if you are veging you should invest in at least a 250watt metal halide light, or just a good t5 florescent set up, im using the 4ft 8 bulb units. When you are ready to get into flowering switch the lights to high pressure sodium at the same time you switch the light schedule.
hope this helps, if you use crappy light you are gonna get crappy plants.

Heating lamp?

There's no place in the grow room for a heat lamp. McDonalds, sure, but don't aim those things at living plants.

Don't use incandescents either, if you are. Those are basically another name for heat lamp anyway.

put the heater far away enough from the plants so its not condensed right onto the plants, prob be a decent idea to have a small fan blowing sideways onto the heater to disperse the heat more mildly and yet evenly through out the grow room before it gets sucked out.

i have a galaxy ballast.. it is made by sun systems pr "sunlight supply" .. its working great so far.. , i just wanted to post a much more recent review on these ballasts now that we are close to 2012. One hydro store here in town sells lumatek and the only garantee they can offer on ballasts for a defective return is they will give you an old magnetic ballst to use while u wait for the company to repair you'rs.. sounds iffy right....I have a galaxy and i bought it from the other hydro shop and they said if anything goes wrong with it in the next 3 years.. i get a new ballast handed to me. that is how much these guys value there customers. and are confident in galaxy ballasts. this is an insurance thing they have set up with sunlight supply,. its a 3 year warrenty. and then 2 years pro rated which means if you want it repaired you have to send it in and theyll analyze weather the unit just failed on its own or it was mishandled etc... all i know is lumateks are bluish purple colored and im not digging it..my galaxy is a nice green color.. it has a large dimming knob in the front that sais.. 259. 175.. 150.. and HQ which i think is like 275... this knob is bigger then the lumatek one and its located in the front where it should be.. lumateks knob is located in the back.. probably to detour people fromd dimming it while the lamps on.. you're supposed to shut the HID off before you dimm it . and unless you relaly need to hot start the lamp its reccomended you wait about 10 minutes before refiring it.. i really like this lamp so far and will probably stick with them as long as it holds out for a few more years..i personally think 3 years is a totally good lasting lamp.. and it may last even longer then that.... i only paid like 150 or less for it... I want a 600 watt just to save for future better grows lol... the 600 dimms to 400 and 250 as well they are so cool.honestly the dimming options are amazing.. if ur garden gets too hot for a couple days cause its summer or whatever.. just dimm the fucker down to 400 from 600 or etc. its great. honestly lumatek is like neon bluish/ purple.. it looks blue in some lightings and totally purple in others loil.. it may not be a lamp youde be really proud to own if ur a dude.. the galaxys are a very nice green anodized aluminum.. the lamps are similar in nature but ones got a nicer bigger knob in front.(galaxy) and is green not purple.. they both have heat sinks and are quiet though.. my growshop which i go to and like. sais galaxys fail less then lumateks.. then agian it could be a close call.. ide like to know the failure rate between Electronic ballasts and magnetic
