter what, so what I am asking is where did this strain originate from and or who is the breeder the myth/story around here is that it was government test weed for the canadian government and they couldent grow for shit and a few locals picked it up for its impressive flowering time of 39 days and this not an auto strain it has been around since I was in grade 9 high school and itts still around to this day, anyone who has grown this strain or has any info on why its is so absolutely shitty I would appreciate it, I have no plan on growing it and don't realy know why people do other than for commercial purposes, thanks RIU happy 420 stay lit.

i was gifted m39 from a canadian fella , nice plant , ignore any government reference or 39 day bullshit , its a product of outdoor growers banging pollen together with plants that they know will finish before the frosts thats all
ive feminized it and have about 10 of them on the go as i type ready for a bit of uk outdoor action this year

Ahhhhh yes, M39. I first heard about it in the 90's. The large weed delivery service in Montreal always had it. My friends that went to McGill loved it but they were only 19 so what did they know. They were broke students and probably loved the price more than anything. It was (and stil is) all over Ontario in the 2000's and is unaffectionately known as Chinese Weed, given that many groups of Chinese growers seem to prefer it. M39 is the only strain I've heard people say "it's not M is it? I'm not buying it if it is." and I've heard that statement countless times.

The reason why it's so shitty if you buy it on the street in Canada is because Chinese gangsters grow M39 in warehouses to be sold as commericial grade. That means they grow it quick and push it out into the market. I'm sure if someone were to have some patience with this strain they could have some very decent stuff.

M39 was developed by the SSSC in the early-mid 80's and has been grown in Canada as a clone only since that time.

It and a few other commercial cuts have a bad rep because of shitty growers and resellers pumping out garbage and shipping it to anywhere that will take it, but the actual cuts when grown properly and finished fully are actually pretty nice..

I believe M39 was Basic 5(northern lights)x Skunk... looks fairly narrow leaved. . Was used outside I believe too back in the day.

Rez made a cross with the cut and it was regarded as super stank good weed... but if you feed any cut excessive PGR's and cut early, handle wet, machine trim... you end up with poo garbage... same as the "legal" weed...

Why are you bumping a thread from 2013? The question was answered in the first reply.

I actually appreciate his recent reply. I smoked and sold so much of this crap as a kid, I never really had any interest in researching what it was until now, over 20 years later, after several dozen successful grows and never ending up with such junk, rofl...I had no idea why it was so shitty and why it was called China bud, I might even consider attempting a proper grow with a 2 month cure to see how good it can actually be lol. I haven't seen anyone sell this in Ontario in over 10 years.

I've been smoking weed and paying attention to the names for quite awhile and never heard of m39.

The worst I ever had was referred to as 'Mexican Ditch Weed' but my most hated strain ever is Pink Kush. No matter where it comes from, it never does shit for me.

Oh man you are missing out then! The Pink Kush here in Canada is probably one of the most dank strains I've ever smealt and most potent I've ever smoked! I've grown it also as my first grow ever 6 years ago and the weed turned out picture perfect and was so strong and tasted delicious! I remember getting some of the most potent medical quality pink kush by the pounds that would get you high just sticking your head in the bag! 3500 a pound for that shit! Will blow your mind. My friend tried it for the first time and 1 bong load and she litterally blacked out and hit the ground.

M39 from my experience seems to have been harvested earlier than it should have been when it was going around, giving it a really bad taste and racey high. I think if it were left to flower to full maturity, dried properly, and cured for some time, it might be alright...

39 days bud? Clearly those flower times came from the breeder. Thats probably why your not getting high.
Lol I think that was meant to be a joke...? I couldn't ever see 39 days being long enough...I think it was pulled early though, probably like 7 weeks flower at the earliest. Those buds were sooo rock solid from what I remember, it just tasted like crap, smelled like tea, and I found it to be a week, anxiety invoking high.
