Lucy and the search for CBD; First Grow, wild times fun times ;)

I wasn't going to start this until beginning flower but since the plants are having minor issues and it's my day off I figured it would be fun to share. Also I haven't seen a finished grow journal of this strain yet. The goal is to get some CBD weed growing and probably cloning. It's hard to trust most of the shops around here with CBD and I'm not going to test their 1/8ths for them...

We're at 1 month of growth from seed today.

I'm growing "Lucy" from Reserva Privada Colorado(LA Confidential x Luca Brasi[Corleone Kush x Pre98 Bubba]) which is based off a CBD rich pre98 pheno mostly and the proven medicine that LA Con is(so I hear anyways). It's a good name too 8*) I'm growing in soil. Roots 707 organic following a simple guide on that soil. Also using Smart Pots and a 600w Eye Hortilux HPS for the 7 plants. 2 plants are bagseed of some super smelly and tasty pine cone weed this guy grew. They are the smallest plant in the pictures.

It's been fairly interesting so far. Lucy had meager looking seeds to start with. I drowned 1 seed. Another idk why it didn't grow out of the soil. I had 3 twin plants sprout but all the twins had 1 runt and 1 bigger plant. All the twin plants grew slower at first. Runt twins suck! Tried to let one grow out like that but the small one was going to die so I cut it. I had one plant stop growing for over a week after it's leaves angled 45 degrees instead of 90 so I snipped it and let its runt twin grow out. It's the bottom right plant and is growing really well now minus the extremely week lower stem. The uppermost big plant in the pictures had a twin, grew extremely slow until I cut the runt twin and now it is the biggest and most luscious plant out of the bunch. It's an obvious LA Con based pheno.

I overwatered at week 2 or 3 and got some chlorosis on the bottom leaves and stunted all their growth. The most vigorous one is still recovering darnit(the upper right plant in pics). I can tell when i watered it last cuz it drooped longer. Once I transplanted it fixed the issue and they had almost no transplant shock. Sweeeet! Now they're starting to grow good this last week. finally! yay!!

My upperleft bagseed seedling is turning lime green while the other is perfectly fine, IDK why? I also have really minor leaf curl on all of the big plants except the one directly under the light!. The left big one is getting it slightly worse. I took a close up picture. The only thing I can think of that I changed is I let the fan oscillate pretty close up all day yesterday and perhaps made them transpire to hard. So I put the fan back where it was.

Temps stay at 76-80, 68 at night. RH a solid 24-30%. PH 6.5. I decided to lightly foliar feed today to fix whatever made the leaves curl. and to get a tiny bit of nitrogen directly on the yellow seedling. Can't hurt I don't think. Been using CalMag 2-0-0 at 1/2 strength or less every other watering. And some root stimulant stuff early on 1-1-1 1/4 strength too. Here's the pics, advice is very very welcome and appreciated! :)

Leaves curled slightly more today, on the center plant barely too. Even with the light still at 22" approx after the last week or so of not moving it.

FIgured it out.... heh heat stress of course, simple, I kinda figured. Apparently I hadn't measured ambient temperatures very well and some spots were hitting 90+ in the pots :fire:. Kind of a mircale I've got this far like that. Got it down at least 5 degrees in the hottest spots for now. Hopefully I can lower it a bit more soon and get this veg going faster. To be continued...

A little update on the now hopeful girls. In 10 days leaf mass has quadrupled and height is up over double at about 11" the highest plants. Just giving em water mostly, one small dose of less then 1/4 strength nutes is all so far since the transplant a couple weeks ago. Saw some clawing on the smallest big one so just went straight back to water. That plant has issues though, it was the biggest at first but I could never figure out how to revive it's vigor. Probably watered too much too soon after overwatering early. Speaking of, all but killed the "Pine Cone" seedlings, so small, one is growing though. Still going to leave them with the bunch and flower em anyways. Maybe I'll get a male and make some cross seeds for fun hehe. Feel like I figured it out finally though. I'll add a 1/4 dose cal mag once or twice before flower, as the guide I'm following says to. Seems like as soon as the roots start to blow up in these smart pots then so do the plants, cool stuff. Hoping to LST once at around 15-18" in height on 1/15/15 as long as the now fat stems will let me. Then I'll flower soon after. Guess I'll find out if I waited to long or not. This bud is an La Confidential cross and I just figured out that so is one of my favorite smokes, Cataract Kush. Looking forward to growing these out so much now even more! Here's some pictures.

