lumen vs lumen

will there be a big diference if i go 432 watts of fluro's at 40,000 lumens or 400 watts of hps at 40,000 lumens. will the fluro's of the same lumens closer to the plant still have decreased yields? what should i go with? first grow, dont really want to deal with venting an hps if i dont got to, got a nice closet that can do 6 plants in 5 gal buckets. growing for weight, thanks

The fluoros won't be able to beat the HPS, not for flowering, or final yield. During veg, the fluoros would work great, but, they just don't have the light penetration that the HPS does. For example, you might get nice bud development on the top 6" of a plant with the fluoros, whereas the HPS will give you good development to around 12". That doesn't mean the yield will be twice as much, but it does mean that the yield will be larger, probably 40+%. Also, I have a light meter, and the HPS is putting out light 7000 lumens at 12" distance, whereas T5 fluoros won't top 5000 LSF,(other types of fluoros, are less intense) even if the meter is touching the bulb. That means denser buds, which equals more yield. The HPS wins, hands down. :)

lumens have about as much to do with it as iraq did in causing 9/11.....

its all about the PAR, IPAR, and APAR
google it, and learn

I agree too, but, that wasn't the actual question. The question was....will fluoros compete with HPS, lumen for lumen? No.

It is like the difference between having a bunch of teenage girls with pillows or mike tyson... Sure, the girls are cute and fun but MIKE TYSON WILL KNOCK YOU OUT!!!

It is about the intensity. Yes, you can blanket a plant with CFL's and grow a pretty nice plant or you can throw a 1000 watt HPS and have everything within 3' grow freaky dense nugs...

Your choice.