Kinda crazy looking at those pics after these plants have once again doubled in size. Lots of side branches trying to get big now. They would be so much bigger if I had not tried to LST them. Tried 4 of em, only 1 really responded proper, I left two tied down, they look like the same pheno and responded the best. These plants veg so slow they're just like, WTH, why are you tying me down. Best thing to do would've probably been to just let them do their thing, as is the case with Bubba crosses alot of the time. Then I broke the top off the one that responded best. ...whoops! It didn't even seem shocked at all, just carried on growing out it's side branches/tops. I should've started LST earlier or did Scrog with em. I put them into flower tonight out of gut feeling and I kinda wanted to start today in the first place. We'll see what happens. A half z per plant would be nice at the least. I will post pics when the pistols shoot out.

Hey Fease !
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I see you've just put your gals into flowering. Post some pics if you can. I wonder what they look like these days :). What is your overall experience with LST ? Have you ever tried monster cropping?

A little update of pictures, 3 are showing pistils and flower sites, 2 are not really, the small sativa looking one is whatever. Hopefully the other 2 decide to catch up. I made some slight alterations in light and airflow and am doing plain-plain water for the waterings this week. They like it alot!

Hey power. Monster cropping does look interesting and awesome but I've heard of issues. Would prefer to find a quicker version of topping/lst/ect that works with these slow vegging plants. I think I might be on to something with the one broke plant. Could call it reverse mainlining or something :P I will certainly be trying it more with my next crop.

Got some mites and maybe white flies. Put in a no pest strip for three days now all sealed up with Cfl running no fans. Going to pull them soon. I figure the poison won't get into the buds much as they have 5+ weeks to go. And this stuff never tests in samples. Started with a peroxide soap spray. Going to make a habanero spray too. Hopefully repeated trifecta uses will kill them all. I think I caught them fairly early. Will post pics in the pretty cfl light once I go back in the grow room.

Day 24 Flower:

Used the Habanero spray with no ill effects on the plants(and hopefully death to borg!) although one looks very sad still. Perhaps it's/was the most infested with mites. Going to spray again tomorrow and then move to 3 day intervals for the next two weeks. The rest of the plants look happy as shit and the buds doubled in size with 4 100watt cfls vs the 600w HPS running. I think I'm going to combine the two and leave it like that tomorrow. Ended up basically defoliating one plant(pre98 bubba pheno) so we'll see how that goes ... The one plant I let grow just naturally with no interference at any point has the biggest buds on the most sites on it. The LST/top break plant has lots of bud sites but somewhat smaller buds. The branches didn't really have time to mature on that accidental experiment but the biggest budded one grew all the way up from the very very bottom. I still like it and will try it again earlier in veg next time vs. the beginning of flower like this time. The regular LSTd plant is the sad one. The one pine cone Sativa over doubled in size and ain't too shabby. Here's some promised pictures.

God damnit, those pictures are so beautiful. I screwed up big time. Lesson learned. If you spray your plants with some intense shit, even just pepper spray or lemon acid soap(bronners) spray, wash them the fuck off afterwards. Almost all my leaves are canooed and curled upwards and dying on the ends. I sprayed the hell out of them with plain water and it didn't even help, too late. I can only wait now and hope some of the larger fans stay strong and survive. The buds have grown ever so slightly despite the fact but I'm really wondering whether they will even survive. They will, but seriously, I'm sad. My first grow, it's like a big experiment anyways and I've learned a shit load. Like how the mites were less of a concern then human error. I suppose I'll take a picture of the damage and post their sadness. So fucking sad. I love these plants.

Well this is the 2nd to last post for this journal. Harvested 10days ago, couldn't let them go any longer. Got a few buds, a little over quarter I think. Going to turn some larf into a tincture and the rest I'll smoke :) It's not bad, has some potency and a nice relaxing stone while not taking much to get me there. Kind of a mostly piney earthy slightly sweet mild kush smell. Not quite done curing of course. I will be starting a new journal with the same strain, already got em popped and growing. Going to make it a Journal(s) type of thread. Also growing two pine cone sativas seeds I have. Hoping for a male and to breed the two together. Also got some seeds that might be viable out of this grow after I shocked them hard into turning so looking forward to trying those out at some point too and seeing what happens. Here's the last pictures:
